Yeah, the more I exercise, the more weight I seem to gain. Even doing cardio. From Jan-Aug last year I was going to the gym 10-20 hrs a week, including about 45 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. I put on about 20 pounds. Mostly muscle I'd say, but it didn't get rid of the slightest bit of my belly fat. The fat in my arms and legs is all but gone though.I think I need to eat leaner foods.
2/4/2009 3:32:21 PM
i gotta lose weight for a scale to tell me how much i weigh

Is pooljobs JonHGuth?
2/4/2009 3:33:34 PM
^^^or just less calories
2/4/2009 3:36:09 PM
pooljobs, 18 lbs. in 5 weeks is pretty good.porcha, 95 lbs. in a year is straight up remarkable. What worked for you?I was 222 lbs. in late December. Currently sitting at 213. I'm not setting a timetable exactly, but I'd like to be below 200 by the summer, and eventually to get down to 175. Haven't seen 175 in about 10 years. (though I did get close in '05, went from 205 to 182 but eventually gained it back plus some)
2/4/2009 3:41:23 PM
I am going for mainly weight loss, but would like to tone up in the process. Im trying to do it in a controlled sustainable way. So far its been mostly moderate changes to diet and a little more activity. Im going to be hitting the gym more and running more, I just hate running so I have to get over that mentally and stay on it.
2/4/2009 3:46:07 PM
2/4/2009 3:46:38 PM
^that dude put in incredible hours at the gym, and had a retardedly strict diet....mad props
2/4/2009 3:48:31 PM
If you don't like to run then don't do it. Don't set yourself up for failure. There are other ways to do cardio without fucking your knees up. I HATE running but love the elliptical. I can get a hardcore cardio workout in on the elliptical better than a run.

my story:March '05 - 295lbsAugust '05 - 205lbsFebruary '09 - 235lbs 200 is my target weight for my height and build, 210 or so if I do a lot of lifting for bulk. most of that weight I've put back on in the last year working at a bar where my hours and schedule don't allow for a regular nutritional or exercise routine and slow my metabolism to a screeching halt. I'm actually fairly certain my body synthesizes fat from oxygen now.

Jan, 18th 2009: 264End of:Week1: 253Week2: 247Currently in week 3. I'm just starting to notice the weight difference (notch on the belt), but the differences in my workouts are really crazy. Speeding up and going longer/farther in my cardio workouts, and able to handle much much longer circuits with weight training. I'm burning a good 10-15% more calories a day in the gym just from being able to up the tempo. Also keeping a very moderate diet, nothing crazy there, so I know I can maintain the workload without burning out.The hard part is the time commitment. I basically lose 3 hours a day to the gym, 6 days a week. But really that's what it takes to stay at the upper (safe) limit of proper weightloss ~.5lb per day.[Edited on February 4, 2009 at 7:00 PM. Reason : Keeping on this until I'm back to 200 and ready for the Olympic Tri this summer]

Good luck with your weight loss, making yourself accountable is a huge part of the struggle.I lost 70lbs. (258 down to 188) from Fall 2005 - Fall 2006 and got featured in a Men's Health article for my trouble. It's well worth it, good luck.
2/5/2009 10:27:10 AM
yeah i remember seeing that on fb or myspace or somethingI was 187 sophomore year, but a lot of that was because they had me on ritalin

You should also put up pictures documenting your weight loss so you can see your progress.

graduated last may. immediately decided it was time to get my shit straight. like cold turkey i dropped junk food. no more sweet tea, beer, juice. liquid with calories is such a waste. cut carbs. avoided sandwiches whenever i could. no pasta. at the roasted chickens from harris teeter pretty much every day with mixed vegetables for lunch. luckily i do really enjoy healthy food, so this wasn't that hard. i loved salads and good vegetables before i started this stuff. the low carb diet works. carbs are the immediate source of energy you burn through when you work out. if there are less of them present in your body, the faster you dip into your actual fat reserves.worked out 7 days a week for the first 7 months or so. i think i maybe missed 5 days in that period literally. 1 hour on an elliptical machine. 30-40 minutes of weight training 3 days every week. building muscle is essential to burning fat. i was actually able to put on a bit of muscle while losing so much weight, which is rare. weight loss to this extreme will deplete every type of matter in your body, even bone density. i also took up running to cut the blandness of a stationary machine. when i started i could run just over 1/4 a mile. i'm up to just above 9 miles now.i'm just over 6' 4" so i've alway been a big dude. i wrestled in middle school and high scool. i know in 7th grade i weighed around 220. it's crazy realizing that i weigh now at 23 what i weighed in 6th grade probably.chest was around 52" now i'm down to 44". waist line had reached 44" just before graduation. i'm a comfortable 36" in the great majority of brands now.at this point i think i'm probably too skinny. i'm only working out 3-4 days a week now. i'm maintaining the fitness i achieved. i'm eating quite a bit more, but my metabolism is just nuts still. i literally can't gain weight at the moment.
2/5/2009 12:44:00 PM
yea, i don't gain weight anymore, I just bloat after a cheat meal and it goes away over the next few days....lovin it
2/6/2009 1:53:12 PM
why do so many "healthy" meals have so much sodium? is it a way to replace flavor?
2/6/2009 2:48:18 PM
preservatives likely...I love the mrs. dash spices and other hot stuff for all my new meals....no sodium or msg
2/6/2009 2:53:08 PM
midway march '08: 193end of april '08: 176cut back on bs food, ate tuna sandwiches for lunch and hot pocket calzones for dinner (600 calories and they fill ya up). still drank (mostly liquor) a good amount.30 mins of cardio (ran 1 mile and then did 20 mins on elliptical), 3 days per weekplayed 1-2 hrs of DDR on fridays good tip for weight loss: drink low calorie drinks during meals or whenever youre thirsty (crystal light is a good option, the powder shit you put in water, its like 5 calories per serving)[Edited on February 6, 2009 at 2:58 PM. 2/8/2009 5:38:33 PM
I feel you. Friday night I drank 12 MH #9s. Then last night 6 or so Shiners. Basically threw away the work I put in last week.
2/8/2009 5:41:33 PM
I've now lost about 10 lbs over the past month and a few days, primarily through eliminating most of my liquid calories, along with starting a moderate amount of exercise (avg. probably 2x/week, would like to work up to 4-5x/wk). I gave up soda, sweet tea, all alcohol, and took it easy with juice, coffee drinks, and milk. The results took a while to show up, but it's working now. I don't intend to become a teetotaler so I'm going to try to work alcohol back in, but in moderation. Hopefully if I do that while stepping up my exercise, the weight loss will continue.I haven't made a whole lot of changes in my diet, I'm just being reasonable and trying to eat only when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full rather than when my plate is clean. Not doing low-carb or anything in particular.
