Oh snap. Found a ring from the set that summons a skeleton when you attack. Sold it for $80 paypal cash money. All it took was 3 months and 150+ hours of playing a game that isn't all that fun.

as much as i agree with many of the complains, you can't really whine all that much about CHOOSING to play a game for 150 hours and not having that much fun. doubly true when it PAYS FOR ITSELF and MAKES YOU MONEY after doing all of it.

just quit if you arent having fun. if you want to make money, go to work. i got about 100 hours out of it and made about 20-25 bucks of my money back. that's not a terrible investment.

I think your point is valid for most games, however there are certain games that you just expect more from so I think you give it a longer chance than you'd normally.

I kept playing Diablo thinking it will get better, next patch, PvP coming... etc. So I wanted to stick it out, mostly for loyalty to the franchise because the past games have been a blast.

Would I have quit 100 hours sooner with another game? Yes. But I wanted this game to be one that played for a long time so I think I ignored the flaws and tried every way to make it fun, but it just isn't.

I'm not mad I bought the game, I got my money's worth out of it for sure. But that doesn't mean you can't be pissed that it is a steaming pile of dogshit when compared to previous Diablo games.

I think this is a giant pile of rose colored glasses syndrome here. Can you actually point out 2-3 things that were better or done better in D2 than D3.

1. Multiplayer (enough said)
2. Certain loot only drops from specific monsters, and certain monsters have a higher chance to drop certain loot (Countess = Runes). All monsters having the same spread of ilvl drops in an act is so lazy.
3. No stupid cut-scenes every time I go to fight a boss. No stupid cut-scenes in the middle of a boss fight. Seriously, I can't be the only person who is really pissed off with the break in action here.
4. The ability to go to any act at any time once you beat the game so you could cherry-pick zones as opposed to being forced down one act farming at a time.
5. Being able to create named games to better group with people that are doing what you want to (boss farming, XP grinding, ETC).
6. Plot. Man D3's plot is just terrible.

There's 5 specific things done better by D2 (without creating another giant post).
I don't agree that the game as a whole is terrible like some other people, but it removed a lot of D2's features, most likely due to force it out the door. I'd say 2, 4, and 5 fall into that category.

i've said it before itt before, so i won't dwell on it, but the skills system is what really screws this game up in my eyes. I can't get past the fact that every character plays out exactly the same. the character development system in d2 is what made it so awesome.

a lot of people try to defend d3's skill system by saying, "well, d2 only gave the illusion of choice, because if you didn't spend your points properly, you were screwed in the end." this may be true for hardcore gamers who are insistent on making their character as good as it could possibly be. but, for the vast majority of players playing casually, you could still advance pretty far spending your points how you wished. you also had a good excuse to reroll and try something totally different if you didn't like how things were turning out.

as it stands now, there is ZERO reason to play any character twice. they couldn't even give you 5 attribute points to spend each level, which is a hallmark of the series. i was as excited about this game as anyone, but that is totally lame.

Well that's vague and useless for an argument

This is debatable. At least i can seem something different then Pend for the 20th time in an hour looking for an upgrade

I wouldn't consider them cut-scenes but I do get what you are talking about. I wish there was an auto-skip option to save me the 5 seconds of hitting escape-skip but its not gaming breaking
Quote :

You can still do that, it just may not be the most effective way to farm in the world. I'd say the back half of act 3 (start at siege breaker and going though azm) gets you a good farming location while skipping the questy parts of the act. This would also seem to be counter to your #2 which stated you needed to power farm the same mob over and over for a drop instead of doing anything

Quote :
"5. Being able to create named games to better group with people that are doing what you want to (boss farming, XP grinding, ETC)."

Maybe its just that i group with friends list people but i dont find a big difference between this in D2 and D3. And you can start a public game on Prime evils - Diablo Fight just as easy so you could make "hellDiablow#45433"

Quote :
"6. Plot. Man D3's plot is just terrible."

meh. i'll give you that.

I'd also like to toss out that stuff like runes/rune words weren't added to D2 until LoD.

I'll give you 3 and 6 though i guess.

If I had to guess what will happen, I'd say Diablo will follow the following timeline:

1. Legendary / Paragon / Talent revision (already happened). Hope a large portion of fanbase comes back long-term. Limited success.

2. Fast track PvP patch. Already stated that there will be very little balancing (if any). Hope this brings more players back. Unlikely.

3. Work on end game content that they promised for people who want to do more than grind. Half-ass it.

(Or option B): When content takes too long to release, bundle it in with the expansion and try to fast-track. Release months before its ready with limited features (much like the original release). People will come back for this, but drop off just as quick as with the patches.

Seriously? You mean the post where I said I'm not mad I bought the game, or that I got time out of playing it just unhappy at what it turned out to be? Just because I used the word "shit" doesn't mean I'm grumpy.

My feeling is the same that a LOT of people feel. It isn't so far as comparing D2 to D3, it is the fact that 10 years in development you scratch your head on this being the final product. It just didn't seem like it was that complicated to build on D1/D2. I think that is what made the first two games great and an easy franchise to build on because at the core it is a simple game. Click click click, loot loot loot. You can play it casual or play it hardcore. It appealed to a wide range. Just the fact that it took them this long to patch legendary items shows how far off the original release was from what people actually wanted/hoped for.

Well, if you are an achievement whore, there is...

But besides that, I agree. I won't be going after this achievement...

Lvl 60. 26,5k dps. 28.3k life. Starting Act 2 on Inferno.

UuUUGGHHHH

I'm messing around with several builds, trying to find something that will help me increase my DPS. I think I might have a few that will work, but I don't have access to any of my information right now. Maybe when I get home in about 3 hours, I'll post it up and see what advice you guys have to offer... My 2 hand bow ain't bad (Archer's Fervor 868.8 DPS) It's not top shelf. I haven't found anything worth while to replace it or my quiver yet (Glorious Runic Quiver). Auction house items are too expensive, and I've got ~100k gold.

Running Steady Aim, vengeance, and sharpshooter. I'm thinking about trading sharpshooter out for something else.

Hungering Arrow + Scatter Shot (thinking of replacing with Devouring Arrow)
Elemental Arrow + Ball Lightening.
Smoke Screen +displacement
Vault + Trail of Cinders (which practically kills me when I encounter an enemy with reflect damage, but helps me out a TON with most elite packs)
Impale + Chemical Burn
Prepartion + Battle Scars

I find myself running away a lot. hence why I use Vault, smoke screen, and prepartion. I don't get 1 hit K.O. anymore, but usually 1 hit knocks me down far enough that I can't get hit again.

I really love Elemental arrow + Ball Lightening for crowd control, but it seems redundant with Hungering arrow. I'm thinking about getting rid of Elemental arrow, replacing it with Impale + Chemical burn and then picking up Grim reaper or Valley of Death for even better crowd control). Hungering Arrow for crowd control, Impale for the Elites themselves.

30 min up

Scattershot/Hungering arrow actually seem pretty anemic for crowd control... Ball Lightening does this very, very well. :/

I've got 1.72 APS with my current setup...

I also should get rid of that Radiant Square Ruby Rune from my bow and replace it with an equivalent Emerald.

I've gotten a couple 45k hits with devouring arrow. This combo is working out pretty damn well... But Act II on inferno is no joke. My Templar has died about a dozen times already. lol. I've died 7 times, trying to do that timed event on to have 30+ enemies +12 elites chasing me into a corner... fml.

Don't use the templar, use the Scoundrel for the skill that gives crit bonus and slows enemies. Much better.

Stick with SS, Archery, and Steady Aim, but if you find you are dying a lot switch out Steady Aim for tactical advantage to help survive better.

As far as your build goes, I'd suggest switching to :
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#fPXSgd!ZTe!bYZZbc

What I used and seemed to work the best. You don't need 2 hatred spenders. And evasive fire works great, especially for Act 2.

You need more dex and a better bow and quiver.

is there a reason you use battle scars over back up plan ?

back up plan lets you acctually kill RD packs before you die of old age.

also did you just screenshot and paste that ? or is there a character profile link I'm missing somehow ?

Battle scars have helped me replenish life at the last "oh shit" moment a few times. I'm not an expert micromanager (definitely not as good as I was when I was a big gamer 10 years ago).

How does a WD Spirit Vessel work in hardcore? Will this pop me to 15% HP if I am supposed to die (assuming its not on CD). Not that I'm going to rely on this, but its worth taking up a slot if it does give me a second chance, so to speak.

First set of patch notes are out. The non-class changes look interesting.
In terms of classes, they have nerfed survival skills (albeit with promises of making inferno easier, excluding monster power). Their changes to other skills are just . . . what is this, I don't even...

Barbarian:
-Nerfed Run Like the Wind coefficient. Should have done that last patch, so no surprises here.
-Quadrupled Battle Rage duration. Wat?
-Tons of buffs to seldom used skills. Because Barbs need to be moar powerful.

Demon Hunter:
-Tons of skills reworked to be more lucrative to pick.
-Tons of buffs to seldom used skills. Because DHs need to be moar powerful.

Wizard:
-Tons of buffs to seldom used skills (aside from the aforementioned survival nerfs all around). Because Wizards need to be moar powerful.

WD:
-Compared to Bar/DH/Wiz, hardly any changes at all. Should have just been ignored from the patch notes (or removed from game if they continue with this path).

Monk:
-Compared to Bar/DH/Wiz, hardly any changes at all.
-Minor buff to 1-2 skills.
-50% nerf for Dex to Armor skill. Because Monks are too powerful?

Wizard buffs look mostly useless. Magic Missile is still outclassed by all the other sig skills (maybe weirdo kite people still use seekers) Ray of Frost should be a sig spell - the AOE change might be useful in the retarded CM build.

They are slowly getting the game to the point it should have been in May. Its great, but it sucks that its taken this long.

And they still have the main big problem that they are treating like an elephant in the room; itemization.

Got bored this morning and decided to regear my DH with the 8mil I had leftover after selling off my stuff.

Basically was able to get back to essentially the same 150k buffed damage, just without the frills legacy nats set offers with that 8 mil. Was def a good call to sell my stuff when I did with prices for everything diving, I doubt I'll play much it was still boring when logging in.

this thread only depresses me

considering the staying power d2 had, it sucks this game fell to the wayside so quickly. i enjoyed this the first couple of playthroughs but i doubt i'll get any of the expansions, barring major changes.

does the paragon stuff make the endgame more entertaining?

It at least gives you a progress bar while doing endless farming runs. This was a features sorely missing from release, but ultimately doesn't give you any more entertainment. Just . . . a sense of progress and purpose.

I am playing this a good bit lately. The paragon levels are nice and give you a goal to slowly work towards.

The monster power level system really gives you control over your risk/reward.

Plus its quite fast to power level characters now so building up other classes is also fun.

I just started back playing over the weekend, and man they FIXED the game. You can now actually PLAY the game and not feel stuck. I beat Inferno Diablo already and it feels great to be able to farm in Act II and III. They added a few new Shrines - a nice touch. I recommend playing if you left because the game was not balanced enough to enjoy it. I am happy to report that the game in fact does now have great balance to it and the obscence difficulty is not a factor anymore.

Only way that would work is if you could put points into the skills tree like you did in D2. I would be quite happy if they made D2 remastered, I would happily pay $60 for it. This game is not D2 and when I finally got that stuck in my head the game became a much better game for what it is. I like it. Not the best, far from the worst.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Azaka-1569/hero/1444212 102k dps (without sharpshooter or steady aim, 230k with)

436% crit damage, 50% crit chance

A friend decided not to play his DH anymore and gave me all of the gear. I don't really even know what I'm doing anymore. The armory shows the build I've been using when solo'ing. Just drop 6 traps and stand there and try not to die (the bola shot stun helps that). The traps crit for 400k and there are 18 total hits with echoing blast, so I can drop most elites at MP5 in one or two round of traps, MP6 takes 4 or 5 rounds usually.

Key farming was fun the first few times, but now it's getting old. I don't know how people make it to paragon 100.
