Got it about 3 weeks ago at work. Get it free every year at work. Sadly they did not have the nasal spray this early, so I had to get the shot. First world problems ITT.

Worth repeating:
For those of you claiming you never get the flu, then don't get it for you. Get it for all those around you. Elderly and young children who are more susceptibleand immunocompromised people who can't get the vaccine. Some people get such mild cases they don't know they are actually getting the flu but they are still able to pass it to others.

NC has already had one flu related death this year.

vaccines aren't just about you. They are about protecting the herd.

my arm usually hurts the most the evening/next morning after, usually have a little bruising the next day. some people don't even have arm pain, but mine always bothers me for about a day and a half for some reason.

The flu shot is formulated for what strain they guess is going to be a big deal that season. No idea if they separate it by location.

My arm hurts for a few hours afterwards and then the next day the injection site is super tender. Sometimes I get a rather gnarly sizeable bruise but I didn't this year.

Like many others ITT, I never get flu shots and I never get the flu.

As justification, I'm going to play the "It's my body and I can do what I want with it" card here.

Women play this card it so frequently with regard to abortions, that it's a pleasure to be able to play it myself.

I'm not saying you don't have the right to not vaccinate yourself. it's just a dick move. and, hey, I used to be that guy too. Having a kid opened my eyes to how selfish not getting vaccinated is.

Isn't the idea that your immune system might be strong enough to fight the flu, but others' may not be, and you could transfer that shit to someone with a weaker immune system?

^^

I don't dig the idea of having flu germs deliberately injected into my arm. Also, as others have commented, I do like to keep my immune system strong and organic.

Why can't your kid get a flu shot? Is he too young? Also,

Quote :
""The effectiveness of influenza vaccine given to mothers during pregnancy in preventing hospitalization among their infants, adjusted for potential confounders, was 91.5%.""

This might be a good idea too. I mean, if you don't want your kids getting the flu, take appropriate precautions. It looks like you can pretty well safeguard against it, if it's a concern.

If the parents aren't going to get flu shots for their kids, then I kinda feel like I shouldn't have to get flu shots for their kids either.

Kids going through treatment for cancer can't get vaccines. People on immunosuppressive drugs for things like rheumatoid arthritis can't get vaccines. And those are the people who will end up in the hospital or dead because of things like the flu.

My flu shot I got during pregnancy protected Biscuit for about 6 months. At his 6 month visit he got a flu shot.

I appreciate your humanitarianism elise, but I don't really hang out with kids undergoing cancer treatment, so I doubt I'll infect any of them with the influenza virus that I don't have

Just got my yearly shot yesterday, upon afterwards I promptly went across the building to donate blood since they were wrapping up shortly. I was surprised to learn from both the contractor nurses administering the shots and the hot nurse from the red cross drawing my blood that it's OK to do that and happens somewhat frequently.

So on a side note you can infer that some of you people that dont get shots can still get it in less concentration from a transfusion should you forget to check yourself before you wreck yourself.

I guess I am kind of talking about all vaccines. But the flu shot can be just as important. Especially considering the amount of people who died from the flu last year.

I don't consider myself a humanitarian. I consider myself a functioning member of a 1st world country.

I think I had the flu as a kid.

Never gotten a flu shot, probably never will. I hope I don't pass the flu on to some kid...but might as well let nature take its course. Survival of the fittest.

I've never gotten a flu shot (since before I could walk and talk) and I've never given anyone the flu. So I'd rather be called a selfish asshole on the internet than intentionally give myself a minor case of the flu every year for no reason.
