I LOVE Ikea
the 1st time I went into one in San Diego it was like heaven.
I also love their $1 cinnamon rolls

i don't understand people who hate ikea

it is perfect for young professionals who know they're going to move in < 3 years

i agree, if you're 35 and in the house you'll probably live at for a decade+, start building your "real" furniture collection

but i don't see the point in hating a $7 stylish coffee table

plus, the open box section is MY SHIT son
you can build anything for like $30 if you hit the open section at the right time

i'm pretty sure the one that just opened in Red Hook had some pretty big opening deals

i wouldn't be surpised if the CLT one does likewise

haha, not if it all gets gone this week

ikea is cool until you've been to 15 apartments that are furnished exactly the same because its one of everything of the cheapest thing ikea sells

I HATE REASONABLY PRICED YET GOOD LOOKING FURNITURE!

Seriously, why the hate? No one is saying it is the highest quality shit around, but most of it looks good and will serve its purpose for the people it is marketed to. I agree completely with Woodfoot's post.

Unless you're building your own furniture or are ballin' enough to afford some really nice furniture, there's no reason to hate.

I dunno about standing in line for 35 hours, but Ikea is awesome. All my furniture came from there and it didn't cost me shit.

no, Ronny

when i went to ikea i wanted to shoot everyone in there because there were about 5000 too many people in the store

i gave it a second chance where i actually had an opportunity to look at the items and they were all shit

This guy clearly has impeccable taste in furniture.

Sorry
You're right, I haven't actually been to a store so maybe my opinion will change after that. My girlfriend is going to make me go with her soon so I guess we'll see.

so are you then suggesting it is not good looking furniture

i'd have to say that for all the complaints one can make about ikea (chipboard, self-assembled, etc)

the style and design is not a complaint you can make easily, especially considering they rip a lot of their designs directly off the more couture establishments (i'm thinking of a few items that are BLATANT rip offs from like DWR)

i now notcot.org likes to point this out when they're obvious rip-offs

so i'm not sure what your point was

Ikea is good stuff. Just don't expect to set it up, and then move it again; it doesn't hold up real well at least in my experience. And don't drop an Ikea dresser down a flight of stairs if at all possible.

^^like i said, there are valid complaints to be made

but the "style" is not one of them

unless you have a problem with all modern furniture

now that i think about it

i will give them credit for their business model, it is genius

the whole "do-it-yourself" model and how encouraging they are with the packaging and the store displays

they can really save dough on floor employees and shipping

ikea is good if you want stuff to look at and not use heavily... that or you like talking with customer service to get the entire contents of what you purchase

when a customer service rep tells you to return the furniture and not buy from them I tend to think they've had the problem more than once, but it probably only happened twice

yeah, my last ikea purchase wasnt that great. a pair of real wood bedside tables, but one of the tables had legs that werent the same length so it wobbled. we said fuck it and stuck an extra chairpad thing under it, but its still annoying

Ikea is the Ambiente for people who are just starting out.
$300 platform bed, or $3000 platform bed; that is the question.

I'd like to take this time to point out that I blew way too much money on a king sized Ethan Allen bed and new mattresses this past week. Hopefully it'll last for decades to come though (well, not the mattresses.)
