I am not modest and I will show what I have gotten from links from you guys so you can help me out.

Credit Summary
Your Equifax Credit Summary highlights the information in your credit file that is most important in determining your credit standing by distilling key credit information into one easy-to-read summary.

Accounts

Lenders usually take a positive view of individuals with a range of credit accounts - car loan, credit cards, mortgage, etc. - that have a record of timely payments. However, a high debt to credit ratio on certain types of revolving (credit card) accounts and installment loans will typically have a negative impact.

Other 0 $0 N/A N/A N/A $0 0
Total 3 $61,450 $0 $58,494 105% $769 3
Debt by Account Type Debt to Credit Ratio by Account Type

Account Age

Usually, it is a good idea to keep your oldest credit account open, as a high average account age generally demonstrates stability to lenders. Also, especially if you have been managing credit for a short time, opening many new accounts will lower your average account age and may have a negative impact.

Length of Credit History 2009 Years, 3 Months
Average Account Age 5 Years, 10 Months
Oldest Account PLAINS COMMERCE BANK (Opened 10/01/2003)
Most Recent Account CAPITAL ONE AUTO FIN (Opened 10/03/2011)
Inquiries - Requests for your Credit History

Numerous inquires on your credit file for new credit may cause you to appear risky to lenders, so it is usually better to only seek new credit when you need it. Typically, lenders distinguish between inquiries for a single loan and many new loans in part by the length of time over which the inquiries occur. So, when rate shopping for a loan it's a good idea to do it within a focused period of time.

Inquiries in the Last 2 Years 8
Most Recent Inquiry BB&T (03/20/12)
Potentially Negative Information

Late payments, collections and public records can have a negative impact on your credit standing. The more severe and recent they are, the more negative the potential impact might be.

Did your education loan get sent to collections? Whatever you have in collections will tank your score like a brick. Doesn't matter if it's $20 or $20k.

Agreed, and since that only happened in '08 it's going to take some time for your score to rebound.

the thing is I believe the collections is an apartment complex here in Raleigh which I never lived in 2007-2008, just spring an dsummer of 07 yet I think they have me in some type of collections even though I never physically lived there. 3,000 dollars. I refuse to pay. Other than that nothing...is that whats keeping me at 613?! I listened to you guys advice and I am going to apply for this...

I think you need to take that apt collection very seriously instead of blowing it off. If you are correct and it is a mistake you can dispute the item and get it removed from your credit report. That could drastically change your score quickly. If it is legitimate then you need to figure out a way to pay it off or at least work with the apt or collections on a payment plan. As you have found out, credit is a very important factor in many purchases. You need to take it very seriously.

I would send like 30,000 dispute letters before I even entertained paying that. My wife had one of those and I got it deleted.

I agree with wahoowa You can't just ignore this. Is it possible you could have forgotten to give them notice and your lease rolled over for another 6 months or maybe you cosigned for someone else who remained living there? At the very least you should contact them to see exactly what the charges are for. Worse comes to worst you should negotiate payment. That $3,000 is paltry in comparison to the additional money you're going to have to pay for loans down the road due to higher interest rates.

Just paying the collection could ding your score more as it will make it newer and stay on your credit report longer. As is now, it would only be there for 7 1/2 years from the first date you were delinquent (usually listed on credit report). Definitely dispute it (in writing) with each Credit Reporting Agency that has it listed as the collection agency may have already written it off and won't validate in which case it must be deleted from your report. If it's valid and you are going to pay, try to negotiate a pay for delete with the collection agency.

from what he posted I would just leave it alone as it was 2008. Will be gone in the next 24 months or keep disputing it online. Seems about right yeah?

hmm. I went ahead and applied for Chase Sapphire Preferred a month and a half after applying for Chase Freedom. I got a Further Review notice, but I could immediately see the CSP card on my Chase and Ultimate Rewards account pages. It even let me transfer one point from my Freedom to the CSP. Hopefully, that means I'm good.

For those of you that have called reconsideration lines, do you do it upon the Further Review notice when applying or do you wait for a flat out denial letter?

I called a couple hours after I applied for the Chase Ink Plus just asking if they needed any further information since it said it required further review. You can check the application status using 1-800-432-3117 and believe 1-888-245-0625 is the recon line for personal accounts.

Just got one of these puppies.

It is made of metal and has some kind of chip on it.

Got a bunch of free nights at Marriott chain hotels and resorts with it, my wife travels on business all the time and if they will let her use this and put it on her expense report VS. using her company card we will probably never pay for a hotel room again.

Not sure if anywhere in the US currently uses the chip technology but a lot of places overseas use it instead of the usual magnetic strip for transactions.

Yeah, kind of annoying about the two browser, thing since I was just about to apply for two hiltons. Guess I'll go ahead and get one now and I'll be able to get another one in 65 days iirc.

For those of you concerned about churning affecting your score, I had a score of 749 Jan 1. The following week I opened 3 new cards and closed 1 old card and my score dipped to 708. Today I just checked and my score is back up to 753.

I churned Starwood last year, currently Hilton, any recommendations for the next hotel I go after?
I was eyeing Hyatt. They only charge 22,000 for their top tier hotel and you can get 50,000 pts through the Chase offer.

^It depends where you want to go. My wife just signed up for the Chase Hyatt card for our trip to Kauai later this year. The Chase Fairmont card also sounds like a decent deal if they have a hotel where you would like to travel. For travel to Europe the Club Carlson looks like it could be worthwhile.

http://boardingarea.com/blogs/frequentmiler/2012/12/04/club-carlson-rocks-my-world/

Is anyone planning on trying to churn the Barclays US Air card for AA miles as many times as possible prior to the (possible) merger? Has anyone successfully done so to date? If so, how long did you wait between applications and did you close the previous card?

Guess I am about to tell Capital One to go jump in a lake cesspool.

Does it matter how old the closed account is? The one I want to close is my oldest one on file, they raised my APR to the penalty rate and added a "monthly account member fee" back in 2008 when I was about to go out of business and some stuff got messed up. All of the old accounts have been cleared up, the negative info deleted, and my scores have recovered. I have other cards with much better terms now but was scared of taking a hit by closing this one.

Eugh. I have a capital one too as my oldest, and I'd never close it. WTF is this monthly account member fee? I think my limit is something stupid low like 1K or something. I never use it.

He's banking on the fact that if the merger happens, the miles will be converted.

The barclays link above has expired, here's a similar deal:
http://www.nflextrapoints.com/xlvii
same $400 cashback, but you have to spend $2,500 in 90 days. I just applied for it because I like money.

Your score will go down after a hard inquiry and it will lower your avg account age, but mine seems to rebound after the hit fairly quickly. Just be sure to pay it off.

50K Membership Rewards points for Delta Gold card:

https://www.creditcards.com/cardmatch

Minimum $1000 spend in 3 months gets you 50k MR points.
Annual fee of $175 waived for first year.

Fill out info here (no need to enter SSN, just name and address) then the offer should show up to click through, was the first link shown for me. Don't know if there's a direct link and this probably won't last long. It's not targeted like some of the other offers I've seen so if you qualify it should be there.

Says you cannot have had a previous Premier Gold in last 12 months to get the bonus.
