The wall of punching demons that the WD summons is pretty awesome looking.

A couple of differences strike me between the Witch Doctor and the necromancer. The Witch Doctor appears to be able to summon his minions without dead bodies. This is a welcome change since if you were a Necro summoner, it was a pain in the ass to kill a baddie so that you could summon your minions.

The Necro Corpse Explode seems replaced by the ability to blow up your own minions, which may be a more manageable attack since (once again) you don't have to depend on things being dead in order to succeed.

My guess is that they will be pretty much the same class, you just don't have to depend on things being dead. So, that would give the class much more utility.

paladin and proud.

played the summer of 2000 and in two weeks caught up to the levels of my friends who had already had D2 for over a month. it was amazing. i played for 20 hours a day and then would sleep/eat/shower/shit for the other 4. i couldn't believe myself.

then in college during 2002 i got back into it with a roommate of mine during the summer. the same thing repeated.

I honestly just can't understand how people can play Diablo so much.

I thought it was fun to play the game through on SP, then I did a little LAN MP with friends, but I don't understand how people can keep playing it for hundreds of hours, just trying to find a Super Epic Sword of Awesomeness +50 to replace their Mildly Epic Sword of Awesomeness + 48.

^ ever heard of WoW?

People don't raid for 10+ hours in one dungeon just for the social aspect

It's almost like gambling. You don't go on a Bael run or a Mephisto run for the exp, you do it for the possibility of a good item dropping that will allow you to run again and kill him slightly quicker

^^well it used to last longer back in those days. and while I agree it did eventually get extremely repetitive (exactly why I quit) it was certainly fun raiding for a lot longer than MC. Each dungeon they put out for awhile felt like an entirely new game with the encounters getting better and better. AQ40 and Naxx were amazing from a raid point of view. For some reason the outlands stuff just never sat quite right with me. I usually chalk it up to repetitiveness or the fact that 90% of the people I had played with for like 4 years had quit.

Not sure how long ago this was updated, but the third class is out: wizard.
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/characters/wizard.xml

Nothing surprising here, except that they highly emphasize that this is a Wizard and NOT a Sorcerer. Probably affects the backstory more than actual gameplay.

They have a few videos of the spells. They look awesome. Looks like they also added a landing "lag" for teleport, probably to balance things out a bit more. This could cause a lot of angsty complaints.

Starcraft 2 thread should be bumped as well, some pretty significant news out of Blizzcon for that game too.

Please, even before WoW Blizzard took it's time releasing games. And they can, because you'll fucking buy it knowing it's a quality game from the best developer in the business. I happen to like a development firm that releases software when they're ready to, not when the publisher tells them it needs to be ready. Be patient. DiabloIII will fucking rock.

Hadn't really looked at screenshots for it until that last link... Yeah.. I see they have gone for the WoW look. That's a bit dissappointing, since I always thought of the Diablo world as more mature and gritty.

Holy shit, welcome to the conversation. See the screenshot above? That was the Diablo art departments response to this exact sentiment from fans. I agree with the art department on this one.

http://computergames.ro/external/?url=http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/07/31/diablo-iii-designer-talks-colors/&lang=en

Quote :
"But fans take note: The decision to add color to the macabre world of “Diablo” didn’t come lightly. “It’s actually the thing we struggled with the most,” Wilson said. When Wilson joined the project two and-a-half years ago, the game was similar-looking to what fans of the old games might expect — darker, desaturated and a lot of brown and gray tones. However, translating the game from 2D to 3D with a dark color palette didn’t make for the best gameplay experience. The first and second iterations of the art direction had a “modern, gritty look” but made it difficult to distinguish enemies from the environment. “When you have 30 creatures on screen — and four or five different types — target prioritization is a factor,” he said. “You need to be able to tell those things apart fast, and you can’t do that when your world is gray and your creatures are gray.”
After much debate within the team itself, they finally agreed on the third, more colorful (and “final-ish”) rendition we see today."

the only reason they do it is to drag out as long as possible subscription fees on wow so they make more money.

Also, blizzard has probably the worst customer service i've ever seen in my entire life.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, that explains why they've always taken their time to release games, even years before wow was released.

Based on WoW experience...

They take an unearthly amount of time to respond to e-mails if ever. usually its just an automated e-mail with useless information and if they DO get back to me, its their usual "fuck you, youre SOL" email.

In-Game, they refuse to help with problems that deserve help. They will not switch an item that got accidently incorrectly distributed. They will not help with clear quest bugs in game (I reported the same buggy quest to 5 GM's over the course of a year, and it was never fixed, never forwarded to the dev team).

Everytime you try to contact them with a problem, all you hear is "Thank you for contacting us, we apologize for the inconvenience, but we cannot currently help you with (insert problem here). We continue to appreciate your continued interest in the game."

Pretty much anyone who isn't a little kissass blizzard groupie would agree with me.

I'm interested to hear other people's opinion on this. My only direct experiences with Blizzards personnel:

1)There was a billing problem when I deactivated my account. Called their billing department, they were pleasant and quickly fixed my problem. (which resulted in them getting less money from me, btw).

2)There was a billing problem when I reactivated my account. Called their billing department, they were pleasant and quickly fixed my problem.

3)I didn't fully understand the recruit-a-friend rewards program. Posted to the forums, got a quick response from a blue poster referencing my specific account, not just some boilerplate response.

So all in all my experience with their customer service has been positive. Also, on their official forums I see many many posts where people get their mislooting corrected and very few where they are denied. I'd like to hear about that quest bug. Which quest are you talking about?

I too have only had positive experiences with Blizzard support. They were all WoW related and I've only ever had a couple of situations where I needed to get support:
1- I was unable to put a BoE item in the gbank, acted like it was bound to me. Emailed blizzard and in two days I had brand new items in the mail.
2- Billing issue where I ended up getting a few days, maybe a week's worth of free time.

ANYWAY I am super pumped for diablo 3.

^^ i havent played for several months (before WotLK came out) They must have changed their policies because before they would not, under any circumstance, change out mislooted items.

The quest was an old school EPL quest where you had to kill a band of dwarves outside a tomb to get taelan's hammer. Everytime i did it, i would kill the guy and the bodies would disappear. Everytime i petitioned i got the same response "thank you for the report, we will forward this to the bug team". Everytime i started a new char and brought him through the quest, the same bug happened, over like a 2 year course.

Admins have been able to help me w/ most reasonable requests. Its not the best service, but I don't think it needs to be. That they even replace misplaced items is going well beyond whats neccesary.

^it worked for me by looting as soon as i killed him

I'm fairly certain you are completely full of crap. Mislooted items have been redistributed as far back as when Molten Core was the top tier instance. Both the person who got the item and the person who should have gotten the item need to put in a petition though.

We recently had a case where some GM fat fingered it and said they fixed the problem but failed to transfer loot. A second petition fixed this problem.

Done the quest like 5 times without issues. I suspect you were doing something wrong. GMs won't tell you how to do a quest if you are obviously wrong, though. They tell you to figure it out.

Why did a Diablo 3 thread become a thread about how terrible WoW's customer support is? 12 million people play that game, of course the customer support is fucking awful. The GMs all follow a pre-written script, just like customer support for any other large service.

k dumbass, why the hell would i lie about something like this. It's happened multiple times to multiple people i've known. The GM said, they cannot reassign an item that has already been looted and are "sorry for the inconvenience". It was a huge issue that happened in a guild I was in over a couple mislooted items during a Hyjal raid.

As far as the quest, the GM sat there and WATCHED ME DO THE QUEST. He even said that yes, it is a KNOWN BUG and he will report it to the proper people.

Try to be a little more open minded before trying to talk shit next time.

i dont see why delaying diablo 3 would help WOW. they are very different games and probably do not draw in the same crowd (some overlap for sure, but not fully).

that said, be happy you never played EQ if you wanna bitch about WOW issues. server transfers ...how nice of them (i called for EQ early in the game and said id pay and they still refused). actually responding to you...how nice of them. fixing loot issues...mighty fine of them. broken quests or quests that you can actually tell how to do?
