I've gotten a couple of PMs about this so I'm just going to make a thread

What you need:
Rice krispies treats
Melted white chocolate
Melted dark chocolate
green food coloring
Homemade marshmallows
Dried fruit
Tapioca balls
etc!

How to Make:

Rice:
For the rice krispies treats you just make them as you normally would. If you want roll sushi, you let the rice krispies treats cool in a pan and then cut them out with a circle cookie cutter. If you want nigiri sushi, you take the still warm rice krispies treats and form them into small ovals. Flatten the bottoms so that they stand easily when put on a plate.

Once you have your rice base formed, you will dip them in white chocolate. This will get them nice and white looking.

Marshmallows:
I used this recipe: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/best-homemade-marshmallows
For the egg sushi I added yellow food coloring and lemon juice instead of the vanilla extract. Basically just flavor/color it however you want.

The shrimp shaped marshmallow is pretty easy to make. Take some of that foam mold stuff or modeling clay or whatever and shape it into a shrimp.

Then on a baking pan dump in a bunch of cornstarch. Level the cornstarch. Then start dropping your shrimp mold into the cornstarch. Finally, you'll pour the hot marshmallow into your shrimp holes. Once the marshmallow has cooled you can remove it from the cornstarch, brush it off, and then use a paintbrush or whatever to apply orange food coloring to make the shrimp bands.

Nori strips:
Spread out some wax paper. Melt dark chocolate in a double boiler. Then add some green food coloring until you get a nori looking color. Using a brush, spread the chocolate onto the wax paper. Make sure it's not too thin! Allow the chocolate to cool. Cut the wax paper into strips. If you are making roll sushi, you can also cut wide bands a little bit taller than your rice circles. Dip the bands into warm water for 1 - 2 seconds, just enough to soften the chocolate. Wrap the chocolate around your sushi and gently lift off the wax paper.

Fish eggs:
These are super easy. Just take medium sized tapioca balls and boil them in juice and food coloring. Once they're soft, drain whatever remaining juice there is and let them cool down.

Just get creative! I did things like use shredded coconut for onions, and I dyed the leftover white chocolate green to make avocado and wasabi. Chocolate sauce can be your soy sauce.

If you want to give your fish a kind of wet look, just brush it with some sweetened condensed milk. That's what I did for this sea urchin sushi. If you want mayo on your sushi, use something like vanilla icing. Tobiko? Orange sprinkles! Black sesame seeds? Chocolate sprinkles! You get the idea.

If anyone else ends up making some, post your pictures! I want to see what other people create

Make sure your S.O. has a lot of patience, because when you make these fucking things, you stress everyone out in the house.

but if I link a Tdub thread there are no assurances there won't be racist pornography in this thread
and regardless, my friends and family are going to be like "You still read this?" OR " Why do you spend your time with people who just bring you down and hold you back?!"

This is too much work for something that only tastes pretty good when all together. But it does look really nice and would be a nice arts and crafts thing to do with the snot-nosed kids.

Exactly. I don't see the point in it.

So you want to eat Western candy/dessert, but you want it shaped like a Japanese specialty savoury food such as sushi?

The rice krispies, chocolate, marshmallows, dried fruit, etc., taste the same whether they are eaten as is, or made to look like dead cut-up sea creatures.

I'm usually all about doing stuff just for the hell of it because it's cute. But this is beyond me.

Not to say it's not really cool, because it is and I think it's neat that you have the dedication to do it ... but I just don't see putting that much effort into it.

If you like rice krispies treats you'd like these. It's basically just a chocolate covered one with an extra marshmallow on top. If you don't like rice krispies treats, you're fucked

It's not really that much effort as long as you don't try to do it all at once in a mad rush. I made the marshmallows one day after work and then threw them in a ziplock bag until I was going to use them. The rice krispies treats take 10 minutes to make? The chocolate is another maybe 10 minutes, but that's stretching it. The tapioca you let boil while you're assembling the other pieces of sushi.

The point is you want to bring something to a party that's impressive, not just the same old crap I made these for a party and the people there were like then after eating them.
