IMO, the Islamic faith is much easier to abuse and use as an excuse for murder than Christianity is.

I don't think it's the faith itself so much as the leadership combined with a critical mass of population who are poor, uneducated, and subordinate.

Historically, this combination has had the same result time and time again. The crusades, Nazi Germany, and sub-saharan Africa pretty much all fall into this bucket.

Religion is probably the easiest device to use to control a population, but as evidenced by Nazi Germany, it isn't the only one.
