That is my point, the medical examiner already knew the guy was shot in the back before the video surfaced, so why was the cop not charged already.

The news is also reporting the taser probes were in his back, which means he was tased in the back, which would contradict the cops story that he took the taser, how did she shoot himself in the back with the taser probes?

It's a little bit of both. There's other videos of cops doing wrong things on camera, and the cop doesn't get charged. John Crawford and Tamir Rice come to mind.

^ I'm assuming those questions are rhetorical? We all know why, in the absence of video, those questions would have never been asked.

Because of the cop's statement obviously. You have a statement contradicting evidence...so you need an investigation. You can't just charge him immediately. He knew what was coming...he was lawyered up.

Once the video came up, the statement was proven to be false and he was charged.

We are definitely not being retarded with this shit.

Black people have been reporting about this activity in their neighborhoods for decades. The emergence of widespread recording equipment has demonstrated that the overall theme of their messages was 100% true. Police have been harassing them, beating them, robbing them, lying, planting evidence, and even taking their lives by way of prison and murder. And it's hurt their families and communities.

This guy had trouble making child support...well, now, there are four kids with no father at all.

And if we had no resources and no voice, they'd do it to us, too.

This is bad.

To the two points that someone made on the previous page regarding cops messing with their antennas or turning off the cameras.

1. They have black boxes that can record pretty much everything that happens in a car, I'm sure they could add this to the mix to ensure they are not tampered with.
2. If a cop gets out of his/her car, then the camera comes on and stays on until back in the car, period. If anything else happens, then there should be some type of punishment for the cop.

Cameras are only as good as their perspective though. If a person gets close enough to a cop to take a weapon, then a body camera would not have the proper perspective to record it. I guss there would be sound, but no video.

^^^ I don't think I was referring to anything that you said in your post with my statement. I was talking about the fact that this cop was in trouble before the video came out and that after the video came out that he wasn't being charged just because of the situation in America today....he's being charged because he shot a dude five times in the back. Re-read what I quoted and responded to.

BTW...here is an article on his former attorney (the guy I know), who dropped him when the video came out:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/04/08/exclusive-michael-slager-s-attorney-dumped-him-as-soon-as-he-saw-video.html

So yes...he lawyered up with one of the best criminal attorneys in the area when this shit first went down. I'm not saying he wasn't going to get away with it...I'm just saying that you don't automatically lawyer up with one of the big boys if you don't think shit is about to blow up. A dude got shot five times in the back (and now they are saying he was tasered)...this would have taken a MONUMENTAL effort to sweep under the rug.

And this should get better (from an information standpoint). Apparently SLED has dashcam footage of the shooting:

http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/TheBattery/archives/2015/04/08/summey-sled-has-dash-cam-footage-of-walter-scott-shooting

It is. It's also ghetto as fuck in a lot of areas. It's ranked in some top 10 crime lists nationally in recent years. There are some nice areas in it though...and it will eventually be taken over by the Charleston sprawl in be really nice and 20 or 30 years.

But yeah...it should be the NCPD. Don't lump me in with that cesspool.

If you are involved in a critical situation (shooting, major accident, etc) and a member of a professional organization (FOP, PBA, etc) you have access to a lawyer who is kept on retainer. Sometimes they suck, sometimes they are top notch, well known defense attorneys.

So while he hadn't been charged prior to the video, shit was going down in some fashion and charges probably were [hopefully] not far out, right? Are there any statements from the NCPD prior to the video? I imagine there is the standard "we're investigating, he's on paid admin duty" message and that's it.

I'm still trying to figure out why I'm a dumbass for taking the cops side in the Mike Brown case, but not this one.

I'll be very interested to see what kind of time this guy ends up doing. Pretty sure everybody is getting tired of hearing about cops being involved with shootings of unarmed suspects, so they might try to make an example out of him.

I mean, this guy was running away. They knew who he was. Why not just let him go and get him later, if warranted?

the only evidence I've seen is the video, and from that this most definitely looks like the officer straight up murdered the guy.

I don't care if the victim was a saint or an asshole... an officer of the law shooting a man in the back like he did is hard impossible to justify. I can think of only a very few reasons where it could possibly be ok for a cop to shoot a guy jogging away from them... they were about to attack another person... they had a gun shoved up their ass using a sphincter trigger... and that's about it. (and neither appear to be the case here.)

This is bad obviously for the victim, but also drives a huge wedge of mistrust between a large segment of society and law enforcement officers (in a time where it is already a major problem). I'm glad they didn't waste [too much] time filing charges on the killer.

I wonder if there is some larger criminal element at work here (organized crime/gang hit with officer taking a cut?)... or if the cop was just an idiot/asshole?

well yes. that and the murder its self. it just seems so absurd/horrifying to me how blatantly unjustified and contemptible this murder was... wondering if there could be others that would face some sort of conspiracy or accessory charges.

was the cops partner visible in the video before the shots were fired?

So I think I read somewhere that this cop was previously exonerated from accusations of police brutality against a black guy before. Maybe this guy just looked at black people as less than people, not deserving of respect, dignity, or life. Maybe this guy just didn't fucking care, or only cared enough after the fact to try a cover up.

I'm not saying he went out on the beat that day thinking "I'm going to kill me a nigger today". But I do think that he was operating with a complete disregard for human life, and the victim's skin color may have had something to do with that.

I obviously don't know what happened, but it is hard to imagine how a traffic stop can turn into this shit, without any opportunities to diffuse the situation.

This has probably been discussed...

but how was the guy making the video not noticed by the cops? They weren't even aware of the existence of the video till it surfaced.

Doesn't seem like the guy was far away and using zoom, it seems like he was right there by the fence.

I don't know why everyone thinks this cop is going to get off. If anything, he will get the most severe punishment possible. An example will be made of this guy.

And the unspoken message behind whatever he gets is probably going to be "we still don't care what you do, just don't get caught doing it, or this will happen to you".

You think you might be a little dramatic here?

Regardless, here's the cop's background:

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/walter-scott-shooting/michael-slager-n337691

Quote :
"Documents released by the force show that one complaint in January 2015 involving failure to file a police report was sustained — though it was unclear what disciplinary action Slager faced, if any."

Quote :
"Slager was cleared of another complaint regarding use of force. In that case, a man alleged Slager had used his Taser for no reason and slammed him to the ground in September 2013. The officer was exonerated upon investigation, documents from the North Charleston Police Department show."

The cop has now retained THE most famous defense attorney in Charleston, Andy Savage. He's the Matlock of the lowcountry.
