UNC just landed two 4 star recruits (one of which chose UNC over Bama) and appears to have the #2 recruiting class in the country.

Good thing football isn't going to be played for the foreseeable future (especially college football with unpaid athletes.)

Kinda surprised to see us so low on this list:

https://twitter.com/BlairRIVALS/status/1257392610106359808?s=20

I was thinking most of the blue bloods would be the lowest down (most attractive, less desperate) but that doesn't appear to always be the case

I for one am shocked that a 5* player from NC would pick a school that is a perennial title contender and only like 2 hours from home.

^Not surprised at all, just hope our fans don't freak out on social media when he picks Clemson today. From everything I've read this has been a forgone conclusion for over a month now.

I hope more do, tbh, because we're currently getting mopped up in state by Mack Brown

^Mack is literally doing the same thing Doeren did in 2017-2018, except he's doing it in 2020-2021. Biggest problem is that of all 4 of those classes, 2021 is certainly considered the best of the classes.

In 2018 we landed the #25 player in NC, per 247, in Devin Carter. Carter had offers from: Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wake.

In 2021 you have the #25 player in NC, per 247, as Diego Pounds. Pounds has offers from: LSU, Bama, Penn State, Florida, Auburn, Michigan.

We just picked a really, really bad year to have 4-wins.

Doeren badly needs Pounds, McNeil, etc. to commit and soon. Seems like we have 0 momentum.

^Think our next chance at a commitment will be a TE or Poole(LB).

McNeil apparently was set to announce his top 10 and then backed off and is waiting, so I don't think he is anywhere close to committing.

^^^Yeah, that was the point. The 2021 class is LOADED with talent and deeper than the classes we dominated in-state. This means UNC is likely to crush us with landing the top guys in NC this year, but the class is deep enough that as long as we can still get some of the guys we want that we should still have a nice class.

Example, Diego Pounds being #25 is a joke considering his offer list. Not saying we land him, just saying, I'd take a kid like that any season over some of the higher ranked kids that don't have nearly the same level of offers.

Got the Auburn qb HS recruit who one time verbally committed to Auburn.

Good news is if there is no college football this year, then this guy can be our next QB!

I guess reports of our death in recruiting have been greatly exaggerated.

Hopefully he's been taking to Crowell who I think is recruiting soon-ish.

Lets not go sucking each other's popsicles just yet. Considering we currently have 0 commits from any of the top 30 in-state players in 2021, we need a lot of good news for this to be considered any sort of successful class.

UNC-CH has basically locked up the in-state recruiting for 2021.

McLaughlin is a really big land. Great athletic profile - if he pans out, he's going to be really good.

Now if our team in 3 years is McLaughlin and nothing else (especially if we just throw up our hands at the QB position otherwise and pray he's good), then yeah we're in trouble. But there's still plenty of time to find good players. CFB recruiting isnt the same as CBB recruiting, although obviously the LSU, Alabamas, Clemsons etc will be the best

I don’t think we’ll throw our hands up and quit recruiting other QBs. We recruited and landed others even after landing Leary (and before he stepped on campus). Seems like the staff has made a point to have multiple options at QB on the roster. So I’m not too worried about them being complacent.

I think the best part about landing a big-time QB is that he is going to help recruit. He's already been talking to a 4* WR(Crowell) and one of our top OL prospects(Pounds). I imagine he's going to be helping recruit a lot of the top guys on our board.

UNC is definitely having a huge year with in-state recruiting, but nothing we were really going to do about that after the year and staff turnover we just had.

Still have a good shot at landing Mugharbil, McNeil, Price, Poole, Crowell, and Pounds. Would give us a pretty good in-state haul.

^Think Poole, McNeil, and Pounds are "must haves". Crowell would definitely help get us some momentum going, think he's committing in early June.

Pounds was probably a lock to State until he blew up and got those big SEC offers(Bama, LSU, UF, etc).

Lol smh it's a 247 if the shortened link scared you off
https://247sports.com/Article/college-football-decommitments-commitments-fall-recruiting--146856393/

But basically covid, a compounding effect of less visibility and relationships, schools maybe offering/pushing for commits for otherwise fringe recruits, therefore getting more commits therefore making recruits worry classes will feel up and committing.

Every expert/analyst is predicting a massive decommitment wave once players can take visits. You literally have kids committed that never visited a school other than virtually.

^^I'm not going to bother reading the article, but there are plenty of reasons.
1. No camps, no visits, recruiting gets stale.
2. They extended the dead period so these kids are getting a TON of texts, DMs, etc.
3. Teams like UT are pressuring kids to commit before their spot is "taken".
4. A lot of kids want to make sure they have a spot locked down with a lot of uncertainty about HS football, college football, recruiting, etc.

I mean if you look at some of the recent kids that committed to UT, it's pretty obvious they should be considered "soft" verbals. Hell the TE we wanted that picked them said he was still taking all 5 of his visits once he was allowed to.

Will be interesting to see if guys like Dabo, Doeren, etc relax on their "no visit" policy with their current commits.

Got another, apparently South Carolina's #1 OL

Quote :
"NC State has landed a commitment from Chapin (S.C.) offensive lineman Thornton Gentry.

Gentry's the second offensive lineman to commit to the Wolfpack this week, joining Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond Senior tackle Jaleel Davis.

He's a three-star prospect, No. 9 center in the country and fifth-ranked player in South Carolina according to 247Sports."

Micah Crowell, 4* WR announces Tuesday...I think the opinion is he chooses NC State. But...who knows. If we could somehow land him, Mugharbil, Hattley and Poole and then round the class out with some other dudes we want like Pounds, Price, etc....this would actually quietly be a very good class
