So its probably a longshot but what if Lori quits the GR and wants to come back home now? That will certainly cause drama between Kevin and Nora.

I thought that first episode was great. Some weird stuff going on, but looks like it's setting up to be an interesting/entertaining season.

There were a lot of wtf moments in that episode. If it hadn't been for the "Previously on the Leftovers" thing beforehand I would have thought I was watching the wrong show until Matt showed up.

- What's with the new happy/colorful intro?
- What was the deal with the cavewoman and the baby at the very beginning? Maybe her descendants are the ones that were departed? Clearly that area has something to do with it.
- Why was that woman watering her front lawn in a wedding dress?
- What's up with that guy with the long beard on top of that tower?
- What's with the crack in the road with the glass box around it? Looks like the crack was probably caused by one of the frequent earthquakes but why block it off?
- Why was there a random clip of the daughter and her friends running around naked in the woods?
- Why did the firemen burn down that guy's house?
- What was going on with that random box the wife dug up when she was running? It had a living bird in it that just flew away? What???
- When the daughter and her friends disappeared, maybe that was another departure?

I'm very confused.

I think it is pretty clear that I was expecting a lot less wtf thrown at me in such a short time. Forgot to mention dude dragging a goat into a diner, slitting it's throat, then leaving.

The whole first season was "wtf" type shit. Now the second season is set in a town where no one departed...no surprise that it would double down on wtf.

The cave woman shit was weird...but this show is like a sci-fi/spiritual collaboration, so nothing really surprises me.

It's a tv show, not a movie. Meaning they have another dozen hours to answer some of those questions before raising more for next season

- What's with the new happy/colorful intro?
http://www.vulture.com/2015/10/leftovers-opening-titles-self-aware.html
- What was the deal with the cavewoman and the baby at the very beginning? Maybe her descendants are the ones that were departed? Clearly that area has something to do with it
http://www.vulture.com/2015/10/leftovers-season-two-opening-scene-damon-lindelof.html
- Why was that woman watering her front lawn in a wedding dress?
Link at the bottom doesnt directly address, but infers and i semi-assumed that basically people thought what they were doing day of departures must have been special....
- What's up with that guy with the long beard on top of that tower?
see link below, but basically your typical hermit type of deal
- What's with the crack in the road with the glass box around it? Looks like the crack was probably caused by one of the frequent earthquakes but why block it off?
My only guess is that the earthquake happened on the day of so they want to commemorate, total guess though
- Why was there a random clip of the daughter and her friends running around naked in the woods?
i think just to show more that she is kinda wild/crazy
- Why did the firemen burn down that guy's house?
b/c john seems to not like people believing in "magic/miracles" and doesnt want "crazies" and/or false prophets in the town. He is a sort of skeptic and thinks those people will destroy the town. Same reason the old preacher didnt let the new preacher descibe his wife's "miracle". He is the "crazy" police, no idea how he got the job
- What was going on with that random box the wife dug up when she was running? It had a living bird in it that just flew away? What???
no clue on that one
- When the daughter and her friends disappeared, maybe that was another departure?
yea, but its weird the water went too, we'll see (maybe?)

this one gives more info than the Lindelof ones, but i would have preferred not reading it. Its not spoilery so to speak, just gives me info that I would prefer to just wait and see:

from the guide info:
Quote :
"Season 2 opens in a Texas town that was renamed Miracle for having no departures, but longtime resident John Murphy is skeptical of charlatans and carpetbaggers who are trying to profit from this good fortune. Meanwhile, the Murphys welcome new neighbors when Kevin, Nora and Jill relocate from New York, hoping to start a new life."

I was thinking that but the one guy mentioned that they have been friends since 3rd grade and they have both lived there the whole time. Why go to the extreme of burning his house down? If the main guy has burned people's houses down in the past, he would have known it was coming if he didn't comply.

Thanks for the link btw, that does explain some things. Looks like goat slaughter guy and wedding dress woman are both doing their weird shit for the same reason.

What I assumed:

The fireman & the dude who claimed to see things or whatever you call it were normal friends or acquaintances since childhood & as soon as the miracle/leaving/event/what have you occurred, that is when the guy with "powers" got his powers or claims to have gotten them. The fireman guy thinks he's making the powers up to get money from the religious people who visit the town

The random box that the chick dug up that had a bird fly out of it, was actually a bird she had once buried that had come back to life

Right and he burned down the house bc that makes him no longer a resident so the other guy has to leave town.

Of course if I was psychic guy, I would just go burn down Johns house.

And clearly doing something like that wasn't irregular, as the guys getting ready to go with him were asking if the case was a 3 or something like that when the dad said it was a 5. So obviously they're used to using some level of force/coercion to have their coded levels

i was curious if the levels were how big of a fire to set, like burn the house down all the way or just heavily damage or what, like the old X-alarm fire.

loved 80% of it. the book guy was a bit on the nose and i enjoyed the end but the son is one of the worst actors on the show, so it was a little stilted

Right so I figured that Nora threw the rock through their window since she is mad that they stopped Matt from coming back into town, but why did Erica get so pissed and throw a rock back? Was it because Nora said she could prove that the daughter didn't depart but she actually couldn't prove it?

yea that end sequence was weird. why did the "what did they last say" make her break down so much other than just a general reminder or her children.

If I didn't know that the question of what and why the departure happened, I'm pretty sure I'd find this show infuriating

Letting us all know that there won't be an answer was one of the best moves they've made

^agreed, watching season 1 and getting to know how this show operates (and probably to a lesser extent watching Lost as well, since Lindelof helped do that too), and knowing what to expect and not to expect answers-wise has really helped me just enjoy season 2 so much more, and just embrace the weirdness.

So it is 100% confirmed that they won't be revealing anything about what caused the departure?

That's my impression from an interview or two I read from Lindellof in between seasons.

I can't say with 100% certainty because I'm just not going to go back and find the stuff, but the links are probably in this thread would be my guess

The son was protecting the pregnant Asian girl in season one, she abandoned the baby in a restroom, where the son found it, and so he left it on his dad's doorstep, where Nora found it.

Wayne is the adopted baby's father. If you don't remember, Wayne was able to "heal" people of their pain by hugging them. He helped Nora get over her family's departure. As far as we know, he actually was able to do this and it wasn't a hoax, but he did have a thing for young attractive Asian girls and there were more groups of pregnant girls with protectors.

so do we think the son inherited the healing hug from Wayne?

and Wayne is on the run right? seems like forever since I watched the last season

Wayne is dead. Kevin found him in the bathroom and told him to make a wish and not tell him because if it came true then he would have powers or whatever.

wtf

Sidenote: Anyone think it was completely out of character for Nora to just get up and leave like that? After both of them going through so much and both of them having a lot of baggage, I'd think she'd at least try to get him some help or something.

I assumed she left b/c she was scared what those recearchers said may be true about her causing trouble of those around her because when he told her about the voices she made sure to ask when it started & he confirmed it was when they got together

Then again, she probably wouldn't have taken the kid with her had that been her mindsight

I also assume he won't die, but they could always go for the full shark jump by having him come back to life naturally like the bird that was buried for 3 days in a tiny box & would fly away (allowing one to make a wish). That or he could become someone else's Patti. But obviously the most likely scenario is he's brought back to life within a minute or 2 of being dragged off (presumably by the kid having his own epipen

The kid KNEW that his grandfather would kill himself and that Kevin would be "dead". When he walked into the trailer, he winced a little bit at the sight of all the blood, but he obviously didn't react normally. There is some kind of plan in motion here.

They had the black kid in the preview for next week, in the woods, saying something like 'holy shit' and looking down at the ground. I am going to guess we are going to get some forest magic.
