We're building a horseshoe pit in our backyard and have everything except sand. The bags of playground sand at lowes and home depot would end up costing around $150 for the amount we'd need. I know there has to be a cheaper place to buy sand... nothing fancy, just construction grade sand. Thanks for the help.

If you look at time, effort, and fuel expenditure, just buying the sand for $150 locally is probably relatively cheaper than a trip to the beach. Also, I'm not sure that's legal.

I think in response to either story the grandchildren would roll their eyes and continue playing on their Gamboy Psychics.

beach sand sucks for this. it's going to rust/eat away your poles and shoes. not to mention it sticks to everything.

call any of the local quarry/stone places, they'll have what you need. i'm not sure if they'll deliver anything less than half a dump truck (which is probably way more than you need). not necessarily a bad thing though, my parents used to keep an extra pile in back around covered with a tarp for refreshing our sandbox, swing set area, and my dad's horseshoe pit. there are lots of trees and the spaces would eventually get pine needles, leaves, and other crap mixed in making them not look as nice. or, you can go to the places yourself for a smaller quantity if you've got a way to haul it.

$150 dollars, how much sand do you need?!?

My pits only took around 15 bags to fill, that's half your estimate.
