Phil is by far my favorite NC State athlete of all-time. Holt is still the most dominate player I've ever seen at Carter-Finley, though.

south alabama center joseph scelfo is transferring to state. immediately eligible. was a first team all-sun belt center last year. sounds like a good pick up

Yeah high level talent goingout and low level talent coming in are both worrisome for a fan with goals beyond mediocrity.

Plus this guy plays for one year and then we are back to no experience.

Getting Scelfo is actually great. It means we can leave Adams at OG where he belongs. It gives us a veteran and adds another piece to our OL.

What is there to really complain about?

TT in Raleigh 2022, @ TT in 2027

UConn in Raleigh 2022, @ UConn in 2023

@Vandy in 2026, Vandy in Raleigh in 2028

holy shit that's a long ways away

new rules make at least 1 OOC game vs P5 mandatory now. Notre Dame fills that requirement this season.

Theres no advantage to playing a difficult schedule. What we had last season is deal.

^i do agree. as a fan, it's boring and shitty to get Troy and EKU at home (and then travel to ODU and USA) like last year. but if you're a middling team like us then your goal is to be bowl eligible...and we did that last year. it's fun to play nationally relevant teams OOC. but look at UVa in recent years...they play a brutal OOC schedule and stumble to a 4-8 record, or whatever. no sense in playing prime time games against really good teams and getting whooped. of course, there is a middle ground that is ideal...2 cupcakes, 1 team like ECU or somebody, and a P5 opponent. and it looks like we're heading that direction.

Also, the pollsters are going to forget about the early season ooc games and conference games will be fresh on their minds. You can essentially gain credibility by letting your conference opponents rack up quality ooc wins, and fatigue themselves. Then, when you win your conference games, the narrative is "nc state just beat unc who we know is good because they beat south carolina and michigan back at the start of the season" or something like that

I like upping the name recognition of the OOC schools on our FB schedule, but not really playing any power houses. Unless our FB program makes a dramatic upswing in the coming years, there's literally no upside to scheduling a team like LSU other than for the $.

Its not like the old days where we only had 1 good conference game each year. The ACC has reached a point where we will have 2 or 3 good tams to play each year. We played 3 top 10 conference opponents last year. Its not SEC hard but its definitely challenging. We just need to avoid injuries and losses against OOC opponents schedule cupcakes or power cupcakes. Thats basically what the entire SEC does.

non-playoff bowl games are pretty pointless too, though.

I mean a few of them are good. We haven't been in a good bowl since Rivers' junior year.

The thing is, those 3 teams might all be complete trash in 6-8 years when we actually play them. Plus, we've schedule good teams in the past, they just buyout of our games with them.

At least one of those games we just scheduled won't happen because of a buyout.

certainly possible that those games may get bought out. but the rule that teams must play at least 1 P5 OOC opponent probably decreases the odds of that happening since that rule wasn't in place in the past when other teams bought out games.

Myers will wear commemorative RW patch which is a "special honor"

not sure when this was announced, but it looks like they know who our starter is.

They gave Meyers #16 last year because they thought they saw something special in him and that he was a leader.

With Chubb wearing #9 and Meyers wearing #16, they'll both have the commemorative patches since both numbers are "honored".

Looks like QB Ryan Finley from Boise State is going to transfer in and compete for the starting job. He will be a graduate transfer and be eligible to play in the fall. I'm not sure that he will become the sure thing starter, but he will have a good handle on Drink's offense.

Just been rumors for a while and his twitter follows. I can't think of any other reason for a QB at a different school to all of the sudden follow 6 admin positions from a different school.

yeah. i'm all for "let's get as many good players as possible and let 'em compete" but this isn't exactly reassuring...i, too, was somewhat excited about McLendon or Myers.

then again, a quick glance at thewolfpacker revealed no mention of this guy that i saw. and they usually seem to be on top of stuff.

I mean if you have unused scholarships, grad transfers are basically free gambles. More comfortable since this is OCs old qb, maybe low hanging fruit

He was never going to start here or even be a solid back-up. He'll move on to a smaller program and probably earn some PT.

Doubt the coaches were too upset about this one, just frees up a scholarship.
