It really didn't work for Biden, tho. He ran 4 years later, and would have faced no real chance against Hillary in 2016 anyway. He only had a shot in 2020 because the rest of the field was generally ridiculous, Pete notwithstanding.

I think a key distinction is whether they are anointed, or whether they happen to emerge on top after a competitive process.

The "Sleepy Joe" mantra is taking hold.

Kyrsten Sinema retiring at end of term. I do appreciate her not guaranteeing that Arizona flips a senate seat to the Republicans by running as an independent as previously planned. Ruben Gallego now has a chance.

What would be the point? He would obviously lose. But he has demonstrated he is susceptible to being bought, so maybe a couple of gold bars in a jacket from an anonymous GOP donor could help him set up a Republican victory.

This is pretty interesting. Kinda portends what a lot of ppl have been saying about an emerging third party with sane republicans increasingly splitting from MAGA republicans

Time will tell if they just vote with democrats more, pull more democrats to the center or split off with right-leaning democrats for an explicit 3rd party

Quote :
"What happened: The four Democrats on the House Rules Committee voted with five of the panel's establishment Republicans to advance the package of four bills to votes on the House floor.

The crossover was needed after three right-wing hardliners on the panel — Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) and Chip Roy (R-Texas) — voted against sending it to the floor.
The right-wing rebellion was enough to kill the package if Democrats did not step in."

I'd rather Joe Biden beats Trump in 2024, no matter whatever else happens
