I've heard Ayoub used to give extra credit for attendance. Does he still do it?

So far, I'm not impressed with his teaching style...

i don't know but i never go... the lectures are boring as shit, and am not interested in the material. have other priorities (412, 403, 415, 435).

the only advantages ive heard of about going to class is he sometimes works difficult homework problems for you (before the hw is due)

Yeah he did that last week one day. As long as he curves grades I'm ok with it. He sure is assigning plenty of HW....

Yea, he's still here. Yesterday he explained how to do some of the homework. It's funny though. I wrote down exactly what was on his answer sheet in excel, went home to work the problem, and the answers didn't match up. This class is terrible. If so many people hate Ayoub, why is he still teaching so much?

according to him he's relaxed the amount of stuff students do in his class...with age/retirement "nearing"

in response to your previous statement, i did the homework based on his help on monday... the thing is my answers did match up. the thing is i wrote down the "book solution" part of the excel file he showed us, instead of the work he did himself.

I ended up with the right answers. I had interpreted the problem wrong: A common problem in these types of courses I think.

I thought he was a pretty funny guy. Not much of a teacher but a good guy nontheless. It was convenient that his tests were exactly like the homework.

ah, i finally found part of my end of semester review for this class. <drama>
---
Lectures were completely irrelevant. Again, hands down, the absolute worst class that I have ever, ever, ever had. The worst combination of teacher, classroom, and material. Completely irrelevant to my major, every moment in that classroom was a moment that I would never get back. I could feel myself dying more and more with each passing day. This class was the most painful experience. The structure of the tests and grading guaranteed that you didn't have to learn the material or concepts or context, but rather memorize the solutions to a handful of problems. Cheating was rampant. He didn't care. He more or less encouraged it. This was, with out a doubt, completely, unequivocally, the worst educational experience that I have ever had at NCSU. Students in this course are best served by the instructors removal from the teaching schedule of this lecture. The $150 book was never once cracked.

the only reason people are in it now is because the MAE curriculum changed so that you can take this class instead of a technical elective, and this class is easier than said tech electives.

I'm hoping it's going to be useful down the road. I've heard graduates say it is! I found out you can actually request to be put back on the old curriculum. I switched from CE to ME right at the switch, but I ended up in the ME-081 curriculum. Heeter told me I could request Mary Clare Robbins to be put back on the old one, but it was already too late.

Haha...Ayoub is crazy...he tells every class every semester that he is going to retire. He also loves to say D-V-D...anyways, Im pretty sure that he curved the final grades last year, but im not sure if it was due to attendance or not.

He still says "D-V-D" and that he has Alzheimer's. Now he's got a new favorite phrase "GOT 'EM!" from the Blackberry commercial w/ the guys trying to find 'Callahan.'

That would be my experience. It's unfortunate that I got to this thread too late to give constructive advice.

...because it's past the drop date.
