I got pulled over for going 89 in a 65 construction zone. I was speeding, but only 78-80, definitely not 89. I was also cited for swerving in the lane and pulling over on the left shoulder (I was in the left lane and the right lane had no shoulder)

The ticket total came out to 1350 - this is my first traffic violation. Should I have a traffic lawyer handle it or just go to court and see if I can get it reduced?

Quote :
"Nationally, on average, three work zone fatalities occur every day. In Oregon during the last 10 years, there’s been an average of 475 work zone related crashes each year, including an average of 18 serious injury crashes and eight fatal crashes.

Highway work zones can be frustrating at times. Life is busy and time is precious. Please understand when you drive dangerously through a work zone you’re not just putting the lives of highway workers at risk – you’re risking your own life, and the lives of your loved ones.

The majority of people injured or killed in these crashes are drivers, passengers or pedestrians, not workers. The single biggest factor in crashes is driver inattention; that’s why orange cones, variable message signs and other tools are used to alert motorists. The other major contributing factor is speed, which is why work zones often require lower speed limits. "

Hire a good lawyer, and go to court with him. I'm assuming you are white, so it will work out perfectly fine if you show up with a lawyer. If not white, don't show up with lawyer.

Anyone have a good Emporia-based (or VA barred with success adjudicating in Emporia Gen District Court) attorney to give my business to for a §46.2-862 82/70?

So annoying. I legit thought I had already passed out of the Emporia Revenue Generation Zone heading back up to DC.

over 80 in VA isn't just a ticket, it's a class 1 misdemeanor with the potential for jail time

I'm pretty sure I'm aware of the statute that I previously referenced.

The overwhelming majority of them get pled down. I've had two in other VA counties. Just looking for a local representation that makes a living doing this sort of thing.

You gotta speed inbetween the turn around spots then slow down whenever you get to each one. That works wonders

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

I used to do that but after making the trip from Raleigh to Richmond repeatedly I figured out that the Emporia speed trap is in the same spot every time.

EMPORIA SPEED TRAP!

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Emporia,+VA+23847/@36.762385,-77.4945917,148m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x89b1de1655f89055:0xa7a705da5c02b1d3

They are either right there waiting on south bound traffic, or 1 turn around point south of there waiting on north bound traffic. EVERY DAY ALL DAY I've even seen him sitting there after midnight.

Hey I got a crazy idea, how about going the speed limit and protecting your money?

I only go 10% over the posted speed limit and that rule of thumb has netted me zero speeding tickets to date.

LOL @ VA Code. So, they make a statutory misdemeanor reckless driving charge for speeding, write it as a traffic citation, but any prior convictions for the same violation aren't seen by the presiding judge because it's a criminal conviction and not a DMV/traffic citation. So even though I have a prior for the same charge, my driving record is clean in VA (and my state of licensure).

Whole thing pled down for $75. Haha.
