wouldn't anything you might be worried about in tap water go away with boiling it or whatever.

crazy thing is, that's not unheard of around this area of upstate NY.

A while ago, IBM was dumping hazardous materials in one of my neighboring cities (Endicott). That shit got into the soil and water. People started getting cancer.
It's called the Plume around here. But there was some crazy statistic saying that many of the people, and kids especially, who had parents that worked at IBM during that time now have cancer.

Really sad.

boiling doesn't get rid of any of the chemicals that might be in the water.... doubt you have to worry about any bacteria in it

oh i just assumed bacteria. i guess not if you are worried about chemicals. but haven't chemicals been found in a lot of bottled water brands as well? i think the answer might be yes.

You are aware that your entire childhood was spent drinking and using tapwater, as well as society for many generations. Just because society and advertising tells you it is poisonous doesn't mean that it will kill you. Do you drink water at restaurants? Do you think they use bottled water when preparing your meals? Do you think the bottled water you use comes from another bottle of water?

Yeah, I remember as a kid in the summer we would often have to use jugs of water to cook with because the town ran out of tap water

[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 9:49 PM. Reason : sometimes our water was even brown but you still had to bathe in it ]

i live in cary and i usually drink tap water but lately it has been tasting like pool water. i dunno if it has to do with the annual water disinfection.

i'm not too concerned about plastic. i don't believe in global warming ... i think the Earth has been here millions of years already. It's doing fine.

regarding tap water . . . I don't drink the stuff. and correct some bottled brands do use tap, but then there are some that don't. my preference is for Evamore water. it's delicious.

yes that is extreme

bottled water is held to no greater (and often less!) scrutiny than municipal tap water
further, plastics from bottles may leach chemicals into the water if it is stored for a long time
plus the plastic packaging is an unbelievably wasteful use of petroleum

if you're concerned buy a home filtration system
there are many on the market... enough to satisfy any and all of your paranoid fantasies
