is that tube welded to a plate, which is welded to the body? or is that just a cover plate for the hole?

I wouldn't do any cover passes - make them brittle

I wasn't going to do it... I was just unimpressed with that weld lol.

Cover passes will just make it worse structurally .

Welds are being re done by certified welder. I told them it looked like their wire speed was a little high and their weld speed was inconsistent and they were like holy crap this guy knows what he's talking about.

Fighting for 6k from a machine shop for ruining my engine block (mostly just the sleeves).

Luckily crank rods and pistons are unscathed just noticed a whole lot of leak by and decided to check it out...

Back to square 1 :-(

Asked for 4.25 bore... Received 4.37 bore... That wasn't centered in the sleeves

Did they drop your engine? You should post that on all the major forums with the shops information.

This isn't an uncommon occurrence.

Nobody knows how to work on FEs anymore.

Really no changes unless I may go to one of those timing belt setups but I doubt it. Part of me wants to ease off on the solid roller and go hydro roller....but then part of me says...... Naaaahhhhh 7000 rims of intermediate block powa is too cool for school.

Did find an oil filter adapter with a spare half inch line on it so I don't have to run one of those adapters sandwiched between the filter and the engine to turbo it later.

And a bigger pump too.

Block was an all aluminum robert pond racing block with his heads too.

Lol yeah I really don't give 2 shits when I'm posting on here.

I really should become a more articulate poster... I guess I just write professional discourse all day long and fucking hate that shit so, when I get a chance I just friggin ramble it all out.

It doesn't help that 99% of my posts are from an iPhone.

The best part about running a sleeved aluminum block is... You can run the bore at the ragged edge and not have to worry about tossing the block if something fails... Just $900 to have new sleeves pressed in and bored out...

Yeah the chunks missing were just cause the steel was so thin I could push my thumb through it.... So I did....

But yes new Darton sleeved pressed in bored correctly and assembled by Barry robotnik one of the 3 fe gods

God part of me has been watching drag week and even though all the top cars are running turbos something makes me want a whipple 4.0 liter hanging out the hood like a 8-71 only with a blower drive systems intercooler sitting under it..

i pulled my contract management wizardry

the shop that has my car is still in binness i paid them to build me the engine...they subbed it out to some shit hole shop out west who built a crap motor and it didn't work...

I said... i paid YOU (being the hot rod shop in apex) for a WORKING Engine and have documents as to such... since i have not driven seen or taken possession of engine 1 will will proceed as if engine 1 never existed... now you may use what parts aren't completely fucked by the first build to build engine 2 but the parts that are fucked and the rebuild are not my problem.... what i will say is

bret lykins, barry robotnik and jay brown all specialize in these engines and charge about 2k to assemble an engine i would suggest you use one of them to complete it. And so it has been!

the thing that sucks about the whole deal is the only reason i didn't do this work myself is that i didn't have a garage... and now i have a 2 car and a 1 car. but ohh well...

So my engine builder went to drag week.

http://youtu.be/H4R6wZu8wdg

Oooof... Never seen a rod break clean and square like that I think it must have had a crack in it already

Mine were fluxes so I should be ok
