Keep seeing the commercial on history... looks like it will suck. I hope it doesn't but I doubt it'll keep up with the British version.

If they're allowed to say what they want without fear of offending any car companies it would be nice.

It will suck, but it will still be better than almost all the other shit on TV.

I'd still like for Top Gear UK to add an American host. Preferably a portly over-opinionated American who is way too cocky for his own good. I nominate myself for the role.

no american top gear UK host. ever. we suck so bad at getting our own version right, we don't need to ruin all that is right.

I haven't seen any trailers.

Will it suck in comparison to the original? of course.

It will still probably be the best US car show 10 time over.

Muscle Car was awesome when Lou Santiago was hosting. That guy was not afraid to hack some shit together and he did a damn good job at it. I have no idea if he left or if they got rid of him, but SpikeTV's lineup suffered tremendously IMO when they lost him.

I like Extreme 4x4 and I respect Ian Johnson as well although I don't find the show itself to be super interesting.

Top Gear is nice because they seem to have admitted that they're an entertainment show and that's what they focus on. I can get tech specs from the internet and I can get tests from the popular car mags. Top Gear isn't afraid to step outside the box and just talk about the experience of each car they test. I like that.

just turned this on and have seen about 5 minutes so far. holy crap this is terrible. i'll give it until the end of the show, but it just doesn't have the "charm" of the real show.

Yeah, its pretty awful so far. Foust is OK (the drift racer), moderately boring but he can actually drive. The other two guys are painful -- average joes who get giddy and make 'no shit' comments while failing to add anything informative.

They've obviously studied a lot of UK film, but British humor only works when delivered by British people.

The British show has done "dumb" segments on the level of the Viper vs helicopter thing. This show stuck pretty closely to the basic format of the British show and I like that. So far I think the hosts are lacking. Their interactions seem a little forced but perhaps more chemistry will develop as the show progresses.

They do bring an "everyman" quality to it which might be what the producers were going for. They act like 30something guys with office jobs who got this chance to drive fast cars. Maybe the producers hope the audience will in effect see themselves in these hosts. The UK hosts are cool, a bit aloof, and nowhere near as easily impressed. I trust the UK show for actual reviews of cars. These American hosts act like they've been driving Camrys and Tahoes their whole lives so they wouldn't know enough much about performance or refinement.

It's close enough to the UK Top Gear format that I'm willing to give the show a chance. I'll try to catch it next week.

you could tell in the last segment the hosts got more comfortable with each other and the show got funnier towards the end, hopefully they will continue on that track....no pun intended

if you guys turned it off after 10 minutes i can't blame you, but you really missed when they started to click. they chemistry in the reasonably priced car was good, and the final second was ok. i don't like the fat guy, but they have potential.

if you really think this was a train wreck you need to pull out top gear season 1 and watch a bit, they had more than their share of awkward moments and failed ideas but they worked out alright.

My take on Top Gear USA. Is it awesome compared to the real Top Gear? Not really. Is it awesome compared to other American shitty ass tv? Yes.

I think, once the hosts get more comforatable with each other, and they get rid of Wood, it will be pretty damn good.

I DVR'd this last night as there's already too much good TV on Sunday nights (Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead, Family Guy, reruns of The Wire) but I will check it out in the next day or two.

I mean, it wasnt great but have yall seen MotorWeek?? It was the very first episode of the show, its going to take some time for them to start to click. Top Gear has been on for what like 15 years? The first season of that wasnt all that great either. Sure its not as good, but were you really expecting it to be? Im going to at least give it a chance.

it was watchable and the second half of the show was actually decent.

like others said, go back and watch the first 5-7 YEARS of the british top gear. it was awful.
they'll get it right eventually, and I'll still enjoy it in the mean time.

again, this is AMERICA and shows don't get 5-7 seasons to ripen on the vine. to take a show like top gear and try to re-create it in america sucessfully, it needs to have a lot of ingredients and from what I see it lacks all of them. except one mousy host and a boring flat test track, they do have that.

jay leno was right, I hope you all didnt miss them plugging the viper and trying to hide it under comments like "dodge is killing the viper".

did anyone else notice how EVERY challenge shown on the "over the next 10 weeks" bit seems to be copied exactly from the British show?

pretty shitty if you ask me..

so you wanted them to buy a new top gear "franchise" for the US and not include any of the same challenges that made the original successful? what sense would that make? top gear australia uses a lot of the same stuff too.

If it's too close to the British show, somebody here is going to bitch. If it's too different from the British show, somebody here is going to bitch. They can't win can they?
