Well you have to give the guy credit, that tweet gained him a ton of free press. For better or worse, he does know how to maintain the center of attention.

I like this guy more and more. He's terrific! A blonde Rupert Murdoch!
And I think it is really over now, if you think about who's a strong leader between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump.

^^ the semi-brilliant thing about it was how the tweet wasn't actually pandering to Hispanics (it probably offended 99% of them), it was actually pandering to whites who HATE illegal immigrants, but are OK with Hispanics that are legally doing menial jobs they won't do themselves. 10/10 troll job.

donald trump wants to create hyper inflation by just printing more money to pay off debt. either that, or cause a global financial crisis by having us debt negotiated down like someone fining for bankruptcy.

bad news: my lunch is gonna cost me $1500

good news: I'll pay off my house in under a year

Paul Ryan says he found equal ground with Trump on the Supreme Court, pro-lif and the Constitution (whatever that means).

Bernie is pro-life and wants to run the new justice nomination through the Heritage Foundation now?

Yeah, what the country definitely needs is a politician who is going to be dead (of old age) in 10 years running the country.

If the country doesn't need old politicians, does it need old voters? If your point is that old people that are going to die and therefore don't have as much skin in the game - i.e. they're just getting in a spiteful "fuck you" on their way out the door - it seems like that applies to voters just as well.

We had a young guy run, several of them actually. Rubio, Cruz, Jindal. Out of those, Rubio to me was the best option, but that is ancient history now.

^^no, it doesn't apply to voters because they won't be the ones actually running things, the appointed official will be.

The old politicians won't be running things either when they're dead. If they can get the support, they can pass whatever draconian laws they want before dying without actually dealing with the consequences.

Of course, you could say this applies to all politicians and you'd be right. Politicians are never held directly responsible for the damage they cause. The worst case scenario for a politician is that they don't get re-elected. I can't take a politician to court for implementing a terrible, wasteful policy. The politician walks away, says "well, we had to do something - how was I supposed to know that a million people would die", no one bats an eye, and then we elect someone else to try to unfuck the situation.

Legislation is taken to court all the time. Like literally almost every time something meaningful is passed. Often administration officials (whomever is directly responsible for implementing the legislation) are named as defendants. What more do you want exactly? The ability to throw legislators in jail if they don't agree with your ideology?

I'm not sure what my point was. And considering I supported/support Ron Paul (who is 80 and would have been 76 had he won in 2012), my point about age cracked.

Maybe it's about these are politicians/celebrities from the 90's.

And it's time for a change.

And Bernie is a socialist.

Seriously? Boomers are easily one of the most conservative generations we've had in the modern era IMO. By the time they became the largest voting bloc, they proceeded to elect Reagan and the Bushes (great band name btw), democrats have only mustered "republican-lite" policies in that time frame ala Clinton. They've completely refused to invest anything back into the country, etc etc. They're the me generation and I think that is fully reflected in their me first attitudes toward politics.

^^Your statement about the conservatism of boomers only relates them and ranks them with other generations. What I'm saying is that all generations born in the 20th century have been quite progressive, overall. Some more than others, but when you zoom out and look at the entire political spectrum, all 20th century generations are clustered in one spot.

Just because they're right of Bernie Sanders doesn't make them a conservative. These are relative terms.

Yea you're right. Everyone seems progressive compared to our slave owning, woman beating, genocidal forefathers. I just take it as a given that most modern conservatives don't want to regress us back in time quite that far.

you don't get to pick and choose what ideas where conservative or progressive for a given generation. The people belonging to that generation get to pick them. Owning slaves, not letting women vote, and killing natives were all conservative ideas for their given time period.

And you don't get to equate opposition of progressive social and economic policy with support of slavery and beating women.

Exactly, that's why I don't compare "progressive" boomers to "conservative" slave owners from 200 years ago. You have to compare generations to those that are in a similar era. Otherwise you are just pointing out the trend of natural human progress

Only change is natural, progress is always intentional. Whether progress "feels" natural is highly dependent on culture and context.
