"Chip Baskets, the sad clown that Galifianakis plays in FX’s Baskets, which premieres Thursday, is also myopically self-interested. Co-created with Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel, Baskets begins as Chip bombs out of an elite French clown school and heads back to his hometown of Bakersfield, California, broke. He has a green-card wife who doesn't love him and a passion to continue working as a highbrow clown named Renoir. But the only work Chip can find is at the local rodeo, where he attempts the sophisticated clowning he’s not very good at, even though the crowd just wants to see him get stomped by the bulls."

I've been seeing the ads for this on FX. Looks funny. Will give it a shot.

DVR set. I love the clip of the girl honking the horn and Zach throwing his drink at the car. It's not in the official trailer, but I've seen it in promos.

Thought it was a satire of shows like Louie. Saw Louie was a writer. I love Louie.

Zach's reaction when the juggalo guy tells him his age, best moment so far. Agree Louie Anderson is on his way to a Golden Globe for his performance, or at least a People's Choice Award. Love Zach so I gave it a shot, but don't think I'll be sticking with this one. Maybe it's bc I'm so uber successful in my own personal life now, but there's just something depressing about watching fake shows about unsuccessful people.

a lot of it actually is pretty funny, but if you're not into absurdist/surrealist humor, this isn't the show for you. and i think if you're just looking for laughs then you're missing a lot.

weird. the third episode is where it starts to pick up, and it's been very good ever since.

I've always considered myself someone that enjoys all forms of humor, but I'm just not seeing it here.

I feel like Baskets is trying too hard to act pathetic, and that woman is awkward as hell.

Louie Anderson is great, but that's about all the accolades I have for what I've seen; I stopped watching after 3 episodes.

It really got better. I think the last episode was the best. It is more serious than I think was advertised, but that isn't a bad thing.

I think I like this show better than Louis' show.

Louis also has a drama he's hocking from his website too.

It is the bit, but it is also a bit of Martha in real life. She has never been an actress. She never took any lessons (which is pretty obvious), and that is exactly the way Zach wanted it.

what's funny (and also sad) is that she's this awkward dope who chip treats as his punching bag for taking out all of his anger and frustration due to his failures. it's the dynamic between their characters that's funny. it's not "hey here's an awkward lady. laugh."

and anyway, the show has moved above and beyond just being a comedy, so to criticize it for not being funny at this point is dumb.

the music also started getting better and added a lot to the more poignant scenes. it's all just really well done right now and I hope the rest of the season maintains the same level of quality.

the absurdity behind it apparently isn't

all you had to say was that she's just awkward, so excuse me for assuming you didn't have a firm grasp of what's going on. what were you even expecting from people known for making oddball comedy?

i never would've guessed when this show started that it would end up striking so many emotional chords. i understand it's not for everybody, but i hate how few people are talking about it.

I'd seen that earlier. Is his stand-up any good? I wasn't a big fan of him before this show (although he's been pretty awesome in it), I seem to remember seeing some of his stand-up and family feud and not thinking it was very funny.

He's a clean comic. It's family stuff. It's funny, but not the least bit edgy. He's a great storyteller. Make of that what you will.
