Just got a call looking for someone a few years out of school, has solid mobile app development experience, willing to relocate to Cali. The product is a smart phone app that provides secure access to corporate storage media on mobile devices.

haha, didn't want to start a thread on this, but just had an interview over webex, and they asked where the origin of my last name was from, and I jokingly responded with "Indian, didn't the accent give it away?" (I have zero indian accent, and probably have at least a slight southern drawl)

The guy interviewing me (British) paused and said something to the effect of "Oh... I didn't realize that, for some reason I thought you were black... er african american, well that's what *name of the previous interviewer* told me. not that it matters of course"

now they pretty much have to give me an offer.

I am supposed to hear back today from the interview I had on friday for a company I would love to work for. I have been anxious all day, could barely sleep last night. The interview went really well but I have had about 12 interviews by now and 3 of them have gone really well without job offers. I can't help but get my hopes up but I have been burned before and I am just trying to prepare myself for the rejection e-mail if I get another one. I am hoping for that phone call though. Every time my e-mail notification goes off my heart stops. The interviewer said and I quote, "You are smart, its pretty clear, and I can see that your values and background would be a good fit." That's a great sign. They also talked about the other company's I am speaking with and what would I do if I got an offer. Another great sign, but I am still unsure. Just wanted to vent, its been killing me waiting to find out. Can't do any class work right now....

I work for a financial services firm that does back office operations for independent financial advisors. Portfolio management was my main duty. I do have a little SQL knowledge as well. Anybody know of a good fit? I'm looking for a little more money.

Insane amount of politics, backstabbing, etc.

Unless the job is something you really want to help advance your career I wouldn't ever suggest working there. Thought it could have been just my department but it is kind of known that this is how it works there so I can say it with a decent level of confidence.

Hmmm, interesting, that's the first I've heard of this. For the record I'm in software, not finance.

Looking for a contact at Kayser-Roth Corporation in Greensboro. They've got a job open right now that I would be perfect for, but I'm in the middle of interview process for several other companies in CA - I'd really like to NOT move.

I've got quite a few contacts in the textile area, or if you're looking to work for Intertek (3rd party quality/audit/testing).

I just graduated with an economics degree. I have a good deal of tech support experience (I'm in charge of all software/hardware for a pharmacy I work at) and several years in the healthcare industry working as both a pharmacy tech and doing pharmacy precerts for an insurance company. I'd ideally like to get involved with Epic at either Wakemed or Duke, but I'm open to anything if anyone here has any contacts.

What are you trying to get into there? I know about the corporate/service company side but not generation or transmission work.

probably a bit late but it's a good company. I thought it was my dream job until I interned there. It is very corporate and feels like a large corporate for-profit, which wasn't for me. Working there really varies depending on what division you're in. I was in contracts and grants, which you can imagine isn't the funnest job in the world but it was laid back. My friend from HS worked in the finance group and worked his ass off, ended up getting an offer at Deloitte and took it a year and a half after RTI. They actually offered to match the DC salary in RTP and he said he regrets not taking that offer now.

RTI does have nice perks though - the campus is great with disc golf course, basketball, baseball, gym, etc. intramural sports leagues, fitness classes, and stuff like that.

Most likely you'll be in a cubicle and the buildings also vary in how new/nice they are. It's a great organization that is extremely difficult to get into, but if you can I'd say give it a shot and see if it's for you.

I am about to be out of a job, been doing physical QA/customer service on mobile devices for the past 8 years, before that retail at a small specialty automotive shop. Have a bachelors from NCSU in technology education. I am not a developer by any sort but have a decent amount of experience...

Anything out there?

I also was once a mechanic and still do odd jobs part time for a auto shop doing fabrication and builds as needed.
