only complaint so far is that i'd like to see him sharpen up the little things. he can be a good rebounder but needs to make a consistent effort in that respect. also needs defensive work. things you'd expect out of a freshman but if he's going to score like this he's not going to have work on to earn playing time

I'd like to see us get him to operate on the block. We need another option when Leslie goes out. Howell isn't cutting it.

and yea, we need to run plays for him. a comeback was possible if we gave him the ball early in the 2nd half instead of having our back ups jack 3s

right now he mostly gets garbage baskets and transition points. which is great, but we need a go to player when leslie is out

IMO, he's by far the best nba prospect on the roster. He has the best size and scoring ability.

his game is really smooth. doesn't play like a freshman at all. wouldn't be surprised at all if he left after a year.

-1 credibility/appreciation for being 7/18 in FT for the year for a whopping 38.9%....i know he'll improve it, but that's bad for a shooter as good as him.

Quote :
""7. T.J. Warren, F, North Carolina State Wolfpack
Warren simply hasn't missed in the early going, a fact that Mark Gottfried has recognized by giving his budding star starts in each of the Wolfpack's past two games. The 6-8 freshman has the luxury of playing alongside established stars like C.J. Leslie and Richard Howell, but in any setting making 69 percent of your 2s as a high-volume scorer is remarkable. (That 69 percent shooting includes Warren's rather un-Warren-like 1-of-5 performance Tuesday night against Connecticut at Madison Square Garden.) It's all the more remarkable when you reflect that to this point Warren has been shuttled back and forth between the small and power forward positions, often to compensate for foul trouble incurred by Leslie and/or Howell. Then again, if his 43 percent shooting at the line persists, opponents will be correctly eager to foul Warren late in close games -- or any other time.""

hopefully he'll settle-in at the FT line

"FWIW, TJ Warren's o-rating is a ludicrous 136.1 (#18 in the nation), with the #2 eFG% and the 41st lowest TO%. Realistically, he's the best freshman in the country though he might not get quite the exposure he needs to win national awards."

Pretty sure aanthony bennett is having an even better year and has NROY all but locked up. No knock to TJ though.

Am I wrong? I sure would love for us to have a ROY.

I'm thinking his layoff this summer has affected him, but all preseason reports on him were really positive so who knows..

TJ wins Rookie of the week for a second time

Quote :
"In being named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, Warren came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points, leading NC State to a 84-62 win over Norfolk State Saturday. The Durham, N.C., guard was 9-for-11 from the floor (.818), including hitting 2-for-2 from 3-point range for his best shooting performance of the season. In addition to leading the Wolfpack in scoring for the fourth time this season, he also pulled down five rebounds and had two steals in 28 minutes of action.

On the year, Warren leads all ACC freshmen in scoring (14.6) and is shooting .691 from the field, which leads the ACC and ranks third nationally."

This kid is unbelievable.

Hilarious to see all that hype behind Harrison Barnes and how he was a pure scorer... Warren shits all over Barnes as a scorer.

no defense? so you're saying he's good to go pro after this year?

but seriously, this team...when they actually want to play defense...is really good

the defense in the NBA in my opinion is at an all-time high. No defense might have been true in the 80's, but teams today are extremely good at defense.

The rotations are crisp and there are a plethora of shot blockers and lockdown defenders...

I know the defensive efficiency ratings were higher in the 90's, but that was more of a function of the way the games were officiated and the "1 on 1" mentality a lot of players had at that time. Passing was an afterthought during that era.

The college game on the other hand... the defense is very poor. Blown assignments, rotations, wide open jumpers, easy dunks/layups, etc... I blame the AAU and flawed recruiting rankings for the fact that none of these kids seem to come into college knowing how to play any defense...

that play Leslie had where he jumped over (whats his name white dude) then his 2nd effort got the block was the type of defense they play in the NBA

maybe thats the type of defense javale mcgee plays

the good teams are very sound on D. when they overplay someone like that the guy going up for the lay up isnt trevor ferguson's cousin, it's derrick rose or dwyane wade.

if the celtics drafted anyone from our team i would be legitimately scared for their life having to practice with kevin garnett.

Quote :
"T.J. Warren, the sixth man
Jeniece Jamison, Sports Editor

Head coach Mark Gottfried said the Wolfpack has six starters on its roster. One of which is freshman forward T.J. Warren.

“I kind of tell our guys we have six starters,” Gottfried said. “Although he’s not in the lineup I consider him like a starter. It’s maybe something we look at from time to time. But, I think he’s done a good job.”

Warren is currently the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.4 points per game, and is second on the team in field goal percentage. For his first time coming off the bench in his career, Warren is certainly making use of every opportunity he gets.
Gottfried said Warren’s performance has fallen somewhere between a surprise and according to expectations.
“Part of us knew how talented he was,” Gottfried said. “But, you’re never sure of how quickly a freshman will adapt. I think he’s done a great job. It’s really not that surprising to me though.”
The logical evolution of every sixth man who is contributing beyond expectations is to make the jump into the starting lineup, but Warren’s is concerned with being able to contribute to the team’s success.
“Coming off the bench is kind of weird because I’ve never come off the bench in my life,” Warren said. “Coming off the bench, I’m just trying to be productive and just be as efficient as possible for me and the team.”

According to Warren, he knew he was going to be in a position to make an impact on the program immediately, even while playing with Leslie, the preseason ACC Player of the Year, and a talent-packed group of upperclassmen.

“With those guys everyone’s going to key on them,” Warren said. “I just wanted to come in and score and do whatever it takes to win.

“Coming in I knew I was going to have a role. I just wanted to come in and work hard every day to show I’m worthy. It’s been working out for me so far, so I’m pretty proud of that.”

Gottfried said otherwise. In terms of the offense opening up, he said it’s all been attributed to his talent, not adverted attention from the defense.

“Not necessarily,” Gottfried said. “I think he’s a very talented offensive player. He has a knack for it. I don’t think that had anything to do with it. I think that’s just the way he is.”

Aside from Gottfried, Warren said Howell and Brown have been the most helpful in his transition to college basketball. Now, with Georgia Tech and Tobacco Road rival Duke on the horizon at the cusp of a difficult ACC schedule, Warren said utilizing his basketball IQ will be key in his success on the floor.

According to Gottfried, the best thing about Warren is that he’s still a freshman and has the opportunity to improve as the season and his career progress.

“I think what will happen with T.J. is that he’s going to get stronger,” Gottfried said. “He’s in a good strength and weight program. Even as his body changes, even over the summer and spring, he’ll be better next year.”"

Purvis has more potential/room to grow

Warren has a more polished (or old man) game that is way more consistent

TJ Warren is obviously significantly better than Rodney Purvis.

Would be like saying you think Vandy has been better than Leslie so far.

great analogy, face

and your track record has been so great the last couple days

13 and 5 in 29 minutes is clearly significantly worse than 0 and 6 in 24 minutes

since you're all about the now
