humans have no business putting out music as great as he just did

2015 was my top year in a while so I'm interested to see where 2016 ends up.

But starting off with the incredible new Bowie record certainly is a great sign.

Man, I sure am glad I got a good attentive listen in to the new Bowie before it became his Requiem.

I remember thinking all Sunday morning... Wow, how does this guy keep going! Then...

I feel like my earlier post in this thread gets at that same point

legitimately talked myself out of listening to him before bed Sunday night because I knew I would want to stay up through the whole album

Super digging the Julia Brown - An Abundance of Strawberries album (technically a re-release). Gorgeous and textural.

The new Magic Gang EP is decent. Less Weezer melodies this time around and they're better off for it.

Anderson Paak is my hip-hop obsession of the week.

And I've also given Petal's Shame a few spins this week. Missed it in late 2015.

^ haven't checked that one out yet but assumed that was gonna be the case

based on some clips from an NPR interview im assuming the new andrew bird might have a few cool things here and there but will probably be kinda meh. hopefully I'll be proven wrong and still can't wait to see him live anyway

yeah, the diiv record is enjoyable but also seems a little forgettable and overlong. I still enjoy it though. It's good to keep on in the background.

I haven't been upset by a critic's score since the video game Vanquish. I truly thought that was the pinnacle of 3D shooters.

3 digs this past week:

Jesu / Sun Kil Moon collaboration: really enjoy both groups separately so I was really intrigued to hear this odd mashup. I really, really dig it.

Pinegrove - Cardinal: This has been my surprise record of the year. Never checked them out before but this record has gotten constant play the past week. Indie rock with a bit of twang. Just good songwriting.

Mimusiku - The Thrill of Living: More emo-revival. Nothing really that new here but I enjoy the record all the same. Promise Ring, American Football, Texas is the Reason, even super early Get Up Kids at times.

latest Explosions in the Sky track was a grower for me.

I'm late to the party with Kauan's Sorni Nai, but that's a beast of a post rock record from 2015.

The School of Seven Bells record has gotten a few spins this week. It has some very catchy and enjoyable tracks, but I don't think it is as solid as some of the reviews led me to believe.

Also, I'm still really enjoying The Black Queen's Fever Daydream. It's been a good nighttime jam lately.

first half of the new Nada Surf album is pretty enjoyable. Seems to kind of trail off after that. But I had no real expectations placed on a 2016 album from them. Planning to see them in May still with some friends.

New Explosions in the Sky is very enjoyable. I need to listen again when I can be more focused.

Weezer's White album was a bit of a let down my first listen-through. However, after listening again some of the tracks are growing on me. Not on the same level as the semi return to form EWBAITE, but it's probably in the group with Green and Maladroit. We'll see after a few more spins.

I think I might like The White Album better than EWBAITE. Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori and LA Girlz (silly titles aside) are so so good. Either way I'm pleased because I never thought I'd have more than 2 Weezer albums that I regularly listened to but with these last 2 now there are 4. They still have a knack for awful singles, though. Back to the Shack was by far the worst song on the last album and Thank God for Girls is by far the worst song on this one.

This Explosions album is probably my favorite they have put out. Maybe it is just the newness and I can't describe it but it feels more raw than some of their other stuff. I could listen to it over and over.

^^^ Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori and LA Girlz are indeed solid tracks. Couldn't get enough of them this weekend in between the new EITS, Frankie Cosmos, and Taocat

^^ I found it to be much better when I had my nice headphones on and I wasn't really doing anything else. The other times I enjoyed it but not using it as background noise made a difference. Like I said, could just be that it's new but it feels different than their last couple and I prefer the direction it's going. I'm not musically literate enough to explain more.

I don't care how uncool they might be in certain circles, the new deftones album is good. They've been one of the most consistently enjoyable bands in my entire history of being music-obsessed. And to top it off, their set a few weeks ago was probably the best set I've seen from them yet.

they're a weird bird. I know a lot of people that turn their nose up to them but then I guess I do have just as many friends who are also music snobs (or metal snobs in particular) who still totally respect them. But yeah, I definitely know plenty of people that still lump them into the who nu-metal blanket and as such avoid them.

That being said, this new album is more of a grower than their last two. Bringing me back to the days of S/T and Saturday Night Wrist which were both growers for me. Lots of melody and good guitar layering here. The Jerry Cantrell guest spot was well-used even though I had a hard time envisioning it when they first mentioned it last year.
