Chase Sapphire Reserve upping the annual fee to $550.

I like the benefits, but this might be a little too high for me.

Does the travel reimbursement amount change? Probably not worth it for me to stay if not, extra $150 probably makes another card more competitive

^No but you get a $60 (I think) annual credit for DoorDash for the next two years and some free Lyft membership that saves you like 15% on every ride.

I'll definitely need to change then, I would still be net positive on benefits but not by enough to beat other cards

Assuming I saved ~$30 on DoorDash stuff (delivery, discount, etc) plus the $60 in credit plus the extra Chase points (cash value) plus 15% off Lyft yeah just under $150.

Requires $275 spend on Lyft not $600.

Was on vacation + work trip.

I should have clarified. The Chase Reserve gets you x3 on travel but the new Lyft Pink Reserve deal gets you 10x points on all Lyft rides. So you get the initial 15% discount on all rides then 10x points on what you spent. Plus the Pink benefits are nice especially of you fly a lot as you get priority pickup. You also get 3 free 30 minute scooter rides a month which is fun.

I'd think the opposite. Stuff is so cheap it's almost better to pay out of pocket.

I'm eyeing the chase biz 100k bonus after I finish the one above now that I can finally get chase cards.

May have to put my taxes on this card since I'm still way off from $7,500 at this point.

Chase just sent me a letter that since I haven't been using the card heavily the past year (i switched to amex as my daily driver) they're cutting my limit in half. Not something I need when I'm in the middle of closing on a new house.

What is everyone's thoughts on Amazon Visa vs. Amazon Amex?!?!?!?!

Seems like a lot of our household spending is on Amazon.com these days due to corona virus and we got a new boat.

I have two company credit cards and am trying to figure out which one offers better rewards.

1) American Express Business
2) Chase Ink

We run all of our expenses through these for easier tracking. I can run them through either one but did not know which one has a better points program. We have banked about 55k points on the Amex and 121k points on the Chase card.

Also trying to figure out the best way to spend the points or just keep accumulating. Normally that would be on Travel but that kind of sucks at the moment.

David0603 I will use your link to get the Chase card for my vacation rental biz next time there is a good promo going.

Honestly, I've hardly used any of my amex points. I've transferred a few to air france to use on delta and then I used their 35% Pay With Points rebate for Business Platinum cardholders, which used to be 50% iirc. They have some good asia transfer partners, but I've yet to visit.

With chase you have Southwest which is great for domestic, but you can also use them on United and of course all their partners like Lufthansa. I also love using them at a nice Hyatt, although there are so many more Hiltons out there I end up staying there the majority of the time. I think you can also get 1.5 cents per point through the portal if you have the reserve.

Back at it!

75K UR - Chase Business $7500 spend
40k + $200 - BOA Alaskan Airlines Business $2000 spend

Both were a pain in the ass to get, especially the second one which required a fucking CD. A CD!?!?!?!

I'm still under 5/24 after taking off all of 2019 just so I could get the companion pass March of 2020

I'll probably do citi thank you points next quarter, an Alaskan Airlines personal after that, and then maybe that will be a cool down period long enough that AMEX isn't pissed at me any more.

"Judge Robert Goeke’s decision last month largely affirmed longstanding Internal Revenue Service practice, which says credit-card rewards are usually nontaxable rebates [Anikeev v. Commissioner, T.C. Memo. 2021-23 (Feb. 23, 2021)]. In other words, buying a pair of shoes for $100 and getting a 5% reward is really a $95 purchase, not $5 of income."

I'll have a significant tax bill this year...sold some rental property, plus some STCG/options premiums.

How'd you pay with a CC? I've never done that before.

Looks like you incur a ~2% fee by paying with CC. I assume there's no way around that?

I guess if I paid with my Chase Freedom Unlimited and got 1.5% rewards, then transferred to the Sapphire Reserve to redeem for 1.5x on travel, that would effectively be 2.25%, which would be above the 1.9x% fee, but not worth the few bucks I'd come out ahead, considering that I'd have to use it on travel.

Am I missing something? Have you guys cracked the code some other way?

If I need an additional $5k spend to get a $750 bonus then it's def worth the fee.

Nah, long term gains when a company was purchased and I got stock and cash as a result of this purchase in addition to making more money last year, but only paying slightly higher taxes.

saw an ad for the citi custom cash card. 5% cash back on your top spend category (grocery, gas station, home improvement, etc), 1% cash back on everything else. so sorta similar to chase freedom in that regard. limits the 5% cash back to just first $500 spent/month (i think chase freedom is $1500/quarter, so that's basically the same thing). no annual fee, and sign up offer of $200 cash back after spending $750 in first 3 months.

i pretty much just use cash back rewards, don't do much with the travel rewards...so i may get this and just use it exclusively for my top spending thing each month (probably groceries on an average month).

my everyday card is the citi double cash and then i use the chase freedom for the rotating categories.

anyways, i just typed all that out and then googled the chase freedom only to realize it isn't even open to new applicants anymore...they have freedom unlimited and freedom flex now. so i should probably upgrade my old freedom now.

^^ Even if you max out the spending every month it's still a multi year break even period compared with the sapphire which give you a $1,000 bonus after spending $4,000 in 3 months.

I had the sapphire a few years back to get the spending bonus. And then downgraded it to the freedom to avoid the annual fee after the first year. It’s been a while so I don’t remember exactly, but I guess I determined it wasn’t worth the annual fee for me. Seems like travel is one of its better benefits, and we really don’t travel much. Think it was around 2018 I had the sapphire. So I’m thinking I wouldn’t be eligible for the sign up bonus.

The BoA card with the platinum honors gets 2.625% on any purchase. Paying taxes for small business owners at 1.9-2.2%, well, you get it, that's a nice spread.

Chase gives pretty nice referral bonuses on most cards if anyone is interested in splitting, PM me.

I'm at a point where I just put travel and restaurants on my Sapphire, and everything else on my Freedom Unlimited, then transfer all the points to the Sapphire. I think I'm up to 190-something thousand now (all my travel plans died from COVID, so I racked up points and didn't use any.)

I also have an IHG card and a Marriott card through Chase. Got 'em for the sign-on bonus; keep 'em for the free nights.

I generally don't pay any fees on Chase cards, due to being in the USMC Reserves.

AMEX platinum should waive the fees for you too, right?

I wouldn't unless you really need the cash. I'm sitting on ~400k but you could easily burn through a few hundred k on a really nice trip and with all the xfer partners there would have to be multiple devaluations for me to regret not cashing out.

I’ll have to check out AmEx Platinum.

I’ve never looked much into partner transfers. I figured that would require so much research that it wouldn’t be worth it—that 1.5x in the Chase travel portal would be good in most cases

Wasn't sure if you were getting 1.25 or 1.5.
Redemptions like hyatt are pretty simple and straightforward.
Biz class int flights require a bit more work, but you just simply search until you find a low fare, xfer the pts and then book.
