Set for release March 2010 currently. I <3 Tim Burton, and am excited for this. I think I watched Disney's animated and the made for TV movie (w/ Scott Baio!! haha) of Alice in Wonderland probably over 100 times when I was younger. Can't wait to see his vision for this film.

Some of the post-production cast as of current...

Mia Wasikowska as Alice (HBO's In Treatment)
Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter
Noah Taylor as the March Hare
Anne Hathaway as the White Queen
Helena Bonham Carter (of course!) as the Red Queen
Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit
Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar
Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat (nice!!!)
Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts
Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock
Matt Lucas as Tweedledee/Tweedledum (HBO's Little Britain)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1014759/

now for a little concept art!

What a surprise.

I don't think I ever saw the Disney version all the way through, but I think I'll see this.

I used to watch that Disney show every morning ... it was live action and the rabbit was on Rollerblades.

I don't remember much else.

I too, am interested in how much Tim Burton can fuck this up.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was atrocious.

I will say that Alice in Wonderland has more potential from a Tim Burton view point, I'd probably be more interested if he hadn't fucked up Charlie so much.

I was really excited about this in the first place, but Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat is icing on the super fucked up cake.

goddamnit burton

that tramp from fight club and big fish is going to be in this as well, what a joke.

his schtick was played out in the mid 90's, this is going to be an abomination to Lewis Carroll

OK, Steven Speilberg is married to that tramp from Indiana Jones Temple of Doom but he doesn't put her in every movie he does, AMIRITEORAMIRITE?

Come on, there are TONS of people that are several rungs below Tim Burton that get tons of work. m night shyamalan ring a bell? 1 decent movie and a bunch of terrible movies? Michael Bay?

Although he is certainly not the best ever or anything like that, the list of people who's resumes are not as good as Burton's would be pretty long in my eyes.

So Tim Burton has made a few less than stellar movies. But lets look at this (imo):

Very Good Movies
---------------
Beetlejuice
Batman
Batman Returns
Ed Wood
Big Fish
Nightmare Before Christmas
Edward Scissorhands

Mediocre Movies
------------------
Sleepy Hollow
Corpse Bride
James and the Giant Peach

Whats left in the last 20 years that most people wouldnt fit into those two categories?

Sweeney Todd
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Mars Attacks!

Yea, I have no idea why he keeps getting work!

It might not be Burton's style, but I'd appreciate it if the movie looked like this:

Burton is kinda like Guillermo del Toro. You can imagine how the whole movie will look, scene for scene. If you know the story already you can safely skip it. That's why I'm not looking forward to the Hobbit. I feel like I've already seen it. Better him than Sam Raimi I guess.

well I feel like those bottom 3 are very polarizing. So I put them at the bottom. I personally am not a big fan of Mars Attacks but I know lots of people who are. I also know a lot of people who enjoyed sweeney todd. But I tried to kinda put together a list with my personal opinions and also a little influence from what I know my friends etc. like.

^ I dono, I mean i've read the book probably 10 times and I still enjoy it everytime and I'm really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen regardless. I think he'll do a good job. But I know what you were getting at.

Ed Wood is a very good movie - technically maybe his best. But then again I think Beetlejuice was great and really enjoyed Big Fish too so based on your tastes you probably wouldn't like it. /shrug.

I'm excited for this

I really liked the 1999 Hallmark version, but I'm sure that the special effects in Burton's version will be light years ahead of that one (for better or worse).

i LOVED LOVED LOVED mars attacks! there are very few movies i will watch repeatedly, but this is one of them. i really loved big fish too, as well as the others that are a given. not so much on batman & batman returns.

this sounds promising to me.

If ever there was a movie Terry Gilliam should have done, it was this one. Hell I'm pretty sure Gilliam's entire career was basically inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Oh well, now we can have a pretty good but completely forgettable adaptation of it.

You forgot to put Planet of the Apes in the Horseshit movies.

But I also don't understand all the hate for Tim Burton. Sure his movies in the last 10 years have not been as stellar as before (I loved Big Fish though), but I still think he is a great director and has interesting visions of things, even though they are playing themselves out a bit.

That said I'm hoping this movie will be good and I think it has potential. I hope his interpretation meanders a bit from the book and gets a little different. I liked the idea of this movie when it came after the popularity of "American McGee's Alice" back in 2000 so maybe there could be a little influence there.
