Ah that I did not know. Thanks Noen. I wasn't sure which way would be better.

How's the wireless strength for it? At our company we're wireless, but I'm in a office that was a former x-ray room. So the signal for my Samsung Focus is a little iffy sometimes, but my wife's laptop doesn't have an issue. I'm guessing the antenna has to be better than my cell phone's.

I found the wireless to be comparable to our laptops and much better than our other tablets and phones. Its on par with the iPad in terms of strength and range. But its all very subjective opinion.

I'm going to wait a bit. Was going to pick it up after Christmas, but saw a few articles saying there was a price cut coming. They said it might have something to do with CES in January and the Mobile show in Spain this February. So I might wait a bit and see what happens. It's not exactly a huge need, just something to use while at work and at home to keep me out of trouble. So to wait a month or two for a $40 or $50 price drop isn't a bad thing I think.

I was gifted the 32gb model and absolutely love it, been using it nonstop. It just seems like an amazing quality for the price. I've had an iPad before (or rather, access to one) but this is my first personally owned tablet. If anyone has some advice/suggestions for uses I might not think of.

Only disappointment is the Blurex case I bought on Amazon. It has a defect that I should have seen in the reviews. Perfect case until you find out the magnet that triggers auto sleep works when you flip the cover back and it touches the back of the tablet. Not sure how to fix besides cutting the magnet out of the case.

I got the 16GB version as a Christmas present for my wife, and I must say I was impressed with the polish of both hardware and UI compared to other tablets I have tried. Even packaging looked uber classy. Google must have really put the quality control in place before they released they put their name on Asus hardware. 7'' form factor and plastic body makes it much easier to hold than my iPad 3. It has some apps that are not accessible to iOS, like the DSLR controller, the uTorrent etc. UI is still not quite as fluid and display is not quite as good as the retina iPad, but it's kind of apples to oranges (I hear nexus 10 has higher pixel density than iPad, don't know how it compares on color rendering and brightness). I'm still prefer iPad to Nexus 7 for my photo stuff and magazine reading, but for facebooking and web browsing is just as good and in some respects even better. Dollar for dollar, probably best tablet out there.

From the reviews I have read on the Nexus 10, the 2560x1600 display's only strong point against the iPad's Retina display is the pixel density. Everything else, the iPad's display is superior. And it's not like this is a computer monitor where a higher resolution=more screen space. To me, you eventually reach a point where it doesn't even matter anymore, and I think the iPad's display is at that point. The Nexus 10, while it may be marginally more sharper, most people probably wouldn't really be able to tell.

I've had my Nexus 7 for two months now and have had no problems with the speaker. I did have a problem getting my Win 7 PC to recognize the N7 when I hooked up the USB. Turns out only a "OTG" cable will work if you want to do more than charge it.

I'd heard the speakers were bad but mine seem pretty damn loud. Didn't really concern me anyway since I always use earbuds.

downgrading my iPad 3, I can't decide if I want this or the iPad mini. Price isn't really an issue, and I like that my iPad apps will transfer but I think it would be cool to have the android option. Any opinions?

^^Before my screen cracked, I preferred the Nexus 7 1000x more than my iPad. The Mini is piece of garbage compared to the Nexus 7.

I've used my 7 exclusively (read no laptop/ipad/etc.) on 4 flights of over 15 hours each over the past 6 weeks. Experience continues to be excellent sans one hiccup with Google Play Books where my book got deleted with no confirmation modal or anything. Battery life and screen both great. Not to mention I was able to VPN into a US server to get the SI Swimsuit Issue the day of issue in a country where such things aren't exactly found. Made that particular flight much more enjoyable. #NexusFTW

I'll start out with my my main reason for posting: any particular recommendation on cases out there?

I recently got my wife a Nexus 7 and she loves it. She still doesn't have a smart phone (she is on an old school verizon plan with unlimited minutes and texts for like $30 total or something so she hasn't switched) and her 7 year old laptop recently died so we decided to go the nexus route instead of a new laptop for now.

I had been planning to get her a Kindle just as a reader anyway, but with the death of her laptop, it made sense to try and go with an all-in-one device for the price. We still have a desktop for the few times she does need the office suite and adobe professional (a freelance job she does stuff for a couple times a month). So far she has really liked it and doesn't seem to feel she needs a dedicated laptop at the moment. The only downside for now is that she is locked in to doing her freelance work only at our house whereas before she could do her freelance work out of town if she got an assignment since she always brought her laptop. Not sure that there is any real substitute for Adobe Professional that exists on a Nexus 7. (iannotate is an option, but I just don't know that it will be acceptable)

Would it be possible to use to use something like Splashtop to remote into the desktop while she's out of town? Isn't free to access computers outside of your local network but think it's only $1.99/mo so she could just activate it when she needed it

I will have to look into that. I've never looked into or used and remote computing apps through a tablet. We usually leave that desktop off or in sleep mode since it does not get used frequently, but arrangements could be made to leave it on if she was expecting to receive something.

Thanks for the thought. It at least gives me something else to research. If nothing else, it could possibly even give her an option to utilize her tablet in the living room or upstairs bonus room while copy-editing at home (which is where she did it with her laptop with the TV on in the background) versus being locked to the desktop in the guest bedroom.

yeah, I pretty much solely use my Nexus 10 when at home and just remote into my laptop if I need to do anything major. Sure beats having a hot laptop on your lap. Believe there's 2 versions: Splashtop 2 and Splashtop Remote Desktop. The latter allows you to just pay $4.99 up front and access any computer but believe they're eventually going to phase that out in favor of of Splashtop 2 which is free to download but requires a monthly/yearly subscription fee for external computers.

by external computers, do you mean if we're out someplace with wifi or at someone else's house versus just being at home on the same network?

and yeah you're right. I hadn't really thought of using "remote" computing at home with a tablet like this but she might actually find that pretty useful.

cool. I looked at that case and it seemed like it had great reviews except that a lot of people recently were saying that the case put their nexus in sleep mode when it was fully opened.

Any issues with this for you?

Seems really common with the later purchases, although it sounds like the mod to correct it is pretty easy.

^^^ yeah, it's only free to access computers on your local network. I just use PhoneMyPC (way overpriced now at $14.99) or regular Splashtop ($4.99) when I'm not local. There are free options that use RDP like 2X but the quality is a lot less imo.

seems like most of the comments about that were this spring/early summer. Most people were suspecting the Nexus internals changed slightly. Seemed like people were suggesting cutting the magnet out, cutting it to be smaller, and reinserting it.

I haven the Blurex case, I'm typing on my Nexus 7 with it right now. I got both in December and YES the magnet. Makes it auto sleep when the cover folds over for me. You can exacto knife it out, but I just flipped my Nexus instead and it works. Speakers don't line up with opening, but I almost always use earphones anyway.

haha nah. we don't really need a 2nd one currently and the one that I got for my wife is plenty for what she needs. If I got back out of town for Phase II of my project (which is looking like early next year and not later this year now) I will consider one so that I have a tablet as well for easier Skype chats. This new one is very nice but not worth the extra money to us at the moment.

Well if you change your mind or if someone else wants it let me know. I was thinking about giving it to my mom, but if she doesn't want it, I'll sell it, the case I bought for it, and the official dock for fairly cheap after my new nexus 7 comes on say... monday/tuesday.

^Goddamnit I'm wanting to do that same.

I will probably give my Nexus 7 to my Dad, who is slightly envious of it (he has my old first gen Nook Color which obviously doesn't hold a candle to the current market). New Nexus 7 looks fantastic and I've very much like to pick one up, but would either sell my current or find a home for it.

Woops apologies for the double post earlier.

After a day with the Nexus 7 I can say it's pretty great. The screen is fantastic and it's the brightness screen I've seen in a while. It's much brighter than my GF's iPad mini and reading is fantastic on it.

top/bottom bezels are pretty big but the idea is you hold it in landscape mode for the majority of use. The stereo speakers are also a big improvement for gaming.

Going to use it for a couple weeks and see if it compliments my Note 2 and if not return it.

Picked up one of the 32gb models. Love it. Should have waited a day for tax free weekend but maybe I'll stop by best buy and see if they can give me my $18 back. Either way, I love it so far and its such an upgrade from the asus transformer tf101 i was using. Anyone have any experience using slimport hdmi out or any recommendations for the newly utilized bluetooth functionality (havent read up on it too much)

I'm pretty sure the Nexus 7 [still] doesn't support any type of HDMI out or MHL video output. I'm not sure though. I can't find a definitive answer online.
