I think it helps a lot to be on top of a division when you are required to play a really, really bad intra-divisional team many times.

To wit..

Baltimore is 11-37 vs. the AL East (though they are 0-12 vs Toronto, yikes), Arizona is 15-33 vs. the NL West, only Washington has a "respectable" losers' record against their division at 22-26.

I wonder it would be like if every team in MLB had to play each time the same # of times home and away...

my point on the last page wasn't that the AL Central is as good as the AL East or anything...just that I think the Twins, Sox and Tigers could still easily win the division...KC and Cleveland suck, but I don't expect this division to get wrapped up anytime soon...Tigers are single digit games back...this is the same division that came down to a 163rd game each of the last 2 seasons
