He's always been overrated to an extent, even when he was ranked #1. Once people learned how to handle his serve, his other flaws were magnified. Still, he just took out the world's #5 player in four sets. I don't think that equates to getting "worse and worse"

Also, I'm not sure how, but Isner just keeps on winning. For someone who never seems to play with any urgency, I've gotta say I'm impressed.

Roddick is a dick but... that works for him. I think he's hilarious. Always has been my favorite player for his game and his attitude. He was right not to play where water continues to come through.

Nadal is probably going to wipe him up but... I guess you never know.

I expect most people who post on a tennis thread actually play so.... You guys know you wouldn't like an unsure surface with wet spots due to possibly slipping and hurting an ankle or groin more likely. Picture that x10 with the athleticism of the pros and you definitely could get hurt. Roddick was right to say something. And he only bitched more cause the referee ignored what he was telling him about it and trying to sneak the match through. I would be pissed too. For God's sake they tried to vacuum water from the EARTH haha.

These rounds today should be really interesting! Isner and Murray have similar styles, and Nadal and Roddick... well... I don't see how Roddick wins, but I'll be pulling for him. There is a chance to have 2 americans in the Semis... been a while for that.

lol. Ever played tennis on a wet hard court? It's a pain in the ass. You can't stop and your feet come out from under you really easily on an open stance. I support these players pushing not to play on dangeous conditions.

I think it's funny people act like tennis players can't get hurt. I've seen some ugly ass injuries on the tennis courts when i played.

For these guys, an injury can cost them millions of dollars ... or their entire career. Safe conditions should be expected.

this is like a dream tourney on the mens side.

federer djokovic semi
then isner/murray and roddick/nadal on the other quarters.

now i just need anybody but djokovic to win the title and i'll be happy

nadal or roddick winning will be the next best result.
federer or isner winning would be no problem either.

Even if Isner happens to win, he's screwed the next round. He'll have to play a 5-setter to win, just to face Nadal or Roddick (I'm betting on Nadal) tomorrow in the semis.

Obviously, he makes more money if he wins this match, so it's in his best interest to win. He's already made $225k. He'll make $450k if he makes it through this match.

If only Isner found a way to get the 1st set to a tiebreak, this would be a completely different match.

I'd never count out a big server like him out though, a serve like that is a huge advantage in any tiebreak.

^^ When you're 6'10", you have some serving advantages over other player. As Roddick once said, "You can't teach 6-foot-10."

Being a 6'10" tennis player is more of a curse than a blessing. I bet he'd be a lot better if he were half a foot shorter.

It is detrimental to his playing. My bf used to play against him. Mobility is an issue. His court coverage is great, but there are some obvious disadvantages.

Though chicks always come up to him and ask, "So, is everything on you big?"

There are some perks.

Tall people are also more prone to knee injuries and heart attacks. Their height puts more strain on their joints and organs.

I can't believe that the serve was called in. You can't blame Isner for trying to play it though, it was still a 2nd serve chance. Isner got screwed though.

His timing is great, too. Federer and Nadal are no longer unbeatable (sorry for the double negative). Federer is balancing fatherhood with tennis. Nadal's body is breaking down because his style is so physical.

Of course, Djokovic is in top form, but there's more room for players like Isner and Murray to have a shot at a major.

I think Sock is going to win a singles Grand Slam in the next two years. He's green now, but he'll be a contender by 2013, IMO.

How is Isner going to be a force? I mean, he's already dangerous because of his serve/length/power...but he'll never take it to that next level. He just doesn't have the game. He almost never breaks anyone decent (besides the mini break).

But since most of the top guys aren't in top form right now (Nadal, Federer), he has a solid chance to win a Grand Slam eventually. He took Rafa to 5 sets at the French this year.

He MIGHT sneak in a grand slam win...but that will be it. He'll still lose his share to the aging Nadal and Federer...as well as to a dominating Novak. This next year or two is his window...after that, he'll remain a level or two behind the top guys.

roddick is still such a black and white player, watching him hit a backhand against nadal he looks totally helpless, he seems like a really hard worker but for some reason he's just never been able to develop his game much

roddick's ship has sailed.

the future of american tennis is jack sock, ryan harrison, and maybe donald young

isner has a few years left at the top of his game, he didnt do himself any favors with 4 yrs at UGA
Fish and Roddick are definitely past tennis prime age. I think the future is pretty bleak for the American men

I got to give nadal credit for inventing a groundstroke that he kicks ass with, before him I've never even seen those uppercut forehand and backhands, I was barely taught open stance at all to begin with
