Yeah I really like the way the Suunto looks but I also like the Highgear...so I just don't know if I could justify $300 for the Suunto with the Highgear being $140.

Also repost to top the page....

this is going to be my next watch to replace the G-Shock that I lost. I like to have a good sports watch. It's the Highgear Alti-XT.

I was really interested in the Suunto Core but the Highgear watch is half the price and has all the same functions. Here is the Sunnto below.

For the collectors here, how do you keep your watches? In their original cases or have you bought a large case with a capacity of 6, 12, 18, etc? If big case, what did you do to the original boxes?

I feel like getting a big case cuz that would simplify things so much, but I also feel like holding on to the original boxes, at least some of them, the ones which are nice/presentable/unique. But that means holding on to too much wasted volume.

Curious what you guys do.

I have the original boxes all saved and protected. I have the watches in a modified Pelican case.

I do also use automatic winders too, for the ones I am wearing at the time.

thanks!

p.s.

which one do you prefer?

i agree too, but the brown one has a lot more contrast in the dial. the white black one's dial looks quite plain.

also comes with metal bracelets. best one is this:

In battery operated watch winders, in the safe/vault.
Original Boxes and papers for each watch are on a different shelf.

OEPII1 I have some Wolf winders, used with batteries in my safe as QTPie does. I bought a Pelican case and cut the foam to keep watches, straps, clothes, and tools. This has a lock on it too. http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1450

I used to own this watch back in college and I want to buy it again to use while I work out. I cannot seem to find it anywhere. Can anyone help me find this somewhere online? I want the exact same color.

My broke ass friend who is getting his doctorate at UConn has three Burberry watches. I know one costs $700, but I don't know how much the others cost (can't be too much less/more).

I was seriously taken aback by the fact that he could have over $2,000 in watches while he complains about being poor as fuck. He's doesn't pimp out the rest of his wardrobe (J. Crew/Banana Republic type guy...but always looking for deals at the outlets). The only thing I remember him going all out for in college was speakers and soundsystem...but he was absolutely (and still is) obsessed with music. So that seemed like a decent hobby.

He's also not going to be a "doctor" doctor (lab/research guy). So it's not like he's guaranteed six figures when he finally graduates and can justify big purchases at this point.

I did, however, thing his watches looked pretty damn good.

I believe the Burberry Watches have Fossil Movements in them. They are "fashion watches" and not worth near 700$, hell all 3 together aren't worth that.

Mmmm...just went to their website and the cheapest one was $695 and most expensive was $3,800. So I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I need something durable and water resistant. I work with kids and my stuff gets chewed on, drooled on, and pulled on. I wash my hands all the time. Should I just get a cheapo rubber watch from Walmart or target or is there something out there that will last me?

What they charge and what they are worth don't always equal each other. You are paying for Burberry, not anything special. I know they sell them for 600$ plus...just saying I would spend that on a better watch brand and not on fashion. I guess we all have our styles. I have seen the Burberry watches at the Fossil Outlet for 200$ or so.

Burberry are fashion watches made my Fossil.

http://www.ehow.com/about_5187795_burberry-watches_.html

Quote :
"Burberry watches were once made by Burberry, a publicly held British company that has been in business for more than 150 years. However, in the early 2000s, Burberry started using Fossil to make its watches. This relationship resulted in Fossil making Burberry watches for the international market."

^Exactly.

^^Budget? I'm always a fan of Citizen. You can get them (especially at Costco) with a Sapphire crystal, radio controlled, and perpetual calendar in the $200-300 range. Pretty much zero maintenance and pretty tough.

Oh I could care less about the quality of the watch...my comment was more along the lines of people paying that much for watches in general. Especially when they're cheap in pretty much every other aspect of their life.

^ Lots of seikos, citizens, and casios can be had in the $75 to $200 range. For the seikos, look for Seiko 5 models (automatic) with rubber or steel bands. For the citizens, look for Eco-drives (solar). Best way to do it is to go to amazon or another watch site, search for brand name, and then order by price. For other watch sites which sell cheaper than amazon, look for my posts in this thread. I have posted dozens of links in a couple of posts. If no luck, let me know.

As for fossil making Burberry watches, it is their Swiss division making them, so the watches are Swiss made. Fossil bought out a few swiss watch companies and makes their swiss watches in those comapnies. I have no problem with that. It is like saying Tata makes Jaguars. Yeah sure, Tata bought Jaguar, but the Jaguars are still made in the Uk, and Jaguars are not Indian cars. For Swiss made watches, the prices are reasonable. They can be had (originals) in the $300 to $500 range on some sites.

Thanks for your help. I am thinking rubber might be better than steel. The kid I watch is 8 months old and if he happens to get it in his mouth I would like him to have the smallest chance of getting hurt.

After having a couple watches with a Sapphire Crystal face I couldn't go back. Typically with brands like Citizen you can't grab one for under $400 but occasionally you'll see a deal pop up for ~$200. If you want durability Sapphire is the way to go. They're going to start making cell phone screens out of it too.

Got this watch http://www.amazon.com/Issey-Miyake-SILAS003-Collection-Automatic/dp/B0019DICHA

Ranges anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 on the internet. You absolutely can not get it for less than a grand.

I was able to get it for $213

It is an Issey Miyake (Japanese Haute Couture designer), and comes with a Seiko Instruments automatic movement. Comes in 4 versions.
The all metal ones range from $1,200 to $1,700 for the steel one, and $1,500 to $2,000 for the black plated one.

I got the brown leather version; that was the only one available at that price.
Actually, first it was the black leather one available at that price.
I ordered but a couple of days later my order was cancelled and my CC refunded.
Then the seller made the brown one available, so I got it.

Yeah that article is stupid. As I will restate. We're in America and people buy nice things. Clothes, cars, watches, houses, etc. A watch is a fashion statement like a nice suit and if you want to spend the money on a nice watch to make a statement then more power to you. The people ITT that argue that a $50 Timex does the same thing as as $5,000 Rolex are missing the point. A $200 suit has the same utility as a $2000 suit. If you can afford and are satisfied with a $200 suit then fine. If you make 10 times more and can afford a $2000 suit then great.

Someone is selling a Tissot automatic for $213. He said he wore it for 2 days only, and it normally sells for $400. Wondering if I should pick it up... already have too many. But hey, an extra one on top of 24 or so is not a big deal, right? . I do not have a Swiss automatic yet, and there is no way to find one that cheap, basically brand new.

^Very nice! I had my eye on one of those before I got a different Tag

^^^ Oh where is your sense of humor? This shit is hilarious:

Quote :
"You might, distracted, unaware, even fall into the trap of uttering the words, "Nice watch." At that point, it's already too late.

"Oh this? Yeah. Better be. Sixteen grand, right here. Ha. This is just my walking-around watch, you know? A little Tourneau, a little something. It's nice, but I don't give a fuck if I lose it, you know? I'll go out drinking in this watch. The Patek Phillippes, I keep at home. I only break those out on special occasions. Just for little parties and shit like this, I got this one, I got the Movado, I got the B-vvv-lgari, and I got the Vacheron. That one, I bought at the auction. People don't know about Vacheron. You got guys out there, they think Rolex is the thing. They think Rollies are like the nicest watch there is. That's amateur hour. Me, I don't even own a Rolex. Rolex makes you look like an asshole. Every time I see a guy in a Rolex I walk up to him and say, 'You see this? This is a fucking Richard Mille. This right here is worth more than ten of your shitty Rolexes.' Then I laugh at him and walk away. This watch thing is really about taste.""

Personally I wouldn't be so sure. That's not a personal slight or an attempt to be rude. It's a mater of personal taste (the same reasons some people like french country architecture, others like mid-century modern, and others like american craftsman etc.) and from what I have seen you and I do not overlap a ton on watch design. I don't remember who posted what, but I haven't hardly seen any watches posted in either watch thread on here that match my personal tastes. I hope that made sense..

That being said, the watch that I got was this. It is a Dieter Rams designed watch from either the late 60s or early 70s and everything about it just fits me perfectly.

I've seen lots of nice aesthetically pleasing watches in the minimalist modern style that I enjoy but that one I have always liked it since I saw it in a story about Rams so it was cool that they were re-issuing it.

Oh yeah I remember that, which thread did you post that in, and there was some discussion about it? And I suggested Mondaine and you said the hands were too thick.

Anyway, I only said what I said because you said "regardless of price", and not because I necessarily think you will like watches that I have bought. I mean, chances are very good that you will like many watches out there in the price range of 1k to 1kk . And I am mostly thinking of watches with many complications such as tourbillon, moon phase, equation of time, minute repeater, etc. Some of those watches are exceedingly gorgeous, IMO. And also, unusual/unique ways of telling time.

Having said that, I guess if you like minimalist watches such as that Braun one, there actually isn't much competition out there. Best place to find similar watches would be http://www.watchismo.com

Check out (if you want to) the brands Botta, Defakto, Rosendahl, Slow, Danish Design, Barcelona 666, and Mondaine. They also carry Braun. The first 2 and slow are one hand watches.

Im a huge fan of the citizen AR 3015-53E. It's a bit expensive for my taste, though I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat for $360 if it were the same profile with a titanium band... I understand that it would not be black ion plated and it's not heavy at all considering it's stainless steel band... I just want to minimize the form factor and weight while still being a nice dress watch.
