Guy who creates electronic dubstep/reggae/breakbeat using beatboxing and loop pedals.

I'm probably going to be picking up his album sometime. I wish this guy would perform on the streets around here

Ah, the egotist's art.

I wonder what Smashing Pumpkins would've sounded like if this technology was available in 1990.

Out of curiosity, do you also think KT Tunstall and Keller Williams are brilliant?

I'm just saying, he's doing the same thing that every bedroom musician in the world is doing, only a little quicker. I'm willing to bet that for every cool composition he's stumbled upon that ends up on youtube, he's done a dozen that people walk away from on the street.

sounds about how there's only one or two songs that DON'T suck on most artists' albums

I can't find the exact quote, but Phil Spector always said that an album was nothing but two hits and ten pieces of garbage.

that's my point...you stated that "I'm willing to bet that for every cool composition he's stumbled upon that ends up on youtube, he's done a dozen that people walk away from on the street." and i'm saying that if that's true, it's no different than what the average signed artist does anyway...he's no better or worse than most artists in that respect, but at least what he produces is currently free in the form of youtube videos

See, I thought you were suggesting the opposite because of the .

I don't know what albums you're listening to, but most of the stuff I come across from a good artist is just the opposite, with the good/bad track ratio being about 5:1.

Anyway, I don't think he's bad, and he's definitely making the most of the technology that's available. With that said, the fact that he uses a loop pedal to do this live instead of using a multitracker to do it in his bedroom is not revolutionary or impressive. On top of that, there are plenty of other artists making arguably more interesting music using the same technology.

Why the hate on Keller Williams? Dude is a great guitarist. I haven't heard a whole lot of his stuff, but I like quite a few of his songs.

Yngwie Malmsteen is also a great guitarist...doesn't mean I want to listen to him play.

C'mon, tell me how those same gripes don't apply to 90% of the indie pop/rock bands you're all up on in the Music of 20xx threads. They're just as derivative.

I'm not meaning that as an insult to your tastes or "the scene;" my point is that there is plenty of room in the music industry for people who aren't innovating. They're just doing something well, and if it sounds dope, it doesn't always matter how original it is. There is very very little innovation in music right now, but this guy is doing his thing, throwing it on youtube and seeing what resonates with people. Lots of bedroom musicians are doing the exact same thing, but 99% of them are doing it badly and certainly would never have the guts to do it out on the street.

"Friggin' amazing?" Probably not. But not worthy of your condescension, either.

there will always be elitist condescending remarks about any form of music that will ever be posted in this forum. that is fact. i thought it was pretty cool, and don't feel the need to seek out something that i would consider better so that i might "1-up" the OP

I agree. I'm not hating on the guy's talent, but the title of this thread makes him seem like a genius, which he isn't. My tone in my original reply is more aimed at God than it is Dub FX, so my bad on that one.

This I don't agree with as much. A band like Dirty Projectors is doing a lot of innovative stuff. Granted, some of it sucks, but nothing else sounds like some of their newer stuff.

Can he get that Surfer Blood album in prison? I feel they have taken his theory to the max.
