and what exactly do you think would happen if they started gunning down folks at the damn DNC?

lets just hear your sample scenario.

Simple scenerio.

1) The economy collapses because the dollar becomes worthless overnight,
2) People can't get food, and police don't get paid (but they usually keep working for their employer until they figure this out)
3) The United Nations is called in.
3) Ignorant people start looting, going crazy.
4) Revolutionaries start trying to take over government.

Government kills the revolutionaries and takes over mainland using military force. Hundreds and thousands are killed and the rest are taken to internment camps.

America is now under rule of the United Nations military control (Who was started, financed, and owned by the FED), they start a new currency, maybe change the name of the country, they start attacking other counties using their new power to take over the world when the other countries collapse the same way, financially, as America's did.

TAMPA — Police donned riot gear, rolled out an armored truck and issued a booming announcement from a loudspeaker Thursday.

"This has been declared an unlawful assembly," a man's voice said. "You have 10 minutes to disperse from the area."

Faux protesters continued to pelt objects at police and ram their bodies against the officers' bicycles. Police responded in force.

Several dozen downtown business leaders watched the staged confrontation at Tampa police's training center, filming with smartphones as mock protesters threw tennis balls and officers dispersed colorful smoke into the group.

The clash could be worse in less than two weeks when the Republican National Convention convenes in Tampa. Those tennis balls could be bricks. Police could be using pepper spray and firing bean bag rounds.

"I just can't fathom this happening in Tampa," said Monica Matthews, director at a downtown day care. "It's scary."

This afternoon the NYPD debuted their "all-seeing" Domain Awareness System, which syncs the city's 3,000 closed circuit camera feeds in Lower Manhattan, Midtown, and near bridges and tunnels with arrest records, 911 calls, license plate recognition technology, and even radiation detectors. Mayor Bloomberg dismissed concerns that this represented the most glaring example of Big Brother-style policing. "What you're seeing is what the private sector has used for a long time," Bloomberg said. "If you walk around with a cell phone, the cell phone company knows where you are…We're not your mom and pop's police department anymore."

So...is the government redacting and classifying in an attempt to hide something, or is the government complying with FOIA and not releasing business sensitive information (e.g., pricing)?

What like, with another police department elsewhere. Even cops who are kicked off of the force in one place routinely get hired on with another department. It's part of their "professional courtesy."

Quote :
"Sarasota, Florida Sheriff’s Deputy Dominic Fornal followed Joseph McNeal’s Jaguar out of a parking lot, then pulled McNeal over. The reason? Dep. Fornal claimed he could smell marijuana coming from the car. Even though the car was traveling at 35 mph. And the windows were up. Oh, and there was no marijuana in the car. Fornal did arrest McNeal and charge him with a DUI, though, even though McNeal’s BAC was about half the legal limit.

Fornal’s dash cam and wireless microphone clearly show McNeal, denying the search. More deputies arrived. They brought in a drug dog, which miraculously didn’t alert. They searched the car anyway, based solely on Dep. Fornal’s obvious olfactory gifts. He must have some bloodhound in him.

It was a thorough search. They went through all the stuff McNeal and his girlfriend had in the car. They made McNeal take off his shoes and socks. They made him turn the socks inside out. They ripped up the interior of McNeal’s car. They pulled down trim and fabric lining. They found nothing. They then brought in another dog. They searched a second, third, and fourth time. Still no sign of the drugs that beckoned Dep. Fornal’s nose like a fresh chess pie cooling on the neighbor’s windowsill. For some reason, Dep. Fornal then turned off his wireless microphone. Shortly thereafter—we’re a good 90 minutes into the stop, now—another deputy miraculously found a single burnt marijuana cigarette in the trunk. They had missed it during all of those prior searches. They must have been distracted by Dep. Fornal’s live mic. I mean, that’s the only explanation I can imagine.

The state’s attorney later dropped all charges against McNeal. Once he was released, McNeal was free to pick up his car, which the deputies had graciously left in a muddy field. They didn’t bother repairing the damage.

And what about Fornal?

Fornal’s supervisor, Maj. Kevin Kenney, described that search as “going a little too far,” though overall, he stands by the deputy’s actions that night. Kenney said his deputy operated entirely within department policy.

Everyone together, now: Then there’s something wrong with your goddamned policy.

On the plus side, that admission could help McNeal establish “pattern or practice” in his inevitable lawsuit.

But don’t think the sheriff’s department didn’t learn anything from all of this. In fact, they learned a pretty darned important lesson about how to prevent an embarrassing incident like this from happening again:

Fornal will no longer have a camera in his car.

Lots and lots of corruption at the RNC that TV viewers and bystanders couldn't see. Here is what happened in the case of Virginia

Quote :
"Delegate Leslie Jones (VA-2) on the delay:

“I was on that bus with Christopher Stearns, Morton Blackwell and RPV Chairman Pat Mullens. Our bus was redirected in a circular driving pattern around the Times Forum Venue four times, in heavy traffic. My opinion, this was no accidental, mistake. Our delegation was 100 percent against the rules changes. We were literally thwarted from entering the Tampa Times Forum in a timely manner…… we stopped the bus finally and we got off the bus and walked many blocks to get to the convention and our Rules committee attendees arrived just in time to have their meeting concluded……these are the facts…you decide what it means……very sad day for our republic. Power talks…….RNC to us……you lost move on…..Don’t go away mad, just go away.”"

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/09/04/3501463/police-sought-to-keep-charlotte.html

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Police arrested a Charlotte activist Sunday for a traffic violation and sought to keep him in jail during the Democratic National Convention because an officer said he is an activist on a terrorist watch list, court documents show.

Chief District Judge Lisa Bell on Monday reduced the bond for James Ian Tyson, 27, from $10,000 – an unusually high amount for driving while license revoked – to $2,500.

He was released at about 8 p.m. Monday.

Tyson’s attorney, Derek Fletcher, said during a hearing Monday that officers wanted to keep Tyson in jail to restrict his speech, and that his $10,000 cash bond was excessive.

“The state wanted to keep my client in jail during the DNC so he couldn’t help organize any protests,” Fletcher told the Observer. “I informed the judge it appeared to me that the state was trying to suppress my client from exercising his rights to speak during the DNC.”

Cops are above the law now.

Warning sign: Police dodge fines for running red lights

Police in the city of Rochester, NY will soon be exempt adhering to traffic lights. After police sped through more than 119 red lights in the past 18 months, the city has decided that the law does not apply to its police force.

It's actually all municipal employees, not just police. Only about 1/3 of the 119 tickets were specifically to police vehicles. That's compared to the 9,000 total tickets given out every month.

Cops leave Beach Park home in shambles after drug raid goes awry

In the end, police found no drugs and took the box that police said contained marijuana with them, Brown reported. He never got to see the box, but his son-in-law thought the first name on it was Oscar and some other last name. It did have their address on it.

Watching the officers fist bump and high-five each other as they tracked broken glass from the front door through the house also irritated him.

“They were upset they didn’t find anything. When I asked them who was going to pay for the door they basically said, ‘Not us’,” said Brown, who noted the door on his luxury home was valued at $3,000 some 12 years ago and the lock set was another $130 from Home Depot.

I honestly don't get it. I've travelled all around Europe, lived around New York City, lived in San Francisco and been pretty much everywhere in between... yet I've never even once been a passerby to anything like anything posted in this thread. Am I missing something? Am I just a lucky one? Maybe I'm naive.

To me this just seems like there are bad people doing a bad job in positions that require discretion. It kind of happens in every industry out there.

Are people still worrying about some revolution coming and roving gangs rolling down Six Forks Road?

Suburban New York is not Harlem. And Europe had a fairly recent history with fascism, so they're less likely to cede power to police than we are. And San Francisco? C'mon man, SF is like the yuppiest big city in America. If you took a stroll across the bay, you'd see more brutality at a BART station. Go a little further into the valley and you'd see some deteriorating suburbs with high crime rates and a significant police presence.

I agree that geniusboy is going way overboard in this thread, but you're probably pretty sheltered.
