While I have an incredible amount of respect for police officers and the job they do, it pisses me off when things like this happen

Quote :
"On Oct. 14, Bobby Gerald Bennett of Dallas, 59, of Dallas, Texas began acting erratically. While Bennett sat in a swivel chair in the middle of the cul de sac holding a knife, his mother, Joyce Jackson, called the police and asked the dispatcher to send officers who were trained in dealing with the mentally ill.

But when police arrived at 12:19 p.m., both officers quickly drew their weapons. One of the officers then fired four shots at Bennett, striking him once in the abdomen.

According to the press release issued by Dallas police Sgt. Warren Mitchell immediately after the shooting, Bennett “made statements indicating that he was not going to cooperate with the officers" and that “the incident escalated which led an officer to fire his weapon upon the individual.”

However, according to surveillance video captured by neighbor Maurice Bunch, Bennett was standing still during the entire incident and, when he was shot, his hands were down by his side. Bunch, who witnessed the shooting, tells WFAA:

“When the officers told him freeze, he complied,” said Bunch, who witnessed the incident from his driveway across the street. “He did not move an inch, in suspended animation; he just stood there, you know? Bobby was conscious, he knew exactly what he was doing because I had been talking to him prior.”
According to Bunch, the police were “trying to kill” Bennett.

Dallas police, after viewing Bunch’s surveillance footage, are now reviewing the incident:

We are in the very early stages of conducting a thorough criminal investigation of this incident. Once we complete the criminal investigation we will refer our findings to the Dallas County District Attorney's office [...] We will then begin the administrative investigation to determine whether our deadly force policy was violated. ??

We are aware of video taken by citizens of this incident.
Bennett remains in the intensive care unit of a Dallas hospital.

The surveillance footage of the incident, in which Bennett is standing with his arms down and backing away from the officers, can be viewed here:"

Helping and protecting people is their job.

I hate people who get angry when no one massages their nuts after not fucking up at work.

Because no other job in the world celebrates people... doing their job?

Or could it be that you and most posters on TWW are programmed to hate cops because they busted your dumb ass at one point for smoking pot or some other stupid shit.

"Fuck the police."

Ridiculous. Not that this particular incident is excusable, but the fever pitch of cop hating on this site is idiotic at best.

Pathetically stupid example.

But I also don't mean "teacher of the year" or "employee of the week" at KFC.

Let's see you rub some more neurons together.

Police officers get awards and shit all the time.

I have no problem with cop. I'm just not a fan when they murder people.

Com on now, let's face it: It takes a certain kind of person to want to be a cop. And having that kind of authority often does something to that particular kind of person.

Sure, I'm sure there are plenty of great cops who do great jobs. But there are plenty who don't. In my experience with cops, even when it was me who called them, most haven't been very friendly or helpful (I do recall two specific incidents when the cop was actually cool). And I think back to the several guys (and a gal) i know from high school who went on to be cops... and they were either arrogant jerks then, or were bullied and wanted to taste some authority.

Let's get this straight:
- Officer shoots a man.
- Officer writes a report indicating that the man took several steps towards him with a knife raised in an aggressive manner.
- Video comes out showing that the man was standing there with his hands at his sides and made no aggressive moves.

Clearly the officer was mistaken or he lied on his report. Personally, I think it's pretty far fetched to think that he was mistaken about whether a man came at him with a knife, but I'll leave that for the investigators to decide.

You should take a really good look at yourself it you're upset that the news is reporting on this investigation or that citizens of this country show concern for the case. Sorry if real news bothers you. Don't worry too much...There are still plenty of news outlets reporting on Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Obama's plot to turn America socialist, Kardashian bitches, and Michele Bachmann's latest publicity stunt to win the hearts of dumb motherfuckers.

^ Good god that is one fucked up case, and subsequent ruling.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia

Quote :
"Appellants' claims of negligence included:
the dispatcher's failure to forward the 0623 call with the proper degree of urgency;

the responding officers' failure to follow standard police investigative procedures, specifically their
failure to check the rear entrance and position themselves properly near the doors and windows to ascertain whether there was any activity inside;

the dispatcher's failure to dispatch the call received at 0642 hours."

I no next to nothing about the law, but I'd love to hear someone say how those claims were inaccurate.

if you want a Supreme Court case that says the same thing, look at DeShaney v. Winnebago County or Castle Rock v. Gonzales etc...

I was meremly commenting on his arrogance that the topic couldn't be discussed. I'm glad you provided the supreme court cases, because I don't know about this subject, and never claimed or asserted anything. So no, I wasn't wrong. It didn't need to be the end of the discussion. The discussion can continue further if people would like to learn more.

Quit being a dick, troll.

some (insert job title here) are douchebags and power hungry. They'll do anything to get to the top and when they do something stupid to get themselves in trouble they lie.

some (insert job title here) are nice people. They help out whenever they can and do what is asked of them to get the job done.

Cops are humans, no different than any other human out there. Why would you expect there not to be douchebag cops just like there are douchebags that you work with? I work in law enforcement and yes, there are a good number of cops/troopers/deputies that I can't get along with because since they hold a badge...they're a badass. At work, at home...their persona carries over.

Then there are a number that I love working around because they're helpful and nice and do what is asked of them without complaining.

This cop acted wrongly and I'm sure will be sued, fired, criminal charges, etc etc. But hey...continue to bash all cops and lump them into the same group.
