Just might be game of the year. This is a real sleeper hit. I highly recommend copping a copy of this now.

Been playing it. I can't get hooked like the first one. There's no direction. It's just too loose like Far Cry 2. It's basically wonder around the island doing things. I guess I need to play it a little bit more...

its fun, they improved on what sucked with number 2 except when it comes to missions. in 2, the missions were a lot better and with more freedom, 3 the missions are way to linear to be fun or interesting.

I've been having fun with it - story is pretty nuts so far - I'm a little skeptical that they're going to be able to pull it all together....only time will tell

Never got around to playing the first two but I've been seeing a number of trailers for this one and it's gotten good reviews. How story driven is this series? Will I be lost if I just jump into the third one?

I finished it the other day. It was a fun game, they fixed all the terrible, terrible crap from part 2 and this one actually felt like a far cry game. Stealth now exists again, so that's a huge plus.

After a while it got old though. Good for one playthrough but I don't see much to draw me back in. The story missions are weaker and the side quests were very repetitive. I'm not going to bother finding all the relics.

It was good, especially when comparing it to FC2, but I don't think it's GOTY good.

Yeah, driving was annoying. Another thing that annoyed me was Jason's voice. Personal thing, but it was like nails on a chalkboard. Hated it, sounded like a whiny baby the entire time, even after he supposedly manned up.

If you unlock all of the Signature Weapons it refreshes the game for a quite some time, since they are so fun to use.

Far Cry 2 could have been EPIC, but the few problems with it just became stupid.

Far Cry 3 fixed a lot of those issues, including stealth, telling factions apart, and knowing what areas were controlled by each faction. However, the missions in FC2 offered a lot more freedom in how you approach them, but FC3 the missions are way to linear. All in all though both were fun games. FC3 is still the best so far, but I think this franchise has potential if they keep improving it

Didn't the original Far Cry have like secret government installations and private mutations? Seems like the last two haven't really continued the same theme...

Are you asking if the plot is different?

Loved the multiplayer in the 2nd one. Reminded me of Delta Force 2, where you could lay concealed in natural patches of grass. Made sniper battles intense and believable.

Remarks on 3's multi?

I think fc2 had way better immersion, and fc3 reminds me a lot of mercs 2.

I agree that FC2 had better immersion as well as better non-linear missions. I do think that exploring the land on FC3 is a little better becuase they fixed the fatal flaws of FC2.

The fatal flaws of FC2 to me were that you could not tell different factions apart. Everyone shot at you for no reason, despite what side you were working for. You could not tell on the map what areas were controlled by what faction. And the stealth was terrible, in that enemies could locate you with NASA satellite precision.

In FC3 they fixed those problems, but the story and missions suck worse, although going around the island liberating outposts and fucking shit up is pretty fun.

If they could just combine the best aspects of each game they could have a true masterpiece.

Is the environment organic?

IE - are there tall grasses and such to provide concealment?

Mainly for the multiplayer. It's the one thing I've wanted in a FPS since the (like I said) Delta Force 2 on the PC.

^i played some multiplayer today. it's not like fc2 at all. the launch maps are small and more linear. gameplay is fast, double tap to the chest brings you down, snipers pretty much always one hit i think, but you can get revived. not much foliage to utilize. there are scouts that are like uav. all the custom maps were dead. a lot more weapon options than sp, though.

overall, the definitely took it into the CoD/BF direction than stickin to fc2

There were no factions in FC2

Just all the same enemies and the game pretends to have two factions.

Game is beyond great.

Heart of Darkness meets Far Cry 2 meets Just Cause 2.

Amazing.

I really enjoyed this game...which is surprising since I don't usually go in for this genre.

Also, I defintely want to pick up the DLC Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. If you haven't heard anything about it, take a look. Over the top 80's spoof of the future (2007).

2 was repetitive, but enjoyable.

3 is amazing. With the exception of the cumbersome menu system

Yeah the shop menu was a bitch I do remember, but the challenges and shit were cool. It was also cool to play a game where you literally have to upgrade everything and collect all of your shit without it feeling like "run here and open 5 boxes" over and over again.

Far Cry 2 just didn't connect with me. I never knew what I was supposed to be doing or who anyone was.

I haven't played FC3 since finishing it, but I just started up Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. If you liked FC3 you must check out Blood Dragon. Lots of tongue in cheek references to 80s action movies.

far cry 2 was fun if you just explored the world and experimented with the game mechanics, but all the missions were dumb and repetitive.

fc3 is better in a lot of ways, but I don't think the exploration or emergent gameplay was as good

I picked up FC3 and Blood Dragon on the Steam Autumn Sale last week. I have started with Blood Dragon first and have to say that it is ridiculously funny. I have really enjoyed it. I might just play through BD before starting up the base game. So far its a fun game though.
