I'm shopping for a jeep and I've noticed that there seem to be better deals on new JKUs vs used ones.

For example, i can get a new JKU sport with package 23c for about 2k more than even a 2012. I would have expected more depreciation.

Do you guys have any insights as to which local dealerships give the best prices?

Also, I've always heard 'end of year' as being the best time to buy, but is there a time when Jeep typically gives better deals like 0% financing? I know invoice pricing comes around quite often.

I looked at cars at Westgate Jeep awhile back and did not enjoy the experience (but we didn't buy there so I can't say anything about pricing)

I just went through the process of buying a JKU. Several organizations offer some nice incentives on Jeep Wranglers. Tread Lightly, for example, offers 1% below invoice for its members, meaning that is the absolute ceiling for what you should pay for a new Jeep. The only catch is that you have to be a member for 30 days before it takes effect.

URL: http://treadlightly.org/join/individual/chrysler-affiliates-reward-program/

I know a lot of folks on the Jeep forums consistently report getting 2% below invoice, and a few are boasting about 3-5% below invoice.

You almost certainly will NOT get 0% financing on a Wrangler. I think they offered 0% once upon a time on short leases (36 months), but I haven't seen that in forever.

And you're right: It makes no sense whatsoever to buy a 2012 given their lack of depreciation. The 23c package is a great choice!

Bought my rubicon from westgate got a pretty good deal at the time.

Love it.

Jeeps don't really depreciate much just make sure it has the Penta star engine.

Love mine wouldn't trade it for the world

I live in the Greenville area and shopped all over the state. Westgate nearly got my business, but I ended up going with Keffer in Charlotte and was super pleased.

Ok, So help me out on the decision making process.

My first thought was that i could get a base sport model with the 23s package with the max tow for the larger gearing ratio, and do the cosmetic changes I want.

Then.... I tested out a Rubicon. It seems that the Locking Differentials will come in pretty handy in snow/mud.

My questions to you guys are; would the locking differentials and electronic swaybar disconnect be worth upgrading to a rubicon? Does the rubicon lend itself better to the following upgrades?

The cosmetic changes I planned to make:
20" wheels and 35" tires (with required lift)
top rack
rear bumper with integrated class II and tire carrier
front bumper with winch.

if you are ever going 4 wheeling or if you want any respect from any other non "bro-jeeper" ever you won't run 20s until you run 45 inch tires or bigger and then i'm cool with 22.5s lol

16s 17s or 18s MAX on 35s

I really like the way my 17-inch wheels look with my 35s, but I would never go any bigger.

The electronic swaybar disconnect and lockers are awesome features, but you have to be getting into some pretty serious stuff before you really need either. The Rubicon lockers only work in 4lo and are definitely an offroad only feature -- albeit a really nice one. As far as that goes, you can get an aftermarket quick disconnect kit for like $100.

I like what i like and I've never been fond of the 'bro-jeeper' phrase either. Lets face it, these things are toys. The fact that the Wrangler only has a 3k lb towing capacity speaks to its 'toyishness'.

I personally don't understand why people take 35k vehicles, spend thousands on upgrades and then smash them around on rocks.

This vehicle will be for camping and tailgating. Will probably see deep mud, sand and snow.

I saw one last week on 20s that looked really good.
I was clearly a mall crawler though.
It was the orange color with the color matched hard top.

Orange with color matched top might be a little too much Orange. I'm going for Hydro blue but with black sun rider and fenders to tone it down. Plus I don't want to spend the money on a Sahara.

I've only found one climate controlled seating option for the JK by Roadwire. Any other options out there? Once you have AC seats its hard to ever go without.

(Don't bother responding with 'take the top off').

Hater implies we don't have the means to do it... Which is incorrect we are just trying to make sure you don't look like a dumb ass on accident. We are now clear you are intentional in your endeavors.

Also I have not heard bro dozer before and applaud it's creation and use.

I feel like most bro jeeps were built by people who wanted yellow miatas, then got all self-conscious and built a monument to faux masculinity instead... With teh bling of course.

AC seats? In a jeep??? wow. I have an old 77 cj and its really not that hot inside. it didnt come with doors so maybe that helps the airflow situation.

while we have all the jeepers in one spot does anyone have interest in the stock AMC 304 V8? Going to go away from a gas engine because at 9mpg the brodozer quickly loses its appeal.

its a stock amc 304 from 77 cj. i would rebuild it before i put it into anything. compression test results were good on all but 1 cylinder and I have not looked into it. i run it as is and have not had any issues. how would you use it?

for clarity i'm swapping a diesel in the jeep. the jeep itself is not for sale. i basically stole the thing and even the thought of a huge profit isn't enough to offset the fact that i would have to spend more money to get back where i am now. unless you have a scrambler.....then we can talk $$$

Wait actual capability? Dude all kidding/trolling aside if you have to lock your axles to get through something you are probably going to hurt a wheel if you stick with 20s hence my original comment. That's why most jeepers mock people rolling on 20s because they are useless offroad. The former term was mall crawler before bro jeep came out.

You will be laughed off the trail with 20's on a Jeep.

Stick with 17's, hell I've even seen some 18's that look good.

1. The thing that it's good at, as a toy, is hampered by the big wheels.
2. The towing capacity is a function of the short wheelbase (and the JKU, with longer wheelbase and D44 rear, is conservatively rated a little above 3k, FYI) as well as the litigiousness of the U.S. and/or the desire to sell heavier domestic trucks at higher margins. In Germany, a fucking Golf is rated to tow 3k. In America, basically only trucks/larger SUVs are rated to tow, even if the same vehicle is rated by the same manufacturer to tow thousands of pounds everywhere else.

I don't care for the looks of JKs, or for that matter, their lack of Jeepishness coupled with no great attributes to balance that out.

If you're going to get one, though, the color matched hard top is bad, and color matched fenders and big alloy wheels are even worse.

This is some dopey shit.

I drove a TJ for several years and loved it. I scoffed at the JKs, and especially the JKUs, but now that I drive one, I wouldn't trade it for anything else. It's definitely still a Jeep.

^^^ because we can't trust morons to load a trailer correctly they base towing weight of smaller vehicles on their ability to withstand death wobble from a poorly loaded (too much weigh behind the axle) trailer.

I've seen a few towing 20' -22' boats and a few of those had 3" lift and 35"tires or more.
All of the, maid it tows like a dream.

^^ I did the same... 3.8 liters, heavier, wider etc I hated it.... But then the rubicon came out and it had real dana 44s not dana30s with big ring and pinions and I said.... Interesting... And then the Penta star came out... And now I own one...

I agree to this partially. I think you have to get white, black, or silver for the color match to not be overwhelming.

The penta star is a huge improvement and why i went for it.

I had to special order my Sahara with manual because the dealership couldn't locate one nearby. I couldn't be happier with it and very glad i went with the cloth top over vinyl.

I has color matched hardtop. It better than the one that oxidizes and looks ashy in no time same with the fenders.

All I have to worry about is the hood clips.
