Good idea! I think it makes sense for the "winner" or "winners" to basically win ownership of the thread for the coming year. Kind of a fun idea.

God and I "co-owned" the thread in 2010.

Or, we just make the thread generic. I've also wondered if it needed to change names to something that doesn't really focus on "Beach Body", but on overall health, year-round.

Question: What do you think of a person who wears sunglasses while working out at the gym?

I feel like if I have them on with headphones, people will leave me alone and not talk to me and I can get more serious with my workouts. But I don't want to be a douche.

The only person that will prevent you from getting serious about your workouts is you.

I don't care if you work out in leopard hot pants and a tutu. If you're at the gym, you're doing something right.

"Now it's the press at 95lbs that's giving me grief when coupled with chin-ups and dips"

the press is an asshole, and it progresses the slowest...

for me at least.

are you doing your chins and dips after your presses, or doing some sort of supersets?

doing them first with my other compounds then using chins/dips as kinda assistance work has worked ok for me

except i get lazy and worn out after the other things and sometimes skip them

95 isnt that bad though. if you're doing a strict standing press (which with working with matt im assuming you are), you're into the novice range on exrx's standards, which isn't bad. it'll come up.

oddly enough, make sure you're squeezing your glutes really hard when you press.... it helped me a lot.

(for reference, i'm like 20 lbs heavier than you and only pressing 120, but been progressing slowly.... 110 was giving me fits so i dropped to 95 to work on form, and been back to adding 5lbs on the ohp workouts.. doing 5x5s instead of 3x5s though... started at 50lbs, lol)

Oddly, I dominate the press, but sorta suck on the bench. Well i guess not suck, but it gives me the most trouble

At bodyweight of 175lbs, my max overhead strict is 185lbs. Bench is only about 275lbs.

Just keep working on it. Make sure you are getting under the bar as early as possible, staying tight by squeezing your glutes forward, big breathe held with tight abs and lifting the chest hard.

I think the thing that messed me up Wednesday was that someone was on the squat rack so I had to do dips first. I was able to do 2x12 and then 1x10. I have a feeling that it wore out my arms for both chin ups and then the press. Thankfully, I've taken my legs out of the press so no more push pressing but I'll work on the tightening up my glutes and see if that helps.

Remember that dips and chins are accessory to the big barbell lifts, but you've gotta do what you can with what you have.

Fair enough. I was planning on just cycling to where I did do dips on press day so as to not fatigue my triceps.

In other news, my girlfriend discovered my nifty new dry skin patch on my back from where the bar sits when squatting.

I know, but since I am starting out (kinda) it still rubs against my spine.

You've got to squeeze your back/shoulders together to create a muscley shelf for the bar to sit on right across the spine of scapula (shoulder blade).

For the record, seeing a cute girl do back squats with good form and depth is so so hot!

The bar position for the squat was sort of iffy for me at first. It helps to think "elbows up". Pretty good video here: http://startingstrength.com/index.php/site/platform_the_squat_bar_position

My friend is does IFPA/NGA. She was down in Florida just last month.

I never really got into BB, I thought about it, a few times, for a few seconds, and it really isn't my thing.

She looks familiar. Does she live in the area? If so I think one of my friends (who is a make up artist) does her make up for events / magazine shoots because he posts his work on Facebook

Morphine have you ever tried a strength oriented training program?

From looking at your pics, you can tell a big difference in your body fat levels, nice work with that.

He does travel for shoots to do make up. Not as recent as he had been in the beginning of the year but he has gone down to Florida before to do make for a competition/shoot.

Your friend is very pretty regardless. I thought it would be funny if it was coincidence that my friend had done her make up before

Yay Will goo job! I agree with Matt - nice fat loss! You can definitely tell you leaned out.

No I've never really done any sort of strength training. Beachbody DVDs are really the first things that I've ever used as far as working out goes. I was always the fat kid growing up, so this is probably the most fit I've ever been in my life.

I'm stoked about P90X in January though.
