Another reason you are supposed to aim center of mass is because you are more likely to kill the target.
Ask a lawyer how much harder it is to get off the hook for "aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury" than "murder"

sad but true

im still baffled at how the system failed this cop. there are supposed to be stops and checks to prevent police from being affected by the law.

^Not dissagreeing. Center mass simpley gives you a bigger target. They drill that into them so when they are pumped full of adrenaline and scared they don't miss. Not that this guy should have been afraid.

I'm not surprised this guy is such a terrible shot. I've shot with many a cop and the majority were mediocre shots at best and tactically abysmal as well. Not knocking them for it. These are perishable skills most of them rarely use or train.

That would be some terrible, terrible shooting.

Luckily no one got hurt by the other 3 stray bullets in the residential area.

Maybe with enough video evidence people will start to realize what shitheads many police are.

It's no coincidence that in areas where cops wear cameras there are fewer complaints of unnecessary force and fewer incidents of police misconduct.

I also find it insane that there are still members of the public who don't support provisions keeping it or making it legal to record public officials operating in their official capacity.

I don't understand how you can argue against the video.

Did he take steps towards the officers? No
Did he provoke the officers in a threatening manner? No

The ill man should not have been fired upon. The officer was in the wrong for shooting and even more so for lying. Sounds like the officer had a twitchy finger and was looking for a reason to shoot, not the kind of person who should be armed and entrusted with serving the public.

Makes you wonder how many dozens, perhaps hundreds of other times, rogue cops have gotten away with similar murders and attempted murders because there is no video evidence and no witnesses.

Ultimately, the woman is at fault here for jeopardizing her family, but I don't think the cops did everything "by the book" here...and if they did, that's pretty scary.

I wonder if these two things are true:

Quote :
"the mother was arguing with the officer about whether to pay the fine on the side of the road or drive into town to contest it"

Quote :
"these are the same group of New Mexico officers who have repeatedly anally raped and probed suspects for hours on end while searching for drugs without finding guilt. "

So wait, those are the options? Pay the fine on the side of the road or go directly to court?

I watched it without sound. Wonder if cop will claim he tried to shoot the tires out. Without hearing what was going on or being said I dont see any huge problems here. Lady tried to run multiple times, cop was assaulted by at least one of the kids. The officer doing the shooting had just arrived on scene so may not have been aware of everything.

Is this how the system works? Can I just walk up to someone, point at him, and tell the police (who is with me) that that dude robbed me, and he dude goes to jail without a trial, without an investigation, without evidence?

And then after that, no compensation, not even an apology?

The American people will stand up one day and overthrow their police state.

"Monday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department accidentally shot and killed a production assistant for Tosh.0 after mistaking the 30-year-old for a stabbing suspect.

According to the Los Angeles Times, John Winkler went to a neighbor's apartment Monday night to try to help three people who were being held captive at knife point. Responding police shot Winkler when he ran from the apartment with one of the victims. From the Sheriff Department's statement:

As deputies continued attempts to contact the people in the apartment, the apartment door suddenly opened and a male victim came rushing out. He was covered in blood and bleeding profusely from the neck. Simultaneously, Victim Winkler ran out of the door, lunging at the back of the fleeing victim. Both ran directly at the deputies. Winkler was similar to the description of the suspect and was wearing a black shirt. Believing Winkler was the assailant and the assault was ongoing and he would attack the entry team; three deputies fired their duty weapons at him.
Winkler was shot once and died later that night at a local hospital.

One of Winkler's friends spoke to the Los Angeles Times after the shooting. "It's just a really sad story," Devin Richardson said, adding that Winkler had just moved to L.A. six months ago from Washington state to pursue a career as a producer. "He basically went to help some neighbors and ends up getting shot."

The suspect, 27-year-old, Alexander McDonald, was eventually arrested and charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of torture."

"Ersula Ore. Eric Garner. Jahmil-El Cuffee. Rosan Miller. Marlene Pinnock. Al Flowers. Alonzo Grant. This is just a sample of the men and women who have been savagely, and unnecessarily, beaten by police officers this summer. Garner's case, in which an NYPD officer used a chokehold to restrain the 43-year-old Staten Island father, resulted in death (On Friday a medical examiner ruled Garner's death a homicide at the hands of the NYPD). Since then, the topic of "police brutality" has become a national talking point and has sparked outcry from elected officials and community members asking for police reform nationwide. Just last week, in a meeting at New York City Hall, Rev. Al Sharpton told Mayor Bill De Blasio of his biracial son: "If Dante wasn't your son, he'd be a candidate for a chokehold." And it's true. But why? How, in Obama's America, did we end up here?

Looking for answers, I spoke with Mychal Denzel Smith, a writer who covers race and politics for The Nation, Ruby-Beth Buitekant, a community organizer in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and Darnell L. Moore, writer, activist, and managing editor of The Feminist Wire. Our conversation appears below.

I saw a 280lb cop slam a 110 lb 50+ year old lady to the floor at a bar over the holiday weekend. Pretty sure he broke her nose as a pool of blood spread as her face hit the floor with the quickness.

She was being quite erratic (hammered...probably coked up a bit)...but my 150lb self could have handled her with ease. Officer Fat-Ass will more than likely be out of a job soon.

It's real fucked up what cops are doing to both races...but is it just me or do black bystanders seem to escalate situations by getting in the way of cops and yelling at copies while they are working? Do white people do this? It seems like it is enough to videotape the wrongdoing...yelling simply isn't helping ANYONE in these situations.

Which is really shitty, if anything cops should be held to a higher standard because they should actually know the laws. Granted, I have no idea what that guy was actually doing to get the attention of the cops in the first place, but the way he conducted himself in the video in no way whatsoever deserved to be arrested or tased.

I don't know the laws exactly but if a cop comes up to you sitting in a public place breaking no laws and asks you to identify yourself are you required to? If so then I guess that is going to be their excuse here, but still the man isnt being uncooperative with the police or anything there is no need to tase him and then arrest him like that.

True but when in a vehicle you are only "supposed" to be pulled over if you are suspected of violating a law, at least thats how I understand it. I never heard them say what the guy actually did wrong in that video other than not identifying himself when asked.

Thanks, folks.

Despite the harassment, it seems like things really escalate when the second officer arrives. Prior to that, officer one just calmly repeated herself. I feel like it's pretty unlikely that anything would happened if he hadn't showed up.

I believe the charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct, and obstructing the legal process were dropped against this man. I think... But its been a while since I read this story.
I'm guessing those charges were dropped because they would disintegrate in court anyway.

But yeah, the damage has been done. This man was tazed and arrested, in front of his kids, for refusing to identify himself to the police....something he wasn't legally required to do in that situation.
