IMO all smokers should try these things for obvious reasons.

I can vape all day for about 50 cents. I get 16mg juice from bluemistvaping.com for 20 cents/ml then get inexpensive PG and VG and cut it down to 6mg so I am paying about 10 cents/ml. Cartomizers are 2 dollar bucks but last at least a week.

All ingredients are food grade and known to be harmless except nicotine and even that is debatable. It may not be worse than caffeine.

You dont have to out in the cold to vape at home and do can vape pretty much anywhere in public. Plus you dont smell like shit afterwards.

Only downside I have found are withdrawal symptoms which for me are headaches and difficulty concentrating which go away after 2 days if I dont vape or instantly if I do.

So there is no reason to cause a slow and painful death for yourself just because you like nicotine.

so this is a method to ease out of smoking altogether? or just a safer alternative to smoking you plan to do long-term?

why go two days without vaping at all?

When they come out with one that works, let us know.

I've now owned two, and they were always breaking, and they never really worked the way I wanted them to. There wasn't enough vapor.

^these are the batteries and carts i use. they make LOTS of vaper and the batteries are bullet proof. you do have to careful with the carts but not as much if you get a long cone to support it.

i had to file down the cone end a little because the carts are slightly too big to fit.

^^There are plenty that work very well, but you pretty much have to build your own. I have a lot of stuff that broke or just didn't work, but doing a lot of research helps you find better quality suppliers to begin with.

^That's really similar to what I used. I used the Vision carto's and EC2's since I never really liked the ones with polyfill. The EC2's are still my favorite all around, and they're the cheapest bottom-feed tank carto out there. Easy to clean, well constructed, and lots of vapor.

What would be the best route to take for someone who 90% of the time smokes Newport 100s menthol. We have tried Blu menthol & they didn't prove an effective alternative. More coughing, different taste, etc. We only went through 4 @ $10 per e-cig

Ha that's what you used to to occasionally. Now you constantly breath through the crack pipe...getting heavy withdraw symptoms if you don't. I'm not sure either is better. I think it's safe to say you're more hooked now than you were then.

I know. I got into it about two years ago.

The thing was (and still is) I can't afford to buy random crap and tinker around with shit to get my nicotine.

If you want to tell me precisely what I should buy, please do. Otherwise, quit being an uppity prick about "researching suppliers." Seriously...are you fucking kidding me?

the 2 main reasons i didnt smoke a lot were severe health consequences and cost. ecigs take those out of the equation. And i do quit for a few days in a row every couple months so i couldnt be "hooked" that bad.

In the interest of being the nice and generally helpful person I am, I will.

To answer your questions - yes, I am absolutely serious about doing research. Read posts and reviews on ECF and watch some of the review videos on Youtube. Spending a little time doing that eliminates the need to buy every random piece of crap that you see.

I spent a fair amount buying random stuff before I started reading and watching videos, and once I had actually seen a dozen or so items reviewed, I went out and bought the ones that looked the best. I haven't had to experiment with anything but liquid since then, because the stuff I got worked as well as they said it would.

As for being a smoker, yes, I smoked for about 5 years solid, and off-and-on for a few years prior to that. I had tried quitting a couple of times and I always ended up back at it after a few days. The e-cig took a lot of getting used to, but I had to convince myself that it simply wasn't a cigarette. It was a way to satisfy the physical attributes of a cigarette, and provide most of the same stimulation that smoking did.

The act itself was the part that was harder to break than the chemical addiction simply because it has become part of my "ritual" - at work? Smoke breaks. Driving? Have a smoke. After dinner? Have a smoke. Someone else smoking? Have a smoke.

Having the e-cig gave me something to "do" whenever I would normally feel like having one. It worked for me in a little over two months. I had stepped down from 36 to 24mg liquid within a week, then to 18 next week, then to 11, and finally settled on 6mg and stuck with that for the rest of the time. I started using it in November and had completely stopped using the e-cig by the end of January.

I'll vape now very occasionally while sitting in front of the computer, but it's a couple times a week at most. I'll even have a cigarette from time to time, but I just don't have any cravings for them. I just enjoy it in moderation and don't fell "sucked in" like I used to. No withdrawal symptoms or any of that craziness.

Here is what equipment I own and and have found to be the "best":

https://www.cignot.com/product_p/egc-up1-all.htm
eGo Battery - it's big, easy to hold, and easily lasts for a couple of days with moderate to heavy use. This particular one is a "passthrough" battery. You can screw the endcap off to reveal a USB port that can be used to run or charge it from any USB source. I have three of these.

http://www.madvapes.com/eGo-Mega-Dual-Coil-Cartomizer-Flat-Tip_p_3225.html
I will say that this particular design is not quite my favorite, however it is cheap, very functional, and the easiest to use, by far. Buy at least one or two and try them first. These are designed to be "throwaways", so cleaning isn't worth discussing. Suffice it to say that they're not cleanable and you will chuck them after a week or two. The big thing to remember with this design is to always keep them wet. If you run it dry, it will burn the packing and render it garbage. There is a clear design that makes monitoring this easier, though it obviously not as aesthetically pleasing:
http://www.madvapes.com/Clear-eGo-Mega-Dual-Coil-Cartomizer-Flat-Tip_p_3305.html
I happen to like a solid tip better than the rubber one that it comes with, so you can grab one if you think that will be more to your liking:
http://www.madvapes.com/Black-Anodized-Drip-Tip-for-the-EGO-Dual-Coil_p_3253.html

http://www.madvapes.com/Bauway-510-XL-CE2-Style-Clear-Cartomizers-2-Ohm-5-pack_p_3309.html
These are my second choice, but only because they do require a syringe to fill. If you have Luer-lock syringes, they sell 20ga blunted needles that work prefect for filling these. They can be taken apart, cleaned, and reassembled fairly easily. In fact, I recommend doing so prior to using them to get the primer liquid off. Some people just deal with the off flavor for the first tank, however I take 5 minutes to clean mine. At $12/5 pack, they're heap enough to throw away, but easy enough to clean. These are my personal favorite.

http://www.madvapes.com/Vision-25ml-20-22-Ohm-Clearomizer_p_3414.html
Currently out of stock, but this one is my #3 choice. I wouldn't recommend this right off is because it is a cleanable carto, and a finicky one at that. Filling is easy and it works great. May be the best vapor production I've had on a 3.7v device. It does cost more because it's not designed to be disposable, so you'll have to be down with cleaning it regularly.

http://www.madvapes.com/510-Mega-Manual-Kit_p_3635.html
If you want something a bit more discreet, this kit is awesome. It's the same thing as above, just shrunk down. They're not much bigger than a regular cigarette, but they neither work as well or last as long as the stuff above. Not a bad compromise for something to throw in your pocket/purse before heading out to dinner or something, but not something I'd want to use all the time either. You'll get maybe 1-2 vaping sessions out of each of those tiny cartidges, where a tank on one of the eGo carto's will last you most or all of a day.

http://www.madvapes.com/510-PCC-KIT-no-box_p_3450.html
I have a kit like this. I don't use it anymore, since I don't go out with it. It is nice, because the carrying case is also a charger for your spare battery. The above kit has bigger batteries, which they don't make a case for, but this one is a little better suited to all-day use since it has a charger pack.

http://www.madvapes.com/TopVapor-USA-E-Liquid_c_212.html
Most any liquid here will be good. I've had a couple flops, but they were well-reviewed flavors, so it was probably just me. I happen to be a big fan of Key Lime Freeze, Cheesecake, and Root Beer. Pretty much all the liquid flavors are food=flavorings or made from essential oils, so it will generally taste more like a candy than the actual food. Real bananas vs. banana Runts, for example. Also, if you're getting multiple flavors and you don't have a cleanable carto, get one for each flavor and don't mix (unless you want the flavors mixed, that is).

I buy just about everything from these guys now because they're an in-state vendor with very good prices and customer support. Since they're in Charlotte, I pretty much always have my stuff the day after I order it, and never more than 2 days later. http://www.madvapes.com
Their accessory, liquid, and atomizer selection is great, unfortunately, their battery selection is mostly standard 510's (small ones). They have always done a good job for me, so I recommend them for most everything.

I hate when people think they can smoke these things in door especially at restaurants. They do have a scent, they do have a scent and can cause irritation. I wouldn't breathe something out of my mouth into some ones face and think it was okay.

great post fenderfreak, one comment i have is even a smoker could start off on 16mg juice IMO. I was a very light smoker and started on 16mg. that stuff is plenty strong. i now cut it down to 6mg and still get withdrawal even from that.

Replacing one addiction with another is certainly a common experience. I do think some people are simply more prone to the chemical addiction than others. My experience has been that I had less of a chemical addiction (physical withdrawl symptoms, shakes, irritability and mood changes, etc.) and more of a compulsion or habit-forming problem (get bored, think about smoking whenever I'm not busy, wishing I could stop being busy and go smoke, etc.). Others have had varying degrees of both addictions/compulsions.

The real difference here is that satisfying the desire to smoke, whatever the driver, can be less hazardous with an e-cig than doing so with tobacco, which contains a wide variety of carcingens and addictive substances that e-Liquid does not. The e-Liquid still contains the most potent and chemically critical addictive substance, but nicotine by itself is still relatively harmless. The e-cig can be called a "safer" alternative, only assuming you would use one or the other regardless of the circumstances.

The primary advantage of the e-cig, only behind the lowered concentration of carcinogens, is the ability to repeatably and controllably lower the concentration of nicotine to the user. The closest thing to that level of control is using nicotine delivery patches, which fail to provide the tangible fulfillment of smoking, and therefore only addresses half of the addiction.

i have found the lower the nicotine strength the more i like vaping. i have been mixing up 3.5 mg/ml the last week or so. It also makes it cheaper as you can get PG for less than 2 cents a ml on amazon if you buy a quart.

Quote :
"Over the past decade, new research has taught us more about how nicotine affects the brain and the body. Some of it is good news -- for example, a lower incidence of Alzheimer's disease in smokers. Research has pointed to a compound called acetylcholine as the reason. Nicotine is structurally similar to acetylcholine, a naturally-occurring compound that serves as a neurotransmitter. Nicotine binds to nerve receptors and makes nerve cells fire more frequently. In one study, a group of Alzheimer's patients were given nicotine patches, while another received a placebo. Those with nicotine patches maintained their cognitive abilities longer and sometimes even recovered lost cognitive function. A follow-up study indicated that nicotine may also boost cognitive abilities in elderly people who aren't suffering from Alzheimer's but who are experiencing the typical mental decline associated with old age.

In 2000, a study performed at Stanford revealed surprising results about nicotine's effects on blood vessels. Contrary to popular opinion, the study showed that nicotine actually boosts the growth of new blood vessels. The discovery may lead to new treatments for diabetes. Many people with severe diabetes experience poor circulation, which can lead to gangrene and ultimately, limb amputation.

In 2006, Duke scientists found that people with depression who were treated with nicotine patches reported a decrease in their depressive feelings. The results were perhaps not surprising for a drug associated with imparting a "buzz." However, the research also showed a direct link between nicotine and an increase in the release of dopamine and serotonin, two vital neurotransmitters. A lack of dopamine or serotonin is a common cause of depression."

i have been using a Blu for about 3 months now, after quitting cigarettes cold turkey back in the Spring.

I like it, it's cheaper, i don't smell like smoke all the time, and i'm more productive because of it.

I smoked for 10 years and have been able to give it up without much trouble due to E-cigs. It's a GREAT alternative.

I haven't been able to smoke a cigarette for nearly two years now without feeling nauseated. It could just be a coincidence but it seemed to be around the same time that fire safe cigarette sales became required in North Carolina.
The fire safe cigarettes will burn out in a minute or so if not inhaled. I remember getting frustrated at my cigarettes burning out more often than I was used to and have to smoke them faster.
The higher level of chemicals cause an increase of side effects including Nausea, Sores in mouth and throat, Dry throat, constant headaches, extreme coughing, tightness in the chest, vomiting, body aches, pain in the abdomen and respiratory conditions including asthma and bronchitis.
I would also argue that cigarettes smell worse now than they used to.

I like the electronic cigarettes. I haven't taken up smoking them since I have already quit but I will smoke one every now and then if its available. I don't think I would ever go back to smoking cigarettes unless I rolled my own but there are still health related problems with the tobacco.

my current recipe for 4mg juice that cost about 5 cents/ml:

1ml peppermint extract
2ml 4.8% nicotine in pg
15ml pg
6ml vg

this is what I've been carrying around for the last couple months

I'm sure everyone here will shit on the gas station brands but I'm relatively new to e-cigs (this is probably my fourth or fifth one, all the disposable gas station type) but I don't really know what I'm missing so it's no big deal. I was pretty impressed with Logic's customer service; I bought a "Cuban" and dropped it (but not from very high) within a couple hours, quit working. I sent them an email, mailed in the defective/broken one and they sent me a new one. +1 Logic

^I went with a Volt:

http://smokelessimage.com/

Most reviews seem to agree it's not the strongest you can find at vapor production, but good for a beginner kit. Found a promo code for 15% off via Google which helped. I've been using the regular Volt for a couple of months now (and now their "X2" model) and don't really have any complaints.

^^the upfront costs can be 50 dollars or so but after that its less than a dollar a day so you get your money back quickly if you are a regular smoker. you dont have to buy a "kit" to start. i still suggest the batteries and carts i posted in the 5th post of this thread and getting juice from bluemistvaping.com or making your own like i do.

Is anyone using the "Inferno?" My wife got it for me and I've been using it and it has helped me cut back on smoking. From time to time though, it can be hard to get any vapor at all, though I do feel the hit.

Is there something I am doing wrong?
