^^I'd love to know more about it if anybody has any expertise.

But I've always assumed it was mainly a glycogen thingy from carbohydrates.

I don't exercise regularly, but in the past, I routinely had days where I'd be fatigued right away. Workouts took forever, and I didn't really accomplish much. It was embarrassing to me, but it is good for trimming down.

If you are plateauing after two weeks you're doing something really wrong.

Probably undereating by a lot. Possibly not enough sleep or recovery time between workouts. Make sure you're getting 1 g of protein per lb of bodyweight

I like my fitness pal

Down to 189. Probably the first time I've broken into the 180's in about 9 years but I have far more muscle now. I'd like to hit 179 one day but it's not a priority.

MyFitnessPal
LoseIt
FitBit

I've used all 3 to track and the Premium version of LoseIt is my favorite. I'm currently using the Fitbit app to track everything because I have a Charge HR. I've lost 90 pounds and did most of it with the Lose It app.

I use the fitbit app with my charge hr and aria scale. I think it has the best interface but I wish it had macro tracking. It would take very little effort on their part to add it and it's been asked for on the fitbit community forums for a long time now.

MyFitnessPal is ok, has macro tracking on premium, and links to fitbit but I'm not trying to pay a montly fee

My wife just got a Gear S2, and that kinda locks you in to using S-health, which is OK, but for some stupid reason, S-health doesn't play nice with myfitness pal, so we're trying to find a bridge between the two, because the calorie counter for myfitnesspal is a lot better than S-health's. The withings software might work, so I think we're looking at that now.

6 Month Update

Quote :
"Goals:

-Bench 315 by the start of summer (at 260 now) - got to 295 but have gone down to 260 again since cutting

-Get below 10% body fat by Memorial Weekend and maintain-ish til Labor Day Weekend - didn't happen. got new job and had a month off in between where I just vacationed and ate. Currently down from 200 (bulk) to 187 at about 15.5% body fat. Should be in good shape to get under 180 (and 10%) by the end of July.

-Run a 10k by the end of the year and get to where 5k is comfortable so I can join some run clubs I've been running some and can still do a mile or two pretty comfortably. Will work on this more in the fall when it's cooler out

-Join the 1000lb club by the end of the year (1000 lbs combined on Bench, Squat, Deadlift - currently at 260/250/300) getting pretty close. if I count my PR and high for the year (March) for bench @295 I'm really close. I got my squat up to 295 and my deadlift up to 395, but my bench has gone down to 250-260 since I started cutting. Not sure I'll hit my one year mark (July 6th) at 1000 but I'm gonna try to get 260b/320s/420d in a single session. might make a video when I attempt

-Get up to 180+ lbs lean by the end of the year. - not going to happen and honestly don't want it to. that would be 198 pounds at 5'10" - not trying to be that big. not sure why I had this number in my mind

^how many more do you have to go?

I'm down to 185 today (-15lbs). It's great having the end in sight at least. I can also fit in clothes that I haven't been able to in months, which is nice.

My maxes are down significantly, but my net gains for a year's worth of work (cut/bulk/cut) are definitely good. Will not do a dirty bulk ever again - slow, controlled, clean bulks are the way to go.

Yeah man dirty bulks are a terrible idea unless you are just skinny as fuck. Way better to get lean and bulk up until 15% or so and lean out again.

Well, when I started, I weighed in at about 189 after running (losing about 1-2.5 lbs of water weight).

I just weighed in today at 158.8. My BMI is still a little too high though, so I'm going to keep going until I get down to about maybe 18%, 15 if that is attainable, then I'll focus on bulk.

I had two goals at New Years...30 straight pull-ups and sub 20 minute 5k.

I'm at 28 pull-ups (started at 23) and just ran a 6:40 mile. Obviously the 6:40 mile doesn't mean I could do it two more times...but I've been doing slow three mile runs with the dogs for a few months, so it's good to know that I can get to that speed if I want to. I also normally run myself lame when it comes to race time...so I think I can get there.

28 straight dead hang pull-ups is impressive, nice work. I just started back doing regular pull-ups after a few month period of having to store something under my pull-up bar and I'm working back up to 10 straight pull-ups. I can definitely tell the pull-ups are easier after having lost around ten pounds.

Two days ago was exactly a year from when I started.

Weigh 187 right now at about 15% body fat.

1-rep PRs:

Bench (worked on all year) 135 --> 295
Squat (worked on since April) 180 --> 295
Deadlift (worked on since November) 225 --> 415

Pretty sure I can do closer to 325 squat but haven't maxed in a while.

I've gotta say though I've completely destroyed my right (non-dominant) arm between power lifting and rock climbing. I think I went up way too fast since I didn't have a squat rack in my old work gym so I just did upper body. I've been getting a ton of pain in my elbow/shoulder so I've had to completely lay off upper body stuff for the past month or so and go easy climbing. The last time I benched I could only do 225 a few times so I'm nowhere close to the 295 I hit in April. I could maybe get 240 at best.

I'm going to focus on high rep, low weight and just try to tone for a couple of months and let my arm heal. Also going to start running more to try to meet those goals and get my squat up to a respectable number.

^ Great if you change your diet in conjunction. During my CFit days - I saw plenty of ppl maintain their exact body composition for the entire two years or so I was there, both healthy and unhealthy body types.

Losing weight is all about eating less calories than you burn. Crossfit helps burn calories but if your diet is in excess of the calories you burn throughout the day then you won't lose weight. There is nothing magical about one workout routine compared to others in this regard, all burn calories, some more than others and some are easier to do in a caloric deficit. I would recommend lifting weights regardless though because it helps maintain muscle which you want to keep.

Definitely no magic fix for everyone - I've found weight training coupled with my cardio and eating right to be what works for me. It's a lot to adjust but finding that right balance is the best way.

PR'd on an Olympic Tri by 26 minutes today... Eventually I'm going to stop dropping this much time between races but I'm enjoying it while it lasts

LOL, I too saw people with the same body comp for several years. It's because most recreational CFers were doing Paleo wrong, when Paleo was popular. And by that I mean, they were probably eating chicken wings, bacon, and coconut macaroons with agave nectar in excess.

I don't think they encourage Paleo as much as they did a few years ago anymore. I think the trend is "flexible dieting" / IIFYM, much more sustainable and geared towards performance base.

Starting p90x today and going to try to actually stick to it. Not so much on the diet side though, I'm pretty lean already.

Any supplements I should be taking?

I've lost about 35 lbs since April by doing nothing but running and dieting, and by dieting I mean mostly portion control. I was a horrible, horrible eater (Bojangles type stuff for lunch) and that got me up to 189. Just my cutting out fried and 95% of my starches, and just watching my portions, I've managed to get down below 155. The lbs are coming off much slower now, but almost where I want to be before I start trying to bulk up a little.

I've tried hitting the gym to keep from shrinking altogether, and that just isn't working, as my calorie deficit is a little too low for muscle building right now, and I'm ok with that. I still have a little layer of fat over my stomach I'm trying to burn off.

And I'm running about 15 miles/week, with about a 8:45/mile avg pace.

It's all about what you eat.

^^ I wouldn't do p90x if you're lean...it's more of a cutting program.

If you're familiar with weights and want to put on some muscle or mix up your program try body beast instead.

^that's actually only 700 calories. by comparison a Jersey Mike's regular club sub is 900. A chipotle burrito is in the same neighborhood.

if you're burning 3k calories a day just at a base level you'd have to eat 19,500 calories to put on 3 pounds in a weekend.

That's almost 28 of those Taco Bell things, or 10.3 pounds of carrot cake

haha it's just water weight. watch the scale the next few days and/or go for a decent run and it'll pretty much all go away.

Well shit I expected more than 700 calories.

I was backpacking last weekend and Saturday night I was trying to jam as many calories in my dinner as I could. My base was a beef stroganoff meal which only has 520 calories. I added two full slices of naan (400 calories each), half a dried sausage, and a third of a block of cheese. I bet I barely hit 2,000 calories in that one meal albeit I had to carry it all. I realize why people who hike the AT look like skeletons by the end. The quantity of food you have to eat to even maintain is ridiculous if you're burning 5,000-6,000 calories a day during the activity alone.

I've found bringing olive oil, peanut butter (powdered), and other foods super dense in calories and fat help but I still end up with a huge deficit each day. I carried a 64oz growler of IPA in the first night. That helped a bit.

Taco Bell is surprisingly lower calorie than you would think. It's really one of the better fast food options if you are looking to keep calories lower, especially if you order off the healthier menu that doesn't have all the cheese.

So I'm meeting up with a chick from high school next week. She's a pretty hot smokes how has done some modeling so she's really thin and prefers thin guys.

I'm thin right now with slight bodyfat.,.. if i just do push-ups and pull ups every day and a little running with ab work i should be able to pull a lot of water into my muscle bellies and I can carb up right before I meet her and chug water.

We're going to the marilyn manson concert so I want it to be romantic as possible so she falls in love because her dad just died aND she inherited millions.

What should my diet be like this week? Just super high protein and fish oil and no carbs right? I've got approximately 10 days for maximum beach body alteration...

I want to look nice and lean. I'll be taking full yohimbine dosage to improve my vascularity and dick hardness. I already fucked her like 13 years ago but I don't think she will fuck me just for old times sake I need to look good

RIP GIRLFRIEND! She could be my meal ticket I wanna do this right
