Customer comes in, '04 Range Rover (BMW 4.4 V8) with 87k. Purchased at 69k and NEVER CHANGED THE OIL AT ALL DURING THAT TIME. Oil looks HORRRIBLE, hershey's surprise is a good name for it. Filter had degraded to nothing, bypass valve in filter housing was stuck for god knows how long. Changed oil and filter and advised customer of almost certian future engine problems. Car returns following Monday morning, now leaking from valve cover. Naturally both covers, both oil breather hoses and the weird oil seperator are totally gunked up, the pressure has to go somewhere. Pics coming soon- dont worry they are gonna be worth the wait.

I had a customer that had gone 40,000 miles on one oil change in a Mack truck. The oil looked like pudding. I tried to explain the price difference between the occasional oil change and a complete tear down and rebuild to no avail. Some people indeed.

haha

this stupid hooker that works at the same hospital as baby's mama bought a fairly new accord v6 coupe. she hasn't changed the oil in the 30-40k miles she's owned it.

it's also about to get repossessed, because she continually buys shit she can't even come CLOSE to affording. I mean, like, I probably make about triple her income, and she spends more money than I do.

it will be the 2nd car she's had repossessed...and she's lived in at least 3 different places in the last year, because she keeps dropping the ball on paying rent.

she's 23 years old (i think), has 2 kids (including one she had at 14) by 2 different dads, one of whom is in prison...recently got pregnant a 3rd time by another guy but ended up miscarrying.

i can't say much, i've definitely pushed 15-20k between changes before.

i had a pontiac vibe (toyota) come in to thompson one time with a rod knock. pulled the plug, and got about 1/2 a quart out. asked the guy when he had last changed the oil, and he said never... that he thought it was good until the warranty ran out. it had 36k on it. he was irate that he had to pay for a new motor.

hooooollly shit. you would think people that could afford to buy a range rover (even an old one) would have more sense than that.

btw. how was it even still running when he first came in?

driving a rover =/= having money
having money =/= knowing shit about changing oil

[Edited on January 31, 2008 at 7:29 PM. Reason : changing oil = drunk diving a fox body though, or so i hear ]

^^ CORRECT. As a matter of fact, this particular truck is a company vehicle. When the bossman heard that it may need a new 12 thousand dollar engine, he came in immediately to check it out. Suffice it to say, he is PISSED that the employee who's car payment and maintenance expenses are taken care of neglected this vehicle to this extent.

Bossman came by today and said that this guy would be without a vehicle for a good while since this one is getting sold ASAP. Assuming it runs long enough to get it home... I put it back together tomorrow.

Its amazing what the M62 will put up with. I had one just like that.........but the history showed oil changes every 15,000 miles. Just another reason not to listen to BMW's stupid oil change intervals. I've had a few oil filters actually crystallize themselves.........weird crap.

Looks like their best bet is to throw a dart at a calendar...........as to when that thing will poop itself (more so than whats in the pics).

That's so awesome... I saw a jeep (old straight 6) like this back when I was working at Good Year. Good times. Seeing cars like this always made my day, pretty amusing.

put all the hoses and valve gasket back on.
put the plug back onto the drain hole.
our diesel fuel into the crankcase until that shit comes up to the oil cap.
close the cap.
let it sit overnight.
drain the diesel fuel.
do two oil changes, letting the car idle for a few minutes inbetween.
do another oil change and let that bitch roll.
$profit

One of my best friend's girlfriends up here was riding with me in my car the other day. For some reason oil changes came up and she told me that she ruined the engine in her first car b/c she didn't know she had to change the oil, like ever.

She said nobody ever explained to her that changing oil is something you do periodically. I usually tear into people like this, but shes my boy's girl, so I refrained.

But holy fuck.

I know a girl who did this twice by the time she was 18 years old. Parents bought her a decent used Accord when she was 16. She never changed the oil, so about a year later the pistons crapped out of the exhaust.

Her parents paid to have a brand new engine put in the car and she did it again. I don't remember what happened that time. I think she was being a total screw up (dropped out of school, living with random dudes who would take her in, etc.) and her parents finally gave her some tough love.

My sister in-law jsut did this on her Chevy aveo, 15,000 miles she did no oil change, had the original facotry oil, never checked the tire pressure....

and complained she could not afford the $13 worth of oil and filter my wife put in it...

and wonders why it won't pass inspection (riding around with 13lbs of air inteh tires wears then quick!)
