How long do you have to cancel service to be able to just sign up for a new account and get a better deal. Since their business model is "fuck existing customers, they'll keep paying regardless, we need to give discounts to new customers"

^Been on the same account for 10+ years at least, and I always get deals...right now Im getting extreme internet for less than the new customer offer. You just have to ask for it.

^^ twc told me that you can't get new-subscriber discounts, after cancelling service, at the same address, until you wait 12 months.

before we cut cable, we just transferred who's name cable was in every year if we couldn't talk them into letting us keep the intro rates

They tried the same thing on me, "you have the promotional price yada yada", if you downgrade service then you'll end up paying the same you are paying now.... I threatened to cancel if I didn't downgrade service and get a better rate. Finally they transferred me to another person up the chain, and I was able to talk them down, after I rejected their "best offer" 3 times, I was able to get what I wanted.

You may have to try several times and get a weak first line call handler. They are paid to prevent you from downgrading, and some are "better" than others.

just picked the most recent TWC thread to put this

Anybody know when TWC will require a box to watch any sort of cable? I've been getting it free for almost 2 years since I cancelled and returned my box and tried plugging the cable into the wall. My dad said he spoke with a service guy about it the other day who said June 1, but I can't find anything definitive online.

5/5 is when TWC is going all digitial. You will need either a box or an adapter to watch cable at that point. If you are a current subscriber the adapter is free.

Its free "now". Theres been multiple reports they will consider it a rental after their first year, and they still own it that first year.

And you need a TWC issued adapter/box? Or is this something I could buy somewhere else?

if you have a QAM tuner on your tv, will it still work?

^^^ No doubt they charge for it at some point.

^^ Dont know if the adapter is proprietary, but I would assume it would be.

^ QAM tuner will not work. If you dont have a box you must have the adapter.

From TWC website:

Quote :
"Without a device, such as a Digital Adapter or a Set-Top Box, you will not be able to view any channels, even if in the past you have utilized a TV with a built in QAM tuner. With 100% digital picture and sound, you’ll see and hear nothing if you plug the cable wire directly into your TV."

^ That's my understanding as well. TWC is going to send out a signal that can only be decoded by one of their boxes.

in one of their many letters they send me, it did mention that there will be a rental fee for the digital adapter. cant remember exactly how much it was but around $7/month comes to mind.

I think it's closer to 2-3 dollars per month per box. It can add up if you have multiple tvs.

After filing a BBB complaint, they contacted me in the first week.

Offered in total $375 in credits to my account, which seemed reasonable considering the amount of time it took me to notice the issue, and I still got to watch HBO/Showtime/movies the entire time.

Once the credits are used up, I will switch to Business class cable since Cisco is going to start paying for my monthly home internet costs.

i have internet and basic cable only. My bill creeped up ~15$ this month. I loaded up the Feb bill and the april bill to compare. Nothing change except they combined my internet and cable into some 100 package and snuck in the $15 increase.

I hear they've been having issues with quite a few of the digital adapter boxes. So they could be taking their time burning the channels so that the people having issues can still watch TV. That's just speculation on my part but I have heard a lot of the adapters have been screwed up.

I installed my mother's, grandmother's and my own digital adapters.

Mine and my mom's worked fine.
2 of my grandma's were messed up but a TWC rep came out the next day and fixed it.

Personally, the digital adapter is an awesome upgrade. The quality on my TVs that I originally had the cable plugged in dramatically improved. I'm even picking up HD signals on most of the channels now through the digital adapter. I have them hooked up via HDMI and it is really nice.

It will suck when they charge me 2.95 per month per adapter, but oh well...

so its just the basic cable rate ($20ish?) plus the rental cost and you have an HDMI out?

DTA271HD by Cisco

My mother and grandma got the same ones. I assumed they were sending the same model to everyone.

That's weird that your HDMI out isn't working... This is probably a dumb question, but did you make sure to change the input on your TV?

^ I have that model and yes I had the input set correctly on the TV. When I first got it, it output video via HDMI as part of the setup/self-programming process. Once that was done, video output was coaxial only. The HDMI just outputs a black screen.

Maybe I'll give it another try in the hope that they've pushed out a software update or something.

^ you may need a new box. It took getting my 3rd box for everything to setup and work correctly. The first box went through everything but once everything was complete it'd only stay on channel 3. The 2nd box did like you were talking about, I wouldn't get any sort of output using HDMI. The 3rd box finally did the trick and all is in working order.

I will say the picture does look a lot better on all the channels.

Same issue for my parents with their adapter. The first one came a remote that simply did not work. They took it in and exchanged for another that would not register. Third one finally worked.

They said they would send me a new one in the mail but after a week of waiting I called again and apparently there was never an order for a new one.

I explained the issues I was having again and they then set up a time (1 hour window) for a technician to come. It ended up being better that he did, because I said, the 1st box he used didn't work either and he had another in his truck that did the trick.

I'd imagine you should be able to just call and have them send another one and you send the old one back with the prepaid label that came in the original box, but with TWC you never know what's going to happen.

I have done some google searching to no avail. Does anyone know the adapter box remote code. I want to program my tv remote to "talk" to it and control it. Is this even possible? I have the Cisco box.

I think it is in the manual that comes with the remote. I just did the opposite and programmed each adapter remote to operate my tv. Now I do not need the tv remotes.

You should not see a fee until July 2016 according to TWC.

Contact them.

I haggled with them yesterday.

Was not successful. Only received $10 off and an upgrade to the extreme package.

There is currently a deal for $45 for extreme for a year, but since I've been a customer for 'too long', the promo code is invalid for my account.

Lame. I guess I'll just cancel service for a time and sign back up later.

WTF...I pause an on-demand movie and after a few minutes the box goes to the TWC news channel, with no apparent way to return to my program.

Also whenever I turn on the TV it goes to that same channel

I'm not sure about your first problem, but your second problem can be fixed in the settings of the DVR. You can set what channel it goes to whenever you turn on your tv. By default it goes to the news channel but you can set it to any channel or the last channel.
