Name storm or not, it's most likely going to ruin the weather this weekend.

you can't have in the same year "Claudette" and "Odette", that's just poor namesmanship

if we do get down to W, looking forward to "A Hurricane Named Wanda" puns

Doubt we even make it halfway down the list so it shouldnt be a worry haha. Looks to be a slow year especially for any stronger storms.

if I were a billionaire, I would find and fuck a woman with each hurricane-name, every year

this also goes for the even slightly androgynous names like Danny and Sam

Didn't they say this was probably going to be a slow hurricane season? Watch, we'll probably run out of names.

They're saying the jet stream will deflect it back into the atlantic before it hits the US.

I hope that's not true and it drill pecks south florida. Could use a little excitement around here.

Puerto Rico could use the rain.

This won't hit the US.

^^

and other models show a ridge forming so Erika wouldn't get as much steering current and has a higher probability of landfall on the SE coast.

^The latest models have it developing less, than the model 24 hours ago. So I'd say not really.

^I wouldn't worry, unless your flight gets delayed. Too much land interaction is likely w/ Puerto Rico and Haiti/Dominican Republic in close proximity along the current expected path, reducing the strengthening capabilities of the storm.

Seems like we're not getting that land interaction folks were counting on. By Friday we'll know what we're dealing with.

^Agree with your Friday assessment, but I wouldn't rule out that land interaction just yet. The latest (06z) model runs (that shifted the cone path to the east) are further north at 12z than the current location of the center of the storm. So, there may be a westward pull to the 12z model runs.

The 0z GFS run is scary!

Latest forecasts have it tracking mostly on land. Prob won't even reach hurricane status. Maybe a big rain event?

So I've been in Hawaii for a little over a year now... before I got her the big island had never had a hurricane make landfall.

Literally the weekend I was supposed to arrive last year was the first time it had been hit in recorded history. We're now tracking our third major tropical storm/hurricane of this summer. So far we've been lucky that they've veered off track or weakened before hitting us, but it looks like we might catch a category 1 early next week.

Offshore blocking high pressure and incoming cold front from the NW. Really need to watch this, even if it (by NHC standards) doesn't "strengthen". Could be looking at a nor'easter by the weekend.

Well NHC finally starting to strengthen their forecast. That upper low that cuts off to the west this weekend will likely be the catalyst for this storm to really blow up, just hope that track takes it further east and north of NC. Some very impressive rainfall accumulations for central/eastern NC through Sunday for some of the latest model runs (some up to a foot of rain!).

Today and tomorrow will be interesting to watch as shear lessens and it churns over record warm waters in that area.

Okay so I know this is jumping the gun, but since I can't remember the last time we had a hurricane directly impact NC...do they cancel public school for something like this?

^Yeah, I'd say so. Any landfall would likely be during the weekend (late Sat into Sun morning), so it may not...though if there is considerable damage (downed trees/power lines/flooding), expect Monday to be closed (and possibly other subsequent days)---depending on your location of course.

Goddamnit. Just got new roof put up on the house today. Although I am not really sure if that's a good or bad thing.

^^^^unless the eye comes near Raleigh and there are massive power outages NCSU won't cancel classes. It'd be stupid to. Last big hurricane to severely impact was (correct me if I'm wrong) Floyd. And NCSU didn't blink an eye for that one.
