We could have meetings, but that would be way too much effort.

^^ I LOLed as well

Yamaha C3 here... average 80mpg. It's not my primary method of transportation, but it gets as much use (sometimes more) as my car.

And yes, my scooter matches my car

(I don't have those ridiculous gold rims, though!)

BUT NOT GAS PERMITTED. LOL.

so i got the sc00t running strong. replaced the foam air filter with a cars filter that i cut into place (we'll see tomorrow how it held up) and i drilled 2 holes at the end of the exhaust for more powR.

got up to like 45mph on flat road. hit 50 easily on a slight decline. batt'ry is dead though, glad there is kickstart

ok TWW, I'm seriously gonna hit up the scooter store sometime - just to look around you know. are you like, way more likely to die on a scooter than in a car? is riding one almost a guaranteed maiming like a motorcycle?

well you cant go on highways....

but that doesnt mean you cant get injured on the streets.

goto a scooter store, but just for like test drives and stuff. buy one from Craigslist. they're a bit cheaper on there from private party sellers.

the markup on these things is ridiculous. couple years ago, yea, you'd be called a drunk. but now, more people understand that its not only people who lost their license who drive one.

yeah I was wondering about the markup. Like should you expect to pay sticker, or can you talk them down. I'd be hesitant to buy one on craigslist

I have heard em called "liquor cycles" before. But yeah it is true now when I see them I do not automatically assume the person lost their license.

I have to think that driving one in the winter would be teh sux0r.

There are some fairly decent places to buy them on the Internet, if you're willing to look a bit. I had one delivered from Legion Global Wholesale (http://www.globaltrailer.net/category-s/31.htm) and some of their pricing is still cheaper than local places.

while i agree with buying one from craigslist, it's mainly for the sake of avoiding tax...but it depends on what you want to get

you can easily find new scoots for less than $1k...they'll be chinese scooters, which isn't BAD, but they won't last forever like the japanese one do...i would assume that for most people, this works out well

however, let me point out that my 2005 scooter has 17,000 miles on it and is still going strong...i put on 400-500 miles a month...simply put, the chinese scooters will NOT last this long, no matter how well you take care of them

a lot of the ones at the scooter store on hillsborough have, if i'm not mistaken, honda and/or yamaha engines in them, despite the fact that the bodies are made by another company...they're good scooters and should last for a good long while (they're also easier/cheaper to fix...ask tripleD4u)

a good scooter will cost you $1800-2000 plus tax (which is why buying from craigslist is nice...you save yourself $150-200 in taxes, fees, and bullshit)

although, buying an $800-1000 scoot online with no taxes will probably last you 5,000-8,000 miles, at which point you could just buy another one and sell the old one for $100 as parts

So can I get a scooter that runs for like four or five hundred? I mean there are running cars on craigslist in that price range.

probably...but they'll almost certainly be used chinese scoots (but as long as they're under 750-1000 miles, you're probably fine)

yeah but the main point with these sc00ts are that they get double-triple the gas mileage a car would.

^^^^ i wish i could figure out what brand that is...it looks like a metropolitan, but not quite...a knockoff isn't worth that kind of money

^^^ mine gets 3x my 4-banger saturn's city mileage

^^ they're not really that dangerous...less dangerous than a bicycle

I found an electric one for $80 that just needs a new battery. Looks kind of fun. I am scared of getting plowed down by an SUV though.

^^ if it's anything like gas-powered scoot top speeds, that's downhill with a good tailwind

again, it depends on where you're driving...i ride on lake wheeler, centennial, western, and hillsborough...speed limits go up to 45mph, and people go around me at 38mph

^ and yeah, i plan on scooting in the winter as long as it's above 40°F...lower than that, and i might bite the bullet and drive the car

why the hell don't we have this kind of stuff in the states? 110cc, 100mph top speed (which would scare the ever-loving crap out of me), 193mpg...think of it as a new and improved honda cub...only to be sold in thailand

^ I don't know if I would even call that a scooter. It's like a motorcycle with a gash cut out of the middle where the fuel tank would usually be.

^ agreed...but honda (and thailand) classifies it as a scoot, and when was the last time you saw a 110cc motorcycle?

oh, and set 'em up
