It is my right as a red blooded American to shit on this movie without so much as watching a trailer... because the Ghostbusters are dudes.

This movie is going to tank so hard.

And I am perfectly okay with that..

Because I will not be there to witness the botched abortion.

Agreed with that 100%. The original cast had a lot of subtle humor and worked really well together. Bill Murray was just the right amount of goofy to where he wasn't too silly and Harold Ramis perfectly balanced it out with Egon. Every time I've seen Melissa McCarthy do anything she's just been the really loud/obnoxious/rude side character that relies on slapstick humor.

I can't understand the all-female casting from a merchandising perspective. Granted most of the Ghostbusters stuff I had was mostly from the cartoon series, but the franchise definitely profited off millions of young boys like myself (though I'm sure plenty of young girls has Ghostbuster toys, like my gf). Increasing the female fanbase is probably a smart move, but how many boys are gonna want to play with a Melissa McCarthy action figure?

Just an opinion. I also believe Bill Murray suggested Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy so there's that. Of course I also read a statement that Ernie Hudson wasn't a fan of the cast.

Put Tina Fey in place of Kristen Wiig (never liked any of her material) and maybe Amy Poehler in for McCarthy. Keep the other two.

Heck I have zero interest in most movies that come out these days but I'll go see this, even with the current cast.

I'd rather see four under-the-radar female actresses take the roles instead of these four.

such as?

this is going to be a major motion picture release. the Wiig/McCarthy/Feig trio is a proven box office commodity.

you don't take a risk with under-the-radar actresses (especially comedic) on a movie of this size

I've watched some of Mike & Molly recently. It's just as terrible as almost everything I've seen McCarthy in. Has Jones been in TV/Movies before? She doesn't seem like she'd be good in film (i see that she has been in several movies I've never heard of, including 2012's Christmas in Compton)

I have no issues with Wiig and McKinnon

^^you don't take a risk if you're some piece of shit movie studio. if you want a really good movie, you take a risk. heath ledger was a huge risk when cast as the joker and look what he pulled off? he wasn't quite under-the-radar, but he certainly was when it comes to films such as batman.

and that's my point, referencing my earlier post about the environment in which these films are being released.

the reason i want under-the-radar actresses is because i want something new brought to the table. the casting of those four (terrible) actresses just means we're going to get the exact same characters they've done before.

Daisy Ridley and Tessa Thompson are two off of the top of my head I would be interested in seeing.

how many tickets would either of those sell?

and the actual risk the studio is taking is being played out on the last 2 pages of this thread

^^This is the Ghostbusters franchise. Its a franchise which people have been clamoring for revival for years. Sure, big names can help, but any marketer worth their salary could market a 'Ghostbusters' with a cast of unknowns if the movie is solid.

And that's my problem. Choosing actresses who are type-cast into specific comedy roles time and time again (love them or hate them) make me think this is less about a good movie with a plot and more of an excuse to throw four loud personalities at the screen and hope that name recognition alone (move and cast) is enough to make a profit.

you have no idea what their characters will be like, so type-casting gets thrown out of the window immediately

they are four professional comedic actors in the hands of a professional comedic director

nobody knows if the movie is solid or not yet, so that point is kind of moot. a vast majority of marketers would chose a cast of 4 known actors over 4 unknown actors 100/100.

I'm not a fan of broad, slapstick Melissa McCarthy. However, when she plays straighter, as she did on Gilmore Girls, she's excellent.

Kate McKinnon is a genius and I will white knight for her until the end of time.

I've only really seen Wigg and Mccarthy, and while I think both are good actors and can be funny, it's just not who I imagine in the role.

Honestly, if I were going to do the casting, and I had to stick with an all female cast, I would probably suggest Jessica Williams from the Daily Show, Amy Poehler, any one of the women from Brooklyn 99, and the main chick from Orange is the New Black.

How can you imagine someone in roles that don't exist?

It's completely natural to think of the existing Ghostbusters roles, but there's no reason to think they'll apply to a reboot.

Will not see. Just sounds horrible. And I'd say the same thing if it was an all male cast. Seriously, have the studios completely lost any sort of creative ability? Nothing but remakes and sequels these days.

Yep. That's how the characters age throughout the movie - they filmed it as they actually grew up. Pretty awesome actually.

Boyhood is a 2014 American coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Richard Linklater and starring Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater, and Ethan Hawke. The film was shot intermittently over the course of a 12-year period, from 2002 to 2013, and depicts the adolescence of a young boy in Texas growing up with divorced parents.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyhood_%28film%29

As for the distribution of Predestination, that's kind of my point - our studios make absolute garbage for movies. The best stories as of late are coming from independents and other non-mainstream places. The fact that a domestic studio is making Ghostbusters implies to me that it's going to suck. The director doesn't have as much say (unless you're someone like Christopher Nolan, who has a bit more leverage given his track record) about what goes on with the movie. Ghostbusters 2 is a perfect example and actually factors in greatly with regard to Bill Murray refusing to take part - Hollywood had begun developing new special effects techniques and the studio basically said "fuck the story, just make sure you have tons of special effects" in GB 2. Hence the reason it sucked majorly in comparison to GB 1.

The fact that a film has good source material does not guarantee a captivating and creative movie. Basically, see every video game adaption. In terms of all of the creative design that goes into making a great film, the basic plot is just another piece of the puzzle.

And, based off of his comment, he was implying that hollywood does nothing more than poop out cash cow sequels and comic book spoofs, which it most certainly does indulge in, but there have actually been many amazing works of art that have come out recently (oops, I forgot about The Master and Under the Skin) that will certainly be relevant for years to come.

I wonder if they are going to operate out of the same firehouse? I've visited it twice... when i was there they still had the ghostbusters 2 sign hanging up inside...(although the interior of the building is not the same interior from the films)

I also visited dana's building from the first movie...the top part of the building was filled in via special effects in th movie but the entrance was the same.

DA FUCK? She works her sexified ass into her comedic performances in a way that makes me go ghostbusters. I mean, despite the fact that she is a full blown hottie, her dead-pan delivery is always right on point.

She is like a cuter, more successful, and an all-around better version of a female Ryan Reynolds.
