Where do we go with the 9th pick?

I've read prior to the lottery last night that our front office thought a lot of Oubre, and he should be there.

Chad Ford also mentioned we may be looking to trade out of that spot for a veteran.

It would have to be a heck of a deal, but there is a considerable drop-off after that top 3 so I'd listen to everything at this point.

If we could trade down a little and take Devin Booker I'd be all over that. He's a stud and we need shooters worse than anything right now.

Unrelated to the draft, but I'd love to see us make a run at Deandre Jordan this offseason too. He's a future DPOY and could shore up that 5 spot for quite a few years to come.

I still don't trust Michael Jordan to run a basketball team, so I expect he'll trade the first rounder for Vince Carter.

we could always trade the pick to Red Star Belgrade for a second chance at Adam Morrison, I hear he was comrade of the year in 2012

Maybe sometime in the next few years, Cho will have another Kevin Durant fall into his lap, so he can regain his reputation as a good GM...

I don't get why people are so down on Cho.

He's been incrementally improving this roster, and it everyone knows you don't get decent free agents until you have guys already in place. Outside of Hairston, I think he's had decent picks for the spots we were in the draft.

At least he has a past track record of success unlike the rest of Jordan's cronies who were pulling the strings previously.

I don't think he's a terrible GM, I just think he's vastly overrated. All his success in OKC hinged on the Blazers botching their #1 pick with Oden. And while Westbrook and Ibaka were good picks by him, they couldn't even make the playoffs this year without KD. Yet Cho gets labeled as some genius GM because he made the same #2 overall pick that any of the other 28 GMs in the league outside of Portland would've made.

I'm so glad Lance is gone. Teammates didn't like him on top of being a bad player who can't shoot a lick.

Anyway, Bonnell tweeted this last night re: the draft

Quote :
"Ten days out I'd say @hornets use 9th pick on Booker, Johnson, Kaminsky or Dekker. (No order implied, BTW)"

Has to be Booker or Johnson if either or both are available at 9. I think taking Kaminsky or WCS would be HUGE mistakes (especially Kaminsky) since we already have Zeller, Jefferson, Vonleh and (maybe) Biyombo. Not great players, except Jefferson when healthy, but the most glaring and obvious need for this team is perimeter scoring, particularly 3 point shooting. You can't win in today's NBA without the ability to shoot the 3. If they draft Kaminsky, I will shit my pants and throw it at the nearest pedestrian that I see

Taking WCS wouldn't be a huge mistake at all. Bimbo and old Al will be gone after this season and 7 footers that can switch on pick and rolls don't come around often. I'd be just fine with that pick.

My hope is Booker though. I think people don't understand what he's fully capable of because he had to share minutes and shots with so many other great players. In this instance being on a loaded team might have actually hurt his stock. The guy's shot is pure though, and as he develops his grown man body the defense will pick up. Pencil him in as a starting 2 for a long time right out of the gate.

this team has needs at SG, PF and C. Al and Biyombo are gone after this season. Theres not a SG on this roster that should be starting in the league. Zeller is a nice player to bring off the bench for 10-15 minutes on a playoff roster. Vonleh...who knows what he can be at this point. He was drafted as a project. Hopefully he makes a step up and secures a ton of minutes next season. I could see taking Booker or WCS and I'd be happy with either. I agree with the previous poster though in that I'm not sure about WCS and his injury. There was some rumors floating around(no idea where they came from) about his foot injury not being repaired properly. So who knows.

So I guess Cho/MJ are trying to win it all next year?

Otherwise, trading last year's lottery pick for a guy on the final year of his contact seems like pretty terrible decision making/talent evaluation.

[Edited on June 24, 2015 at 10:26 PM. Reason : Obviously, my opinion changes if they resign batum, but if they don't they threw away a lottery pick]

They aren't giving up on Vonleh. They are using his value to upgrade their roster.

They gave up on Lance (rightfully so).

I like it. Henderson isn't a starting two guard in this league and vonleh may never become anything of note. Draft wisely tomorrow and this could be a good team in a year or two

Sounds like the Hornets are finally serious about fixing their spacing woes. Batum and Lamb can shoot the ball. From what I've heard they've been trying to move Big Al, but nobody wants to give anything up for him. Maybe they can unload him tomorrow and draft WCS to take over in the middle.

I'll be really disappointed if they take Kaminsky. He has some skills, but he will be a big hole on defense. I can't see him as a starter on a contending team and they already have a stretch 4/5 in Hawes.

We're a better team now than we were yesterday. I like Batum trade and hopefully they can get him resigned.

Vonleh couldn't even beat out Maxiell for playing time last year as bad as we were, so he's got a real long way to go before becoming a relied upon contributor night in and night out. If you're going to trade him, at least they did when he still had some real value.

You know Kemba's jazzed about getting to play with Lamb again, and he also helps that 3 point shooting moving forward. If they can hit a homerun tonight, we could be a decent team pretty quickly.

Woj just tweeted that we traded Barnes to the Grizz for Ridnour's non-guaranteed deal and will waive him. I guess that Lamb deal fell apart...
