I had her cremated and that way if we ever move, we can take her with us. So I picked out another kitten from pet smart, he is really cute four white paws and a tabby"

bummer

rip nippy

background on the cat...it started showing up to my moms place(when i first started state) when it was prolly around 7 months...about 3 days later she brought her kittens...mom gave away the kittens and got her fixed

or just toss her into the trash

Are you insinuating that cats have to be old to have cancer?

"Took casper and jasper for their shots and the vet said she thought casper has lost too much weight since his last visit, so she tested him for all things he could be tested for. She thought his thyroid is over or underacting, anyway turns out he has to take medicine forever for his thyroid. The other option is to have radiation for a week at a mere cost of 2000 and he would be cured. So I was wondering if you could find out if that vet school does stuff like this and maybe could do it for less. I am not in the mood to give him this medicine 2 times a day for the rest of his life. I will, but I sure would like him to be cured instead. Thought maybe you could find something out for me. The vet said everything else was great for his age. If we were to do nothing he would waste away to nothing she said, she has had cats come in that were 3 pounds….gross! "

this is the latest cat drama...costs 1250 at the ncsu vet hospital...pretty sure shes gonna get it done there and i get to have the cat for like a week(which will be kinda cool)

Good luck with the radiation, all the cats that I knew that had it done seemed to do great afterwards (worked in a vet ER for 4 years)

so what do you think mr emce, should my mom spend 1250 on a 10 year old cat that could potentially die in 2 years anyways?

no

I t would be a different story if she had invested that money earlier by the way of pet health insurance...

but regardless of an attachment to a cat (dogs are different, OK?!), I couldn't justify spending that kind of money

yeah i actually asked her about the pet insurance thing...she was like nope and i was like "i'm pretty sure such a thing exists" and she said no one would insure it now that its sick

[Edited on July 25, 2008 at 10:03 AM. Reason : ^^yeah i asked her if my stepdad was cool with paying it cause hes the main $ource]

[Edited on July 25, 2008 at 10:03 AM. Reason : ^idk...she always gets like slick hair kinda cats...not the puffy nappy ones]

....just like any insurance
it's best if you get it before. those vet visits and treatments would cost a mere drop in the bucket

and a lot of pet insurances are rip offs (much like regular insurance, i suppose)

but yea it is really hard unless you do it right when you first get a pet. otherwise your pet will have pre-existing conditions

Problem with pet insurance is it's about $20 a month for a cat. So $240 a year. Some policies pay a little for shots, so maybe spending $220 more than without insurance. For 10 years that's $2,200, or not worth it.

When I get a dog I'll get insurance, but only because the ones I like are prone to doing things like accidentally ripping out a canine while playing, and that's expensive to replace.

there are lots of other causes for pain/suffering in animals. one of my cats had some (supposedly painful) kidney problems- had it not been caught soon enough, it would have gotten worse and worse and eventually killed her. Also, my mother had a cat that had several different problems causing her pain. When I was visiting, I found her one morning having seizures and took her to my father's clinic- turns out she had been seriously ill for a long time, and was in almost constant pain. But none of it was cancer related- just a variety of organ issues/failures.

sorry bout losing the kitteh those situations are never easy

there are plenty of healthy cats and dogs up for adoption that will be put down

i know folks get attached, but you have to learn to let go

you can save the life of a young, healthy animal for cheap, or spend $texas to extend the life of an old animal a few more years at best

but that's just me

sorry about your cat

had a hyperthyroid...it leads to death(like, "no chance" of it getting better)...either it can take some purple gooey stuff or get radiation...my mom got the radiation done and said he is doing fine now
