Since I was a little kid I have had issues with frequent nose bleeds, mainly during the winter when the air dries out more but I get them other times of the year as well. It is always my left nostril so I the issue is obviously with something up there. It gets to the point where it is at least 2 times a week right now since I am traveling to Denver to work every week and the elevation and dry air are brutal up there. Has anyone had this issue and does anyone know if a doctor can do anything about it? I didn't know if they could carterize the vein or something since obviously it is weak or something like that.

And no I have never put any kind of drugs up my nose so it isn't that

Cauterizing is an option, sleeping with a humidifier, using a sinus rinse, using a q-tip with vaseline to moisturize the inside of your nose.

I've tried them all, still no luck on solving the issue. however, may have better luck for you.

(I've had probably ~10k nosebleeds lifetime, average 2 a day for 2013)

What ^ said.

I use a sinus rinse and Vaseline religiously and it's helped with the nosebleeds, but mine weren't terribly frequent or heavy. If your nose pours like a faucet, they'll probably take a look and recommend cauterizing it.

The issue with humidifiers is I travel for work and I doubt one of those tiny ones would work well

Ill try the Vaseline approach, I need to do something it is getting too annoying.

Get some saline spray to keep your nasal passages moist. I haven't tried it, but I've also seen like a saline gel that works longer.

Yeah I will definitely try that too, I was wondering if aquaphor would work well, that stuff seems to work better than Vaseline for dry lips and that kind of stuff

I always wondered why I got nosebleeds when little and now I don't ever get them.

Mine were frequent enough as a kid that I had my nose cauterized three times. Now I get 1-3 a year, with usually one during a cold where i end up blowing my nose a lot, but I just deal with it if it happens. They don't last long enough for me to go through the ordeal of sleeping with a humidifier anymore...whereas when I was a kid they'd bleed for awhile so it was necessary.

^My culprit blood vessel is very close to the skin/membrane of the septum and thise blood vessels are extremely sensitive & fragile so it was easily irritated as a child with dry weather and let's be honest frequent nose picking. The ENT told my parents I would grow out of them as I got older and bigger, and he was right. Not exactly sure why we grow out of them, but it happens. My 1-3 a year is a vast improvement over having 1-3 a week when I was younger.

I usually have this problem in winter as well although a far I have made it through this winter without one. For me it was basically once I had my first one it would just keep happening all the time. I have had success with just a tad bit of Vaseline but I hate that smell so that's a small annoyance.

you just gotta get over how silly you feel, if at all.

Keep hydrated, humidifier at home, and try not to blow your nose or otherwise disrupt the vessels. I'd advise against sticking things up your nose as it might cause further injury.

I get nosebleeds in the winter sometimes from cycling in the dry air. Nothing more annoying than walking into a class full of future nurses or at work and my nose is bleeding, and everyone freaks out and thinks I smashed my face in an accident.

dust mask works at keeping your nasals moist

not necessarily preventing nosebleeds

when i was a sophomore in high school i had a collision with a teammate playing baseball that caused a pretty bad nosebleed. i've had problems with the right side of my nose ever since then. i've had it cauterized 2 or 3 times but it still bleeds occasionally (~3-4 times a year, usually beginning of winter and spring). i always keep saline spray around when it's getting dry, it seems to help.

I've gotten one from running outside in the winter while in college, that one was the most random. Others are from cold medicine and dry air combined. My brother has gotten one from diving off a starting block before, as random as my running related one.

i recently found out that many hotel chains can set one up in your room and have it running when you arrive. probably gets kinda tiring to ask all the time if you're changing hotels a lot, but it's worth a shot.

For the last two to three weeks, I had frequent but short nosebleeds, but they now haven't shown up for a few days.

I thought that is when you drink too much, not smoking. He said he was out of breath
