^^

now answer my question on the last page about the BoA card.

ALSO I have a girlfriend who is interested in getting her first "rewards" card (to my prodding - all she uses right now is a debit and SOMETIMES a crappy 5/3 MC). Not sure where I should lead her.

Costco Amex is always a good recommendation (if you shop at Costco). It's a free Amex. If you want a cash back card. For points the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is a good all round beginner points card. Hard to beat it.

^^Is that just cause you use Suntrust Debit a lot - or they have really good promotional offers?

They had a 30K offer when I first got the card. Not the best out there by far, but one of the few debit reward cards left out there.

^^I thought the other bennies were decent, but I'm open to suggestions of other current good offers for general spending (I currently use my delta AMEX for nearly everything I can, but I'm realizing that I could be getting rewarded much more handsomely elsewhere and just keep that for the Delta benefits)

Delta miles suck. I only accrue them via the debit card.

So I got the denial for my Southwest Business card I knew was coming. I'm hoping I can call the Chase redemption line and reallocate some credit limits to this new card...but it's not looking good. What do you all think? Any strategies you care to share?

There are different cards that do 3-6% on groceries, 5% on gas, 5% on restaurants/amazon etc...all do 1% on everything else. Just depends on what you're looking for.

^ How do you even use a debit card when you've got so much spending to do to earn sign up bonuses? Is your manufactured spend game so good that you can use your debit for most things?

It was such a pain in the ass. I'm so glad this last round the business cards went through fine and I only had to call the personal line to get that southwest approved.

Be prepared to talk about what your business does, its age, its net profits/losses per years, it's gross profits/losses per year. No joke...

I do not technically have a business...the reason I was denied was because I already have 2 other business cards, 1 of which is with Chase already...so I don't think they were buying my story

I'll apply again next time after I close a couple cards and get the pass...I just won't have it for the maximum amount of time

What did you tell them your business's income was?

Though in the end, I probably don't have much of a chance here. I got the legendary trifecta when they listed the reasons for denial: Too many recent requests for credit, Not enough time has passed since the last account you opened with us, and You already have the maximum amount of credit we can offer you. I can mitigate the last one by moving some credit lines around, but I can't really do much about the first two

That's a good offer...many 50k Chase offers involve a $5k spend, and Chase UR points are quite valuable.

I've got a little over 50k Amex points, but it seems impossible to use Delta miles and get a good rate (I've got 45k of those in addition). Should I just sell my Amex points? I saw one site that would start at $650 for them...anyone gotten better or know of a better way to use them than Delta...or know a good way to use them on Delta?

$875 is pretty good...I'll probably just do that

Amex points can transfer to Delta miles...there aren't very many other options that are things I do/would use, so that's why I mention Delta

Thinking about trying Bruce after seeing all the recs on here. I've got Delta, Amex, and Marriott points to sell.

How exactly does the process work? Can somebody please pm me with a quick run through and your name if a referral is still something he does?

Bruce offered me $825 for 57k...I told him I read someone had gotten $875 for 50k and asked for the same rate...he responded that he couldn't do that and that rate didn't come from him

maybe I'm talking to the wrong Bruce? This is info@buyingmiles.net

Sorry went back through emails - final offer from him was $840 for 55k

^No, I just think he is more desperate now. I wonder if there wasn't a huge supply of those points at the time due to that great Amex Gold card

He is just a regular person, but on the internet, he puts on his robe and wizard hat and sells your points to travel agencies for more than he paid you (I believe that's what he does with them at least)

He buys them by putting money in your paypal, and then going in and transferring your points to his account

^^No. He can't always transfers - sometimes he has to book out of your account. Also - i think he does a lot of the booking and selling himself

I'm tossing around the idea of upgrading my mileage plus visa to the mileage plus explorer card. Do any of you know if a straight upgrade will net the same initial bonus (30k miles i believe) as a new signup?
