In other words don't race anything that's remotely setup for drag racing. Any high 11, low 12 second car will give a Hellcat all it can handle on a unprepped street, from a dig. Car is OVERRATED. Don't need 700 hp if you can't hook it.

Dude, GTFO over it already. This car is glorious. Please, go ahead and show me a 700+ horsepower front engined RWD car that DOES hook up really well at the drag strip. And a production car, nothing modified.

Show me another 700 horsepower front engined RWD car that was marketed solely off 1/4 mile times and horsepower ratings that cannot perform the one task it was supposedly great at.

The only thing glorious about the Hellcat is its engine...the end.

To equate this so you can understand my issue with this car. Imagine if the Stingray Z06 couldn't take a high G turn without spinning out. Thats the drag racing equivalent of what this car does.

^^You're still not getting it. You put drag radials on it and it's a winner. Your complaints are petty and impractical.

Wrong again, put drag radials on it and enjoy buying a replacement drive shaft.

There's more to drag racing than just getting a huge engine and some sticky tires.

Yes, I've read multiple reports of them breaking them.

My bad on the driveshafts.

Seriously though, this car is made for hooning. And there's nothing wrong with that.

^^^, ^^^^

hmmm, so can it be drag radials + better driveshaft, or is there another link in the chain that is only marginally capable of standing up to the torque output?

...because if you just have to upgrade a driveshaft, that's not too big of a deal.

Agreed.

Technically the g8 half shafts aren't the best in the world iirc.

except is a 700+ rwhp G8 riding around Raleigh with stock drive shaft and half shafts that have 140k miles on them. Not to count that it runs 9's....

http://www.drivesrt.com/2015/challenger-srt-hellcat/

This car was designed for what? Look at the website for it. Its all about the track, but it can't hold up at the track. I won't even rant on how Dodge pulled moves from Ferrari's playbook by sending out prepped cars for reviews.

^^I agree upgrading isn't a big deal if you are modding a car to a power level it wasn't designed for. But to have to do it to a 60k car that was marketed for 707hp and 10.80 ET is mind blowing to me.

What's mind blowing to me is someone bitching about a $60k car that comes standard with 707 hp with a factory warranty. 5 years ago nobody thought a domestic would come out with something like this.

^^no shit, it has 250+ more HP, it also cost 3 times as much. Although I'd bet on me if its a stoplight encounter. Add him to my kills list.

I've been 12.02 on street tires.....with a shit ton less power than him.....

^ Depends on what you mean by (something like this). In my opinion the CTS-V has dominated that market since 2009. Yes it doesn't have the mind blowing HP numbers but its a superior vehicle imo. I'm done, go back to screaming about how great the hellcat is.

i dont think anyone is screaming how good it is; they just dont think its as bad as you

i briefly considered a challenger r/t back when i had a very long highway commute and gas was cheap (well, as cheap as it is currently)

would have been great at quickly eating up highway miles

That is totally valid. It's easily surmountable, though.

^^ A few dudes ran high-11s on stock rubber with stock C5 Z06 Corvettes almost 15 years ago.

Hellcat is good for something like high HP Supra...highway rolls
I'm still in shock that 1997 540i with sports package has the same width rear tires as Hellcat... with exactly 425hp LESS 18 years later. Dodge could have at least stuffed 305s there

The hell man. Why can't a car be great even if it's not the best? Quit being so hard up about it man.

I'm on board with TKE-Teg

700hp+ muscle car that isn't 6 figures is pretty epic.

100 grand?

Last years GT500 made 662 stock for under 60k. Add in the Super Snake package for 850hp for < $100k

I'm just not impressed by a dyno queen. Yes it has 700+HP, but it also runs 11's (HIGH 11's unless you put DRs on). On the other hand the COPO camaro (80k drag car) has 450 HP and runs 9's. They should have spent more time on suspension and weight reduction instead of just sticking a mountain motor in that heavy ass car.

Don't mind me I'm just hating on it. I look forward to the Charger Hellcat, since its going to be 4 doors and faster than the challenger.

where the flying fuck did you get those chevy fanboy numbers from?

it would have to weigh less than 1900 lbs to even have a chance at that...

c'mon BJ i'm tryin' to be on your side but you can't just make shit up

edit:

Ohh you're posting NHRA "super stock" power rating... yeah keep thinking that's legit...

the car "can run 9s" and "comes with 425hp"..... but those don't happen at the same time. they come with a junk tune to meet class regulations.

they make between 700 and 800 hp depending on tune...

Also.. buy a hell cat, start shaving weight off and it will probably run the same times.

This is beyond stupid to me. If you have a vehicle that everyone wants, make as many as possible and sell them. Or charge more per vehicle until you get the demand where you want it. This is a Dodge, not a Ferrari and should be treated as such. Mass production car.

It seems pretty obvious that they're not physically able to build them fast enough. Difficult to quickly build a 707 hp high performance engine? Wow, imagine that!

We get it, you hate this car. Move on already.

You act like it takes some kind of rocket science to put together a 700hp engine. Its a forged 6.2 liter V8 with 12 psi boost. WOW mind blown.

Unlike you I've done my research on this car, even talked to a dealer about it. The production is purposefully limited according to my local dealer.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're selling this car at a loss to become brand relevant again. the investment in dealer techs and parts on the car grows with each one in the wild as well

When you are going for a personal best you generally ignore the tree and focus on setting the launch rpm just right.

So the timer starts when the car moves instead of when the green light triggers? Doesn't that sort of render the final number somewhat meaningless, since it removes the factor of reaction time?

Well, not meaningless, I guess, but when compared to "real" quarter mile times, it seems like it would be worth mentioning. A 10.3 in an actual race with another car would be a hell of a lot more impressive than a 10.3 where you have all day to get everything right and reaction time isn't factored in.

El Nachó In drag racing reaction time only matters if you are racing the guy beside you, the clock doesn't start until you move. The driver in that vette is an extreme case, and most likely not a real racer. The staging process is a routine and a regular racer can manage to cut a decent light and have the proper launch. When I'm testing for a personal best my reaction time is usually off by about .2-.3 because you don't want to be wasting runs because you launched at 1k instead of 1350 etc.
