does subway count? I dont think I could go a whole year without subway
6/14/2010 11:29:43 AM
i cook every single meal i consume. i've definitely spent less than $50 since the beginning of the year on prepared food1 year of no fast food, exactly 1 serving of red meat over the past 2 years and exactly zero refined sugar in the past 2 years has helped me go from:235 lbs, size XL shirt, size 38/40 pantsto:170 lbs, size M shirt, size 31/32 pants[Edited on June 14, 2010 at 11:35 AM. ^ that's pretty damn impressive. awesome work.-I would never give up bojangle's. And even that's a once or twice a month affair for me, except during football season.other than that, i'm not a big fan of fast food. it's useful on road trips and airports where you just want to fill your belly fast and cheap and get on with where you're going.[Edited on June 14, 2010 at 11:34 AM. you've missed some tasty treats my friend.
6/14/2010 11:34:13 AM
I live two blocks from a McDonalds and I'm proud to say that I've eaten there once in the past five years. Unfortunately, I eat at Moes weekly. Also, that McD's 365Black thing is the absolute essence of racism. Whites as well as blacks should both be offended by it.
6/14/2010 11:34:33 AM
You got up to 235? Thats not good..Of course, I'm currently 265, so I don't really have any room to talk.

i was on my way to a day long wildland firefighter training course during my internship in Northern Michigan. we had to be there at 7 and we were running late. we were told to bring a lunch to eat while we were in the middle of nowhere, but we forgot to do so since we were running late. the only grocery store that we passed along the way was closed in the morning, so i couldn't buy anything to have for lunch. so we bought breakfast to eat at noon because that was the only thing available.

6/14/2010 11:50:09 AM
it's also been VERY difficult to refrain from getting wings at BaDa during my weekly trip(s)that and Blizzards are really the only two things I really, really crave
6/14/2010 11:52:32 AM
Is life worth really living if you can't have pizza?

Hey longbow_fc, when is the next clan meeting?
6/14/2010 11:58:32 AM
In all honesty, I have a lot of respect for those who can have the discipline to eat like that. I know it's not easy for some people to keep weight off and I have to credit them for taking the initiative to be able to that. I don't know if I would be able.I eat like a dumpster yet have perfect blood pressure and cholesterol levels and a great metabolism so I don't really have to worry about it right now, especially when it comes to gaining weight (though I work out and run a lot). My biggest issue is that I have too many empty calories from alcohol. I don't necessarily get drunk but most days when I'm done with everything for the night I'll have a beer or two or glass of wine or two. That consistently adds up and I'm trying to be better about it.

the other secrets to my success:
6/14/2010 12:09:03 PM
oh hiaa
6/14/2010 12:11:06 PM
gg tke that's extremely admirable. In fact, it wouldn't even occur to me that this was even possible in this day/age/culture. I may attempt this as well
6/14/2010 12:13:19 PM
the other thing is that i'm semi-unemployed, so i'm at home quite a lot and that makes it easier for me to be able to cook every meal. i'm sure that as soon as i'm fully-employed and always on-the-go, it'll be extremely tough to avoid the convenience of a quick, prepared meal.
6/14/2010 12:15:38 PM
I approve, GG

congrats man! While I can't say that I have *completely* sworn off fast food, I can say that I probably stop at a fast food place <1x a month. Usually if I'm driving out of town and didn't have time or resources on hand to pack my meal easily. Now, I do have oven baked pizzas once or twice a week, but I'm not sure how your post relates to that But fast food is just so overpriced and unhealthy that I hardly even desire to have any these days. It was tough at first since I ate tons of it in college of course. But after I had been out of college for a year or so I decided to make the change and have been pretty good about it the past 2 years.
6/14/2010 12:20:55 PM
I eat a 6 inch sub from subway for lunch everyday and it's always one of the 6 grams of fat or less and that's my extent of fast food
6/14/2010 12:23:38 PM
gg! Very cool. I don't know if I could totally get away from subway but I think the other stuff I can do without.
6/14/2010 12:23:42 PM
yo OP i'm going to be producing my own meat soon (within the next few weeks as i get settled at my new place)got a coop set up, gonna pick chxns in there to produce eggs. going to separate out a portion of it for some rabbits (meatz).we should start a thread for fucking the man, where people post their DIY projects that stick it to the man[Edited on June 14, 2010 at 12:24 PM. I try to keep my fast food intake to a minimum... but cookout and bojangles sometimes get the better of me.
6/14/2010 12:25:03 PM
yep. once you get on a roll, as far as going without fast food, it becomes easier and easier to do without it. then every time you drive past a Bojangles or Burger King, craving a quick meal, you think to yourself "why spend 4-7 bucks for something that I know is horrible for me."(instead I use that 5 bucks for tobacco which is equally horrible for me)
6/14/2010 12:26:16 PM
6/14/2010 12:29:50 PM
wow tim you look great! good job giving up fast food wouldn't be so hard for me (with the exception of chick fil a and the occasional cook-out milkshake) but giving up eating out in general would be the tough part. i love the social aspect of eating in a restaurant and some things just taste better than i know how to cook. i DO however need to make eating out a special occasion type thing. something that i will appreciate more and also have the ability to choose nicer restaurants.at least the great thing is that it really isn't hard to cook a lot of what you eat at fast food places and put a healthy spin on it. plus you get to experiment with ideas and recipes in the kitchen, which is nice for the long run.
6/14/2010 12:31:36 PM
home grown herbs, and veggies are usually ALWAYS better tasting than store bought.
6/14/2010 12:32:00 PM
DIY: tomatoes, basil, peppers, chives and dill. that'll save my frugal ass some money!

i don't see how ALL fast food is bad...whats so wrong with an egg mcmuffin for example...or a char-grilled chicken sandwich from chik-fil-a?
